Noticed that Beam is turned on. Will this cause battery waste? - Page 3

If "Beam" uses Bluetooth, I find it very difficult to believe that even when I have Bluetooth turned off, "Beam" turns it back on periodically and polls for incoming files. Do you have specific evidence of this?

If, instead, turning Bluetooth off leaves it off, then the "Beam" setting is irrelevant to battery life as long as Bluetooth is off.

Well to each his own. Proof is not needed unless someone wants to argue with you, but me personally if thats your belief then I would just leave it on then. When its all said and done, turning it off definitely doesn't waste battery power and leaving it on is 50/50, so you choose.

well, since all of us are just making guesses, i'll make one too.(a very stupid one)
If the stock rom's comm manager doesn't mention beam, it won't waste the battery if its on alone.

(once again, a very stupid guess and i base this on nothing.)

Actually, you make an excellent point.

For legal reasons (e.g., airplane flight, explosive zones), a cell phone manufacturer must provide a very clear way to turn off all radio signals. The Touch Pro Comm Manager is clearly the place to do that. Lawsuits would arise if the Touch Pro were to ignore the Comm Manager's clearly marked Bluetooth setting in order to quietly look for incoming files, especially since the default Beam setting is "On."

I have seen no difference with beam receive turned on or off on any of my HTC Phones.
I've had a PPC6700 and a Mogul and I always left it turned on. There are other things on our phones that use FAR more power. Like the back light.

I can't for the life of me find the "beam" option on my TP. I remember I had it on my Mogul, but now I dont remember where I found it. Seems weird to have that option though especially considering there is no IR port, do you guys have custom/cooked ROMs or something? Where is it again?

Settings -> Connections -> Beam on the stock rom. Beam works through BT on the Touch Pro.

I definitely disagree with you guys, especially on the legal issue. I had a mogul and for sure if you left the beam on it drained the battery. I don't recall the beam setting on the mogul being in the comm manager, actually not that i don't remember, it wasn't there, its in the same place it is now. Like i said in my previous post, leaving it checked is 50/50 but for sure turing it off doesn't waste extra battery power.

Good suggestion to turn it off when not needed. The OP has my "thanks".

Regarding how beaming does work, it probably can work with any device/computer that can do BT beaming.

From the Sprint Touch Pro manual, page 71 (page 79 of the PDF document).
