I downloaded some "stuff" a few weeks ago for my TomTom, and it had a virus in it. That's why I check "stuff" for viruses. They are very common. I would not be surprised if people do it to PPC software too.

Re: PPC virus scanner for Touch Pro?

But apart from viruses and stuff thru links/sites/programs, there are other ways we can still get infected, right?
Such as thru phishing sites, hijacking legitimate website , etc.. we could go to our legitimate sites and get redirected and infected.
So how do you protect against that?
A good firewall/antivirus/antispyware would help in such cases, right?

Re: PPC virus scanner for Touch Pro?

You really cannot get infected just by browsing. You would have to be really click-happy, and add some activeX plugin of some kind. You are safe on your ppc though...

Re: PPC virus scanner for Touch Pro?

Why do we even need this? There are only a handful known virus run on PPC. You can use one single hand to count them all and one of them is not even classified as virus, well proof of concept may be. It is a waste of time at this stage to load any useless virus scanner where no virus is in sight.

It's like having a virus scanner on a Mac... why bother? Well, I guess Mac users are more prone to click/download or otherwise do something to get a virus, but 99% of viruses are written to attack Windows/x86 systems.

It's not very worthwhile to create viruses for small market sections.

I would once again, bet everything I own that non-trojan(collector) viruses, are somehow written, or at least involved with some of the major A/V companies. It's too convenient. Sometimes they have a fix for the viruses before people even know it exists.

Conspiracies aside, there's no need to waste RAM or clock-cycles running a virus scanner, at this point, or probably EVER on your WM phone.

Re: PPC virus scanner for Touch Pro?

I think it is probably necessary on a pc, but on a ppc the memory and speed you lose is not worth it. Especially since there are not many threats reported. For now I would just keep a good backup program and if worse comes to worse hard reset and restore.

Edit: I just got my e-mail to beta test Flexilis. How ironic.........

Re: PPC virus scanner for Touch Pro?

a hard reset takes minutes, in the event of a problem, do that, don't slow down your device all the time to save a couple minutes. if you sync every day, and keep important **** in my docs, it will all be duplicated on your pc. so you don't really risk losing stuff, only a days work if you sync daily
