Sprint Touch Pro Reg Tweaks...

Hi, I know this is a noob question, but I am new to HTC from the Palm 755P, and am hoping to do a few reg tweaks I found here in the forum related to speed and battery performance...

Using something like Total Commander, how do I navigate to, for example, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE?

I can get to the main file folder tree for the phone within Total Commander, but have no idea where/what to do from there to complete the reg edits... what higher folder is HKEY even in?

If anyone could walk me through a quick step-by-step to get started I can run from there...in lieu of that, if there is a tutorial I somehow missed when searching and you could point me to that, that would be helpful too...
