Anyone having delayed text message issues?

I'm not talking about the ones where they're a few minutes apart, I'm talking more like 20-30, sometimes and hour off, I get them all at once, or I get them scattered out of order. Different people each time. I've been back and forth with Sprint about this and I'm getting no where with them. Any ideas from the great minds here? I text more then I talk most of the time, so it's becoming an issue anymore. I've been having slight issue since I've got the phone, but it's seeming to get worse. No, I'm not roaming when this happens. When I do roam it seems to get my texts to me at least in order. Any insight will be appreiciated.

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

Sprint has been "upgrading" the text system.
At least that's what I was told when I asked while at Sprint last week.

Tonight I sent a few that was sent and received totally out of order.
Made for a confusing conversation. Odd thing is the time stamps are accurate.

A pictures mail I sent a couple weeks ago took three days and I had a few that took 5 hours.

Maybe we should all call Sprint and complain.

No issues with me, but admittedly I only have a few txt conversations per day. I wonder if has to do with location. I am in Vegas.

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

I've been wondering what's been going on.

I get 'pages' from work as text messages - which usually get split into 2 messages, I assume due to the length. Recently I started getting the 2nd part of the message before the first part comes through.

Most recently, one text message was sent to me - it got split into 2 messages, and I got the 2nd message (with the end of the text) a full 10 minutes before the 1st message. The issue here is that these are messages that are alerting me to a problem at work which needs immediate attention - getting part of the information is not helpful.

I have had problems as well. Mostly going between carriers though. Service has been semi-close to normal if you are txt'ing to another sprint phone.

It is very annoying though.

I was in the Sprint store today, after mentioning the texting issue they told me they're waiting on a software update from HTC.. What do you guys think? In a way I feel this to be a BS line to get me off ttheir backs for the moment. A place blame here type of deal.

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

This seems to be happening with random Sprint customers because both my brother and I have had this problem. I've already called Sprint to ask what the deal was but got no answer.

I think, sadly, we'll just have to live with it for now.

A guy I work with was recently let out of his Sprint contract with no ETF because of these texting issues. This guy sends thousands of text messages a month (a lot are work related & rather important) & almost NEVER talks on his phone.

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

How often are you guys doing a soft reset?

I experienced this problem a while ago and not so much anymore. I talked with Sprint and they encouraged me to do a soft reset every now and again because messages can be backlogged on the network and a soft reset usually minimizes this issue.

I do still receive messages out of order when it gets split. Not sure what the deal with that is but I rarely see the delay anymore. Sometimes it would be a few hours, sometimes a day or two before my text was received. There have been a few times when it took a day for me to receive.

I'd suggest doing a soft reset every night and see if that helps.

I say texting is related to network issue, I have no prob however my friend was getting her texts hours late coming from the West to East..

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

I work in a service center in Central Florida, and we were notified that Sprint was upgrading their systems, and one of the upgrades took longer than the window they had left open. It created a 6 hour backlog on data services as of yesterday, and i'm not sure how long before that...I have had a few texts arrive late, for example, 10 hours late...And my picture mail has been trying to send this one picture for a week to my email address, but it keeps saying "sending failed".

This may be part of the issue. Just adding my 2 cents...

EDIT: Also, I found that deleting your "sent" messages and some of your old ones do help...at least they did for me.

There are a lot of people having this issue. There are a couple threads with this problem. I had one open a month ago about it. It seems that people that are in the "good" area of the coverage map are struggling with this issue. I upgraded to the Telus radio and it has helped significantly, but when I am at home, I still have this problem. Sprint tried to get me to buy an airave. I haven't pressed to try to get one for free yet because I got my TP for absolutely free. But, if it continues, I will definitely be trying for a free airave. I do a TON of texting (probably 4-5000 a month) and rely on it.

I been having this problem lately and it seems to be getting worse... It hasn't bothered me much until tonight when I was walking home and some creepy *** old guy was following me home and my friend's texts to see if I was okay while I was walking never got to me until cops showed up at my door wondering if I was alright... This is NOT good. Total BS, texting is no joke and this **** needs to get fixed.

