Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

I just looked on HTC's website, apparently this phone does not have an internal GPS antenna. Does your mod use the cell towers like the first generation iPhones? Sorry, I am completely new to phone modding, under device informatino it says PRI version: 1.46_002 Thanks for all the help!

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

I though the 6900 did have GPS. I may be wrong though. The PRI version you are seeing is my PRI.

No, it's true GPS provided thru a Qualcomm GPSone chipset.

Oh well, thanks anyways. Guess it is time to reset the phone back to factory.

ok I knew I wasn't out of my mind thinking the touch could be gps capable. Normally I wouldn't go to this extent to assist on a device I know very little about but I had to make sure I wasn't off my rocker.

First off....always make sure you are in the right forum for your device. I can't stress that enough.

Secondly..... this is a nice little disclaimer I think you should read before going any further. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=26082

How to unlock your device so you can upgrade.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20370

ROM and Radio to make thing easy aswell as get an awesome package
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=47174

After doing those steps you will have GPS.

If you are not willing to read atleast the first post of those threads in its entirety I would highly recommend that you unplug your device and step away from the computer. Self-inflicted problems are the hardest to fix.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

I am confused, are you saing this samee pri and the rest of the fix works on both the vz6800 & the vz6850???

Or is this only for the 6850?

I do realise that the quickGPS is ok either way, it's the rest that caught me off guard.

One question though, did my fix unlock the GPS on your device?

I don't think it was ever locked, by it did take away the lag.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

I don't know if it's just something I'm not doing correctly or what but I've been through page after page of this thread and I think I'm just getting more confused. As of right now, I've followed every step outlined in post 1 on this thread. It seems the more I read, the less I actually understand about what is supposed to be happening.

Here's what I have so far:
It's an VZW HTC Touch Pro 6850
Model No.: RAPH500
ROM Version: 1.03.605.4 (Stock VZW ROM)
Radio Version: 1.03.03V
PRL Version: 51064
PRI Version: 1.46_002

Like I said, I've followed the steps in post 1 and I'm not getting any satellites, not in Google Maps, not in VZ Nav and not in HTC GPS Tool. Am I missing something?

It does.

Hey bored have you tried older drivers for this chipset? For example, the drivers for th titan or Vogue? I know there is a variance in the model but not sure to what extent? Just curious.

Turn location on?

What does VZ Nav say? Do you have a data plan?

Yes, Location is on and I have an unlimited data plan.

VZ Nav says "SERVICE AUTHORIZATION ERROR: PLEASE CALL *611 TO VERIFY THAT YOU ARE PROVISIONED TO USE VZ NAVIGATOR [30]"

I hope that tells you more than it tells me. The only thing I can see is that VZW still thinks I'm not supposed to be using GPS. (I'd like to disagree, hehe.)

You ran \windows\ppst.exe on the device and then *228?

What phase did you start with, I or II? Also note that the first post of the thread gets updated for clarification, have you checked back?

Sound like your not supposed to be using VZ Nav.
I can also tell by the PRL # that you havent dialed #228 like you need to.

Ya I done that a while back. Both give me comm errors. I even edited the model id in them and still come up with comm errors. I'll tell ya what I'm working on but you'll have to pm me for that :)

I wouldn't have thought I should use VZ Nav either, but he asked me what it said, hehe.

I just dialed *228 and PRL is now 51143 but HTC GPS Tool still doesn't pick up any satellites. The phone shows I'm getting Ev reception.

Do you have the tool set to q7500 chip... cold start....4800 baud?

Also do you have QuickGPS install. If so run it and get an updated almanac. If not, it's posted in post 598 I think page 60. Exact info on that is in post 1.

One other thing, GPS is line of sight. You may need to step outside to be positive if it will lock or not.

Yeah, you need to pay for VZ Nav. ITs a great way to prime if you cant get a lock. Its free for 30 days so I tried it out... **** I forgot to cancel! Oh well. Its a good back up.

Yeah, I have the tool set to Q7500 chip, cold start and 4800 baud rate.

I installed QuickGPS and it's failing to connect to download updates. I don't know why it would fail. I've verified that my data connection works. I can even view this forum on my device.

Man, I hate to bother the master.. But... I am about to return my 3 phones and switch to Sprint.. (yes all is well with Google, live, HTC tool)...
Fist off, I hate verizon for doing this and if SPRINT was not sold out, I would have gone with them and I am still inside of my 30 days and even though I have the phones all set up and hours into them.. I am about to shove them up their A$$!
:violent2:
The problem I am having is with the SMS - GPS tracking programs http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459604
The one attached you can see if GPS works or not.
After about an hour, I can get 8/0 but no locks.. Even with doing HTC GPS tool first, and I have tried starting that first, after, sideways and backwards.. LOL
Yes, I set it to com port 4...

Okay I did that and I was able to download the updates. After doing that I tried the GPS tool again and no dice. For good measure, I tried another soft reset and then the GPS tool again, still nothing. I don't doubt that this should work because other people here have it working.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the help. I have it working now. I was able to do it without using the ROM linked above. I hesitate to flash my ROM because I don't want to void my warranty in case I really screw something up. That, and I like knowing that if I mess something up I can just reset to factory defaults and start anew.

File PPST1.46.cab on first page. Install it then run PPST.exe from your windows folder. It will reboot, then dial *22899

Have a general question to ask....... do you guys really want agps? I've got it working but I'm hesitant about releasing it.

Let me know what you think. Keep in mind you have GPS that should work fairly well. Is there really a point in having AGPS?

From my testing over the last week, no, aGPS isn't needed as long as you have QGPS installed.

Still, if you've got aGPS working and it's reversible, doesn't use extra battery and is fairly easy to apply, what's the reason not to put it out there?

I'd be happier with something that replaced HTC GPS Tool that actually saved settings, or was a simple "Start GPS" app that didn't require you to set com ports, chip types, etc to get going. I don't see a need for aGPS, but I live in the country. City folk might have more of a need?
