Re: UPDATE:Rainbow looking circle
Ok just wanted to report My findings with researching this issue
The issue is caused by 3 things but believe it or not they are both 2 different issues we are talking about. After reading through alot if this thread I wondered if I could duplicate the issues you guys have been having so I could write up a product issue announcement through VZW (meaning VZW would call HTC and order them to investigate) and have sacrificed 2 (and my last) insurance replacements for the year. First cause: Cosmetic Defect in screen This is indeed appears to be more prevelant in early builds but can happen on ANY build. You can see it more clearly in florescent lighting or with a screen protector which slightly sticks to the screen pressing in on it. This defect however will not normally cause any issues unless it MOVES TO THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN. If it stays on the outside or close to the middle there wont be any effect or if it gets to the middle the touch screen will SLIGHTLY stop working in that spot. Im attempting to get more samples to send in to HTC but I am out of luck at this moment. Second cause: Moisture/Oil on or even under the screen This naturally is caused by moisture in the are and typically happens on any recessive touch screen. This is still normally a build issue as its supposed to be tight enough around the screen to avoid this but it can still happen (tried the pocket trick used earlier and low and behold a small marking popped up. This appears to have the same characteristics as the above however moisture/oil is never good and can kill the touchscreen if not repaired correctly. Third cause: Vibration!!!/Pressure from stylus or Fingers This one was a test I ran on the suggestion made earlier that basic abuse can cause the issue and this the layers on the screen somehow dislodges and doesnt work properly. I took a phone I was replacing with warranty(replacing for charger port but now using insurance to replace for screen) and left it upside down with the screen laying on top of my pc overnight (my pc has a vibration issue at this point though its VERY SLIGHT as in you wouldn't notice it unless you sat down and tried to pay attention and listen to it.) Low and behold this one was completely different almost. I got a rainbow rectangle that was slightly smaller than the entire screen and KILLED THE SCREENS TOUCH ABILITY. anything I pressed would not register for the most part and the phone then became completely unusable If you press inside the rectangle it would reveal more rainbow spots across the screen as you ran your fingers over it. These findings were done with the VZW XV6850 Touch Pro so I have not been able to test sprint models at all at this point. If I get my hands on one that someone doesnt want then I may be able to test that when I get the chance. Again these are just MY findings and would not recommend anyone attemping these one a working TP. I will write a product issue on it to confirm the defect in the screen once I have a few more samples. |
Re: UPDATE:Rainbow looking circle
Mine has this issue in the middle of the screen. I can see it in any type of light, and the touch sensitivity is fine. It's just cosmetic so far, but doesn't seem right.

Re: UPDATE:Rainbow looking circle
Mine started out TINY, off-center, then within 3 weeks, quickly evolved into a rectangle covering nearly the entire screen. I LOVED that TP, the screen was bright white, extremely black blacks, very sharp and the screen was alot harder, maybe more solid plastic or even glass AND the touch response and accuracy on it was perfect. My new TP has a craptastic screen; dingy white that's slightly bothering to look at, washed out black color, not as sharp and the screen has a weeeeaaaak plastic cover and the taps of my stylus or finger often don't register. Daaaangit!

I went into a Verizon Store, and after waiting >1 hour for 'Tech', the gentleman looked at my screen, and said no probelm, except that they do not have tP's in stock, so he will have it sent to me from the warehouse. After entering all of the info, he tells me that that store can only pull from the local warehouse, which also does not have any TP's, so I should call 611 and tell them that a Store tech validated that the phone was defective, and they will ship to me from any warehouse. 20 minutes on the phone with VZW 611 (from my other VZW phone, i760) and the lady agreed to Overnight a replacement, but by that time it was too late to ship out so I wont recieve it until Friday. Now, bigger question, my phone is unlocked, flashed with my favorite ROM, GPS activated, and a whole bunch of other stuff, do I not worry about it and send it back in? I don't think that I can reflash it and relock it without use of the touchscreen. Thanks all. ken |
Re: UPDATE:Rainbow looking circle
Thanks for the update, that's great news. Reflashing does not require use of the touch screen. I'd flash it back to stock, just in case. I've never had to re-lock, so I can't comment on that part.
If you can, install Mymobiler, you will be able to control your phone from your PC. |

Re: UPDATE:Rainbow looking circle
I've got an update for you guys, I'll make it short.
My friend wanted for us to go to our local service center at first. But before we headed out, he wanted to Chat Online with Sprint reps. Long story short, he was able to get transferred to the Technical Support chat rather than whatever the first level you default to. He explained the situation, and he was able to get his replacement ordered. Meanwhile, I was still chatting with the first level rep, and she told me three different things. At first she was like, You can get it replaced at your local center. Then she said I would have to call a number for Sprint Replacement. And finally she told me I would have to go through Asurion. So she REALLY had no clue. So after the third deal, I told her ok, thanks, bye! I reconnected to the chat, got someone else, I asked to be transferred to the Tech Support Chat. She sent me over. I explained that a friend of mine had the same issue as my phone, and I explained it as, "The manufactuer defect of the perfectly rectangular bubble on the LCD". They knew what this was, and asked me a few more questions and I received an email about my replacement being ordered. Received my replacement THE NEXT FREAKING DAY!!!!!!! |