I had this issue last night and am not sure if its network issue or what. Then again i did change some settings on my TP yesterday but even before i changed them i was getting messages timestamped BEFORE i made the settings changes. I recently went from the stock radio to the leaked 1.11 radio and i also went fro hybrid to evdo only and am on Sprint only (no roaming) Do you think they are the changes or phone or network issue? I have reverted tothe orginal settings and see

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

My GF has been having these issues since November and she is using a Samsung Rant. She is on my account. I am not having any issues at all. We have been calling Sprint over and over about the problem. They try something new every time and it fixes it for two or three days but the problem comes back. Sprint has already swapped the phone out so we know it's not the phone and we know it's not the account in general since I am not having any problems. It's either the profile for that number or something else. All you can do is to keep bugging Sprint about it. The problem has to get fixed eventually.

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

Off topic a bit, I signed up with Sprint about the second year in business. After about two years my 3 phone stopped getting messages VM, and phone would only ring once and call would be gone. About a month latter I started getting VM from the month before, mind you I would check all day long. Being in a service business this was killing me. After four months of this I got the truth from a lady in support that it was nationwide and no hope for a fix. I was told for all that time it was my phones so I took them to service center and they were fine. So maybe the text will be fixed in the next four months, at least you are getting them in same day.

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

Is there anyway to get the timestamp on the text messages to be the correct time if you're in roaming? When I get txts while roaming, they are time stamped like, three hours earlier...so, instead of the txt showing up at the top of my messages when I click on the text message icon in TouchFlo, I have to click on all messages, then scroll through them all to see the one that's bolded. My old Sprint phone didn't have this problem. Roaming or in Sprint service, the texts always had the time stamp the same as the time on my phone.

Also, my wife sent me a txt today, and when I got it, I responded to her. She txted back, and was like, "I sent that an hour ago." So, it was weird...her first txt took an hour to get to me...but then we txted back and forth just fine. Weird.

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

Good luck all with arguiing whos at fault. I complain to sprint, they say it's verizon, I complain to verizon and they say it's sprint. Quite frankly I'm fed up with sprints inability to fix problems. I built 10 SMS servers at work for automated billing and customer related notifications as well as sms triggers on our devices in the field. The problem with sprint is backlog or poor code. Bottom line. My verizon to T-Mobile account gets 4 sms messages seconds apart, ATT to verizon milliseconds apart, sprint to all carriers sometimes minutes, sometimes hours or days.

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

Sometimes I get them on time, most of the time - in my apartment - they never show up.

I miss a LARGE percentage of calls in my apartment, texts come in late (more like, not at all) voicemail indicators never show up either. I had a close friend of mine trying to get a hold of me the other night. Sent her a text at 1:17 or so in the AM, she texted me right back. At about 1:45 she tried calling, twice... neither of which rang for me. On the second call, she left a voicemail. She said she kept trying to call every 15-20 minutes or so till about 4am, and none of them ever got to me. At 5:50 in the morning or so, my voicemail alert finally came through and woke me up. When I called it to check it, I got 12-15 texts while the call to voicemail was active, all dated through the night.

I don't have poor service at my apartment. With the telus radio, it's easily 4-5 bars out of 7. My Helio Ocean (sprint network as well) got 4/5 or 5/5 bars in the same locations and it had notoriously bad cell reception. My TP on the sprint radio got 1-2 bars if I was lucky. All VZW users have nearly perfect service there too.

There really isn't an excuse for this, and it's extremely frustrating because there are people who need to get in touch with me and I keep having to call my voicemail every 30 minutes or so to check if there are any texts that haven't been pushed to me. I've learned that after about 18 seconds in voicemail, when the lady says "To indicate your choice..." MOST waiting texts will then arrive.

All of my friends complain about how they can't get a hold of me because I don't answer. It's not that I'm not answering, it's that the damn phone rarely rings. It hits these points where it just totally stops receiving any 1xRTT data (calls/texts) and it stays that way till it times out or who knows what else hapens.

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

Same problem but I found and answer (for me at least). I was having problems where every 10-15 text messages or so it would take 20, 30, or even an hour to get a text message but it would show a timestamp saying I should have received it much earlier. I went to my local sprint store and they told me it is an issue with the phone after the battery level drops below 60%. They plugged in my phone and did a radio update and it has helped a lot... He told me they have a ROM update on the way and they would call me when it is out and that it should fully fix the problem. So they are both aware of a problem and working on a fix. I also ran into another person with the Touch Pro having the same problem and he was also told the same thing.

