Let me know what you think. Keep in mind you have GPS that should work fairly well. Is there really a point in having AGPS?

I have been able to get this GPS to work pretty consistently without the use of QuickGPS and I live in Brookly New York but I do see the advantage to having aGPS.

If it were something that could be shosen when starting up or if it could be used as a primer versus having to use HTC GPS Tool, that would be great but other than that, I would say it is not needed.

What are you even using HTC GPS Tool for? Also, at least for me, there's no need to change any settings in HTC GPS Tool to get a lock.

Have you installed QGPS? That's what's important to have. Once you have that, you are pretty much looking at 5-30 seconds locks in any GPS enabled program.

Lastly, to follow up on my post just above, Q(uick)GPS does fit all of the criteria that I said would be important for an aGPS release. It's reversible, uses no battery and is easy to apply.

From my testing over the last week, no, aGPS isn't needed as long as you have QGPS installed.

Still, if you've got aGPS working and it's reversible, doesn't use extra battery and is fairly easy to apply, what's the reason not to put it out there?

I agree.

Well I'll be... I was using it because I was told to use it in this and other threads. :) I have Scott's ROM so yes I'm using QGPS. But like you said, I just opened up Live Search, selected Center on GPS and it locked after about 30 seconds or so.

So, if that continues to work it appears I'm golden.

Would aGPS allow for approximate fixes without using the primary GPS antenna?

I'm less interested in accuracy of the fix than I am the battery life if I leave the GPS running for a long period, or do lots of timed updates (like every 5 minutes through the course of a day)...

If the aGPS update would allow me to get a quick, approximate fix from cell towers without actually firing up the main receiver, it'd be a big help.

I say yes. GPS works but it seems to be off by 10 yards when driving. This was similar to the Titan before aGPS was figured out.

Would aGPS allow you to use VZ Nav? If so, then yes, please help us out. I mean, you've done superb so far. I can't thank you enough. But being able to use a program with audio turn-by-turn would be excellent.

I'm dying for something with turn-by-turn audio but I can't get TomTom7 to work. I haven't figured out how to install map or audio data.

Yes, that is the general idea. Less accurate, but quicker and less battery needed. As for speed though, the current GPS implementation is pretty darn fast.

I believe aGPS is actually less accurate than normal GPS, so having it would not increase your accuracy. Also, 10 yards off is pretty darn close for a consumer product. I doubt you are going to get anything better. Most programs won't even tell you it is 10 yards off, but I assure you, is still something similar to that. The best I have seen is "within 10 meters" with Google Maps. All other programs do not report accuracy to such a degree, but will have the same error regardless.

Your comment about "before aGPS" was figured out...well, I think that was a bit of placebo on your account. I'm open to discussion on the matter. I am by no means an expert on the topic.

No, not that I am aware of. VZ Nav is something that has to be activated on your phone from Verizon.

Have you tried Garmin Mobile XT? Has audio turn-by-turn and works pretty great imho.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

I would like agps if it is reversible or there is some way to turn it off. I was recently traveling in san francisco and couldn't get a lock for 5 or 10 minutes for some reason and it would have been great to have agps for a setting like that when I was trying to find some building in the financial district. Most of the time I wouldn't need it, so if it could be turned off or reversible then I would be all for it. If it was permanent, I still might choose to use it but would first want to know if gps would work without data connection (like hiking in the mountains with no cell signal).
