Youtube - I can't find it - RESOLVED!

1 Attachment(s)
I've searched and searched. I can't find any posts specifically pertaining to YouTube on the Pro.

Will it work in Opera? What about HTC Youtube? I can't get that to work either. DOES YouTube work at all on the Pro yet?

UPDATE: Thanks to Quick99Si for the heads up and hard work researching this. As it turns out, HTC TouchFlo must be installed for the HTC YouTube app to work properly. I've gone through the files to figure out what exactly needs to be present for it to work, but quite honestly, the CAB is so small that it's insignificant in my book.

Thanks again Quick!

The CAB is attached.

Built-in. I didn't mention I cooked my own ROM. And I take complete blame for that.

Now that it's been said, any help? I checked the HTC YouTube app in the kitchen but when I run it, I get the error that it's either unsigned, or missing components.

Re: Youtube - I can't find it

I navigated to the Windows folder and manually ran youtube.exe. Nothing happens. I get a sound like an error has popped up, but nothing. So, the shortcut on the programs menu gives me an error, and trying to run it directly produces nothing.

No one else has had this?

Re: Youtube - I can't find it

I've tried three different cabs tonight and can't get it to work. I've tried reflashing without HTC Youtube and installing it via cab. I've tried installing it via the Kitchen's OEM then applying the fix. Sometimes it sorta works. By sorta, I mean there's horrible distortion and colored lines on the screen, but I can play a video 1/4 screen with all the colored lines around it.

Re: Youtube - I can't find it

Funny, I found the VGA cab, it works perfectly except for the fact that there is absolutely no sound, I've tried multiple methods, running it in the lower quality mode, never a peep of sound for the videos, but atleast it plays perfectly.

If it helps anyone, I have a Sprint Touch Pro flashed with the VZW rom and VZW's service, but I don't see how that could affect it. Either way, I hope you have better luck then I did.

Re: Youtube - I can't find it

I'm having the same problem as you are. I thought it may be an issue with root certificates not being properly installed in the kitchen. Do apps even access that? I'm looking at HTC Privileged Root Cert specifically because HTC Audio Manager has the same error as YouTube.

Anyway, I made a post about this same problem.. see that thread here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=583506 (includes nosound VGA YouTube cab)

As well as my post near the bottom of the page in the 20931 build thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...=46526&page=12

BTW Hibby's rom has working YouTube just like the stock shipped Sprint rom.

I'm thinking that the error isn't a certificate issue only because when trying to run the program directly from the Windows folder, it fails. The error states that it could be unsinged or it's missing a component. The whole "not running" thing makes me think that's why the error is coming up.

You don't happen to have an OEM for your YouTube installation, do you?

Yeah definitely not a cert issue.. I just compared the sizes of the certificate files in a working and nonworking YT, and they're the same.

I downloaded eRice's kitchen and it seems to have the Youtube-_VGA OEM in it. I'm fairly certain that it's derived from the Youtube-_VGA cab I've already tried. Gonna try flashing it in a few minutes and I'll let you know.

edit- the OEM package in eRice's kitchen is the same exact thing, down to the GUID identifier..

I've used 2 roms based on build 20931 with fully functional YouTube apps. Could it be a simple registry entry?

Re: Youtube - I can't find it

I dunno at this point. I'm getting kinda frustrated. Not at anyone in particular. Just in general. It worked on the stock ROM, right? I never tried it so I really can't say. But I've got my Kitchen ROM just about the way I want it except YT won't work. I'm like right there.

People are saying "Just use this ROM it's already cooked and YT works". I'd really prefer to cook my own ROM. There's gotta be a way to pull what they have in their ROMs and put them in OEM or CAB format....

My sentimend exactly, WORD FOR WORD. I have everything figured out except this and the battery percentage not showing up.

The stock rom has YouTube and it works, as do all roms found on here (unless intentially ommitted). But we get that error if we try to cook it into our own roms or do a cab install on a rom that doesn't have YT... except a couple of people who have successfully installed it via the same kitchen that we have.