That would be nice, but my most recent issued happened while the phone was at 100% battery, sitting on the charger.

Their "radio update" is likely to the latest version of the Sprint radio as posted here in the radio thread:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=46616

If your version is newer than the best sprint one there you should consider getting in contact with one of the people able to dump the radio and help the community and get us a new version of the radio available.

Also, I can't go to a Sprint store. Sprint around here is privately owned. They don't even have the diamond yet, and say the Pro will never be available.

Wonderful but it's BS. I am using a the TP and I have not had a single issue. My GF is on a Samsung Rant and has this problem constantly.

I am not doubting that there might be a potential problem with the TP and battery level (not seen this either), but that would be a totally seperate issue. The late texting is something entirely unrelated to a specific phone. It's Sprint's service/servers/profiles that are at fault here.

Ahhh! I'm SO PISSED! I called Sprint, talked to the account services dept, this has been going on for awhile now, they switched me to advanced tech support that said they are only having internet issues in my area, then the ***** put me on hold and disconnected me!!!!! Wish I would have gotten her name because she was the rudest person I've spoken to in my life. Might call the escalation dept because they can see everyone that ever accessed my account, because I want to file a report on her.

I was having issues 2 weeks ago, but everything seems to be up and running. When it was delayed, the other phone showed the proper time stamp as well, which was strange.

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

I am pretty sure its a Sprint thing and not just the Touch Pro. I had the Motorola Q9C till December and I had the same problem from October till December especially after 5PM, I would get texts from a few girls I was talking to all jumbled up and out of order, minutes, hours, days late, also many repeat texts as well. Some of them got pretty mad at me thinking I just didn't care about them and left them hanging or them thinking I took 9 hours to respond and stuff. Some girls take real offense to that... well it got so bad i had to get a separate ATT prepaid text plan for my old iphone just so I could keep in touch with people. I text a lot (2k-3k/month)

I called Sprint everyday and they didn't do anything. They told me to go buy a new Q9C since I didn't have insurance or wait 2-3 weeks to get a replacement under warranty from Motorola. I told them that these texts were very very important to me and it was very annoying and also I couldn't part with my phone for 2-3 weeks. After hours on the phone and talking to retentions and esclatations again and again, they finally let me get the Touch Pro from best buy for $199 one month early ($150 off upgrade date was 1/09).

So far with the default Sprint radio as well as the Telus radio, I seem to get my texts minutes, at most an hour late. My friends all have Tmobile/ATT though, and my girl has ATT and no one has complained to me yet.

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

This is the response I got from them:

"Thank you for contacting Sprint. I will be happy to assist you regarding
your delayed text messages.

I have refreshed some settings in our network to help clear out the
delayed text messaging problem. I would like you to power cycle your
phone to help keep your phone refreshed. You can do this by turning the
phone off and removing the battery for 1 minute. After 1 minute insert
the battery back into the phone and turn the phone back on.

If you continue to get delayed messages then a network ticket will need
to be opened for you so that our technicians can research the cause of
the delay. In order to open this ticket I will need you to provide me
with a number that is being delayed and the name of the carrier the
number belongs to.

If you continue to have problems with delayed messages please respond to
this email and provide the requested information.

Thank you again for contacting Sprint. We appreciate your business."

I haven't noticed any visible improvment (when I send a text, it takes 30 seconds to a minute to return, where as it is seconds when I force roam on verizon network) yet, so far haven't had any 30min type delays. I'll report back if I notice a marked improvement.

I would say that doing a text return isn't the best way to test the lag. Try to find another phone. But still, I have never though of forcing roam for texts... Good idea, actually.

Will we incur extra data/txt charges?

bairice 01-27-2009 11:40 AM

Re: Anyone having delayed text message issues?

I'm not sure how other plans work, but my SERO plan covers unlimited roaming which includes 1X data and texts, so it's not really a problem for me. When I roam on verizon and text myself, I get my text back within seconds, it's quite amazing :)

After some experimentation, my texting lag is still about the same, hasn't gotten better or worse. Most of my texts come in a timely fashion, but I sent out a picmail a few days ago that was received 4 hours after I sent it..

I, too, am still having problems. New Telus radio gives me better reception in my house (which is the only place I have this problem most of the time) but still text problems. Sooooooo, annoying. I have been watching this thread in hopes of some sort of resolution. Anyone know if there is an XDA thread?
