I see no labels for the FM Radio, but I did post a question for him asking if he found one and also maybe one of us here can see it in the pictures...

Where has no2chem been lately? He usually disappears before making a big discovery.

As quoted by the owner of the site in reference to the FM Radio question...

Quote:

No we didn’t. None of the marked chips were FM-related, but there ARE some unmarked (no manufacturer name) ICs that could possibly be it. If anyone knows what the IC looks like in the GSM versions, we’d be happy to take another look.

Why did you need a replacement?

Re: CDMA Touch Pro Teardown!!

i take it this was a sprint branded touch pro? also wasnt the FM Radio part of the qualcomm chipset?

BigDiesel07 12-20-2008 05:21 PM

Re: CDMA Touch Pro Teardown!!

Yes.. This was a Sprint-branded CDMA Touch Pro.. Not known for sure about the FM Radio on the Qualcomm chipset..Does anybody know what the GSM FM radio is?

Re: CDMA Touch Pro Teardown!!

does anyone have a similar HTC Diamond Teardown. then compare that to the Pro. if the FM radio is working on the Diamond. would it be possable to compare each board and see difference.

Its spl locked, i know it is. thats why the driver can almost interface with the hardware but not quite :)

Re: CDMA Touch Pro Teardown!!

the sony xperia x1 has the same bluetooth chipset... i tried the software for the radio from that with no avail lol

That's no2chem's guess like he said for whatever reason they were probably unable to get FCC's approval prior to the release. A big push was on this phone to get released, this is why the first batch had some flaws to them like the raised home button, the issue with the chrome and others. My guess is just like Sprint did us with the HTC Touch and GPS, we will probably find a way to hack it prior to there release of an update enabling it. Most all the files are there for it, so I doubt they would place the files on the phone if the radio didn't exist. Like Juggalo said its probably just locked in the spl.

BigDiesel07 12-20-2008 06:14 PM

Re: CDMA Touch Pro Teardown!!

Is it possible to unlock the SPL?

Re: CDMA Touch Pro Teardown!!

Did this find anything else out, like why KB lighting is uneven or why some phones speakers are compromised, or maybe why the hardware KB is so slow compared to a software KB, screen edge sensitivity? Have any DIY improvements been found?

THANKS!!!!

P.S. I saw a AT&T Fuze today, and I must say, that much of the phone looked to be a better build quality then the Sprint TP. Not every aspect of the phone (The KB was the same) but remove the back cover and see that it is a better plastic, look at the inside, the speaker, the antenna layout, just all of it looked better, the sides of the phone looked better without the chrome, the screen did not have a sensitivity issue that I could find... Just thought I would share, I would only expect someone who has seen one to understand what I am saying, wish I had one to compare...

Re: CDMA Touch Pro Teardown!!

All I know is that seeing the insides of a TP is like seeing your own guts hanging out after an accident. Nasty! Makes me cringe but cool as he**! I know you guys will figure out the FM deal! I have faith in all you guys in here!

BigDiesel07 12-20-2008 06:48 PM

Re: CDMA Touch Pro Teardown!!

There is a registry edit in the Touch Pro Essential thread that increases screen sensitivity..I like seeing the pics personally Gator.. Always nice to know what it looks like on the inside..

The BRF6350 bluetooth chipset does have FM radio on board. I don't know if the BL version might have FM absent or not, though.

TP is sexy inside as it is on the outside.

Re: CDMA Touch Pro Teardown!!

Looking closely it appears the TP has the same configuration around the BRF6350 as the Experia does (which has the FM radio)....definately looks as though the nessasary hardware may be there, though there is not enough detail to know for sure.

I found this link which seems to confirm this:

http://focus.ti.com/pdfs/wtbu/ti_bluelink_6_brf6350.pdf

I can't find anything about the BRF6350BL so I don't know if BL just stands for TI's "Blue Link". Just guessing.

Re: CDMA Touch Pro Teardown!!

The Experia is GSM though so it had a different chipset...

Re: CDMA Touch Pro Teardown!!

A minor update... In the link posted on the OP, in the comments section, there has been talk about the connectors on the mainboard that look like antenna connections... I thought to update you all on this.. Might be informational...

Question asked...

Quote:

Hey, what type of connectors are those on the mainboard connection that look like antenna connections, do they have a specific name, or specific number?
Best information given....

Quote:

well, after calling around to several places it turns out that this connector is not:
and MC connector
nor a U.FL connector
or even the more exotic MS-147 connector, even though it is the closest to that.
and

Quote:

don’t know for sure but they look like standard MC-card connectors in the pictures, you probably want a MC-card to SMA pigtail i would guess depending on what kind of antenna your thinking of connecting to it.

Good stuff but I have a question. You posted on the forums you got this information asking if they had found the chip with the fm on it? But in the fm thread you claimed to have a secret person who was sending you that information. What happened to your super secret source?

Now back on topic. If you look at those images there are a few chips that have no information on them. Like the diamond does also. It is possible its in there some where. Id like to find pictures of a gsm pro and compare.
