What are the properties in welcomehead file?
Regular explorer wont work. Use resco or total commander.
Make sure both files got same name .

Just to be sure, you're overwriting welcomehead.192.png, right?

Try total commander, and if that doesn't work, soft-reset before trying again.

Here you go guys. Not my original image, simply made it correct dimensions for a splash screen.

Original image is from www.ak3d.de [link warning: extremely flash heavy]

Those are not the full dimensions. Plus you should use another program to resize the image.

The dimensions must by 480x640 [or 640x640 for landcape too] if you want a high-res image.

Ah, my bad. Those were the correct dimensions for my splash screen, but not for the touch pro.

Yup, that'd be perfect for QVGA, but you want as high of a quality as possible on your TP =]

Are you saying I need to remove the string and ust leave the HTCAnimation with nothing in it but "Default"?

BTW, my ROMs do not include any Startup Splash Animations. In my opinion they just make the boot process slower so I removed them. If you want them you're gonna have to search around for a cab that installs the splash animations.