I spent some time this morning testing out different combinations/registry values, but it looks like it's time wasted :(

Any insight from anyone?

Thank you! Testing.

*crosses fingers*

edit-
The OEM package your posted and the OEM in the kitchen's rar file have 200 files each.
The only difference is the ffffffff-135c-4ddf-8a9a-4592dad4ca63.dsm file... your OEM has it at ~154kb, the kitchen's rar file is <1kb

Flashing..

No go for me :( Does it matter that I took out the old package from the RAR file, replaced it with the one Hibby posted, and re-RAR'ed it back up?

mdphoenix 12-17-2008 12:43 PM

Re: Youtube - I can't find it

Not sure. I think I'm going to pull the one out of the RAR file and just use Hibby's because the GUIDs are identical and the kitchin is crying about it.

Stay tuned...

I can't imagine this is going to work. The one Hibby sent us is identical in every way to the one in the Kitchen. Thanks for the attempt Hibby. I'm gonna try this anyway, but I can't see how it's going to work.

That's what I did the first time because of the GUID conflict. Old one out of the rar, Hibby's in, repack and cook.

All the files show up in the Windows directory fine just like before too.

Do you experience a 5-second lag when opening the Internet tab in TF3D? Could this be related the the YouTube link being in there? 4 other rom's I've used only have a 1-2 second lag and are noticeably faster, all of which had working YT BTW.

The DSM file is 150+ kb whereas the other one is under 1kb. It's different, but not enough to make it work.

ps- where did you buy your TouchPro? What is the manufacture date? Maybe we have a weird variant... Best Buy & 11/09 here.

Re: Youtube - I can't find it

Quick - I don't use TF3d. I gave up on that damned thing. It just won't run nicely for me. I've even tried TF2D vga. I've just gone back to the Pocket Digital Clock, Today Agenda, and Phone suite and am pretty happy with it. I just got turned on to S2U2 and really like it, but again, the one in the kitchen doesn't work properly. My TP was bought through Verizon. I ordered it the day before it went public and got it the day it was released (my VZW rep likes me). The date code is 181008.

I'm wondering if somehow the QVGA Kitchen incorporates files with the VGA? I mean, if I select Herman, does the Kitchen even touch the QVGA file? Time to do some serious experimenting...

Youtube worked out of the box for me as well. Is it possible to have some sort of application security lock that would prevent certain TP's from using this app on cooked roms?

Re: Youtube - I can't find it

<-- Big HTC Home fan, so that's my go-to homescreen but I have TF3D as a "backup" in case I get bored with HTC Home :)

So our problem doesn't seem to be model date or carrier specific. Could it be a specific combination of selected OEM's? (ie YouTube and Java, but not Streaming Player and BT or something) - I'm clearly just thinking crazy because I'm about ready to give up :/

Thanks for your help with all this Hibby

Well our phone do have accelerometers and light sensors, so why not sophisticated nationality detection algorithms as well?

HOLD UP! There's an HTC Streaming Media option in the Kitchen... I swear to god if that's been it the whole time I'm going to shoot myself in the face with a bazooka.

I've had Streaming Media in the majority of my roms, didn't help the errors we're experiencing. So yeah, put the bazooka down for the time being :P

Re: Youtube - I can't find it

I just loaded the .cab and fix that Girlsrockmyface posted to no avail. This is driving me bugnuts. What's interesting is not that it doesn't run, but I get the error, "The file "YouTube" cannot be opened. Eitehr it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of it's components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring the file."

That's from running the link in the Programs menu. Running the file directly from Windows once again produces the error sound with no message.

Hibby, do you have a list of what's in your ROMs? Also, will they work on VZW?

I have the Fuze and it doesnt come with YouTube .. well kinda, It is in the windows folder and there are 3 files. I can click using file browser and it runs fine I have been looking for how to get the program added to the programs tab. I only Posted this because this is with the TF3D running and it works perfect for me. Actually seems much better than it did on the Tilt I just had with the TF2D running. I also found another folder with history etc.. folders in it.
