Re: Shocking!!!

Come on guys it is 12volts at the most. If the case was grounded to the power the phone would be fried. It was just bad static electicity. It can zap you good.

A car battery's 12 volts, sure, but it's not the voltage that kills you, it's the amperage. Try hooking your ******* up to a pair of jumper cables. If you stick your finger in a cigarette lighter socket, it WILL give you a good jolt and can burn the skin before the fuse blows. Probably similar to what this guy experienced, I'd say the cigarette lighter's probably badly grounded and not just static electricity.

Just FYI...it takes at least 24v (usually 48v) to penetrate the skin to shock/kill you. And the charger is limited to approx 500ma which is not the same as hooking directly up to your battery with jumper cables.

Maybe it's an anti-theft feature? :dontknow:

Just figured that's what it must be since Sprint is including an Anti-theft feature on some of their phones. They call it "Crime Deterrent". :)

Re: Shocking!!!

Static won't provide a continuous "zap" as described by the author. Most likely the result of poor grounding on a cheap 12V car charger. The cigarette lighter is capable of providing several amps of current at 12V. If the car charger is poorly grounded, it's likely that you were shocked as you touched the metal frame of your vehicle (providing a much shorter path to ground than the phone's internal electronics.)

Chrome is also non-conductive, so that has nothing to do with it either. In short, a cheap car charger can be a bad idea. Try getting a better, higher-end one, see if that does the trick.

The case of the TP is plastic and plastic doesn’t conduct electricity... the shock couldn’t have had anything to do with the phone...

The charger is mini-usb, so it should only be at 4.75 volts and .5 amps. Somthing tells me its not the phone. It could be a cheap charger as suggested earlier. I would look at something being wrong with the truck.
