ie and GPS not working..

hey yall, i've searched around and done every trick in the book (except hard resetting) to try and get these to work but i cant seem to figure it out. no matter what site i put in the address bar it wont load a page. i always get "the address is not valid. check the address and try again". and the gps jus refuses to find get a lock. these two programs were working just fine a while ago but i cant seem to figure out what caused them to stop suddenly. opera mini and mobile works fine, and so does skyfire, but ie refuses to do anything, and i cant get the gps to work on ANY application. does anyone else have similiar issues?

Re: ie and GPS not working..

Nah blue fortunately I do not have that prob. I know you been around da block but do you have your system data backed up? am thinking if you tweaked anything or some other program hijacked your setting you may hard reset and do a restore.
Now, did you verify your gps setting? com4,baud 4800? did you by any chance change your browser default?that shouldn't interfer ...

Re: ie and GPS not working..

Hey blue4shizzle: Believe it or not I had the exact same issue your having. I didn't post about it. I also tried everyting that's on the site, and no luck. But I did do a hard reset 4 hours later, and it did take care of it. The only difference between me and you, is prior to this happening I did dl alot of different things to try them out. It seemed like the next day I had this issue. Anyways, Hope that Helps.

Thanks T M Z

Re: ie and GPS not working..

so im doing a little research on my issue, and i think my gps isnt working because my ie doesnt work, they seem to be tied together somehow, because any other web based client works flawlessly but the stock ones (except opera mobile) wont pull in data. hmm, i still am trying to hold out from this hard reset, its not a MAJOR issue for me, but definately frustrating as i would like to use ie and gps (obviously) in certain situations

Tmz, I am debating whether to install Kinoma or not due to the hijacking of file association. Is that easy to revert by just checking and unchecking or wass da deal?
Blue, got any back ups man? why don't u ininstall all da recent isht and see what happens? or may be i can get you the original file that you replaced for the button hacks, those are .dll stuff, messy messy:))

!!! that might be it, i didnt hear anything about a file hijacking association issue with kinoma, and i definately installed that mess, funny thing is, in my quest to fix this issue of mine, i un-installed a few apps and restored some reg-edits to see if it would fix the issue and i still have the same problem, so do you think kinoma play has something to do with IE not working... i uninstalled it but i still cant connect (assuming that would be the cause)

Re: ie and GPS not working..

I doubt it is Kinoma dowg,I am suspecting may be just may be you dropped a file/or did a reg edit under IE, I never messed with it, but may be comparing ie file may be helpful assuming we locate them somewhere with resco or else..whatcha think dude?

blue4shizzle 12-08-2008 09:36 PM

Re: ie and GPS not working..

well i know for a fact that i didnt do any reg edits under IE.. but its worth a shot if you want to post what you got.. i appreciate the help though btw, i know i did a few file edits with total commander, but im going to assume they have nothing to do with ie as they were only for the icon hacks.. (battery, speaker, start menu, signal bars, bluetooth, ect)

You are right about the hijacking of files. That's the reason why I put the kabosh to Kinoma. Couldn't figure out how to stop that. So I had to get rid of it.

blue4shizzle, good luck on it. Might be easier to do that hard reset. :evil4:

everything is configured properly.. considering how i never changed any of that to begin with, but i double and tripple checked everything and it is for sure the way it is supposed to be set up. i checked out a few threads with gps issues to make sure all my settings are correct, but i really just think that my gps doesnt work because my ie wont pull in data. i believe they work together, because sprint tv works fine, and so does opera or any other web based app. its jus ie that wont pull data. in fact, when i use telenav. it even says that it cant connect to the server, and live search wont even perform a search anymore... so im about 90% sure this is an ie issue, if i fix ie, i should get my gps back

tmz 12-08-2008 10:13 PM

So you are not getting sprint home page then ?

what do you mean?

Re: ie and GPS not working..

What I mean is, when I hit internet exploerer, and only internet explorer. I got the thinking wheel. For about 1 minute or so before it went to "the address is not valid". There was never an address bar, or anything. Just the message. My mini worked fine, ucweb6 worked fine, and skyfire worked fine. That's what puzzled me.

That really sucks about Kinoma & they have flat out refused to address this despite repeated request from advanced users to change this.

It's easy to fix however if you have Resco Explorer (great app) In Resco, you can click "open with" just like on your PC & get the same checkbox for "always use this app to open this type of file".

I like Kinoma & have the paid version, but the next thing I do after installing it is to open Resco & undo all the file associations.........

In Resco Explorer, click & hold down on any file. You then get a pop up with a bunch of options including open. Click open, then "open with" & click the program you want to use. It will then give you the "always use this program to open this type of file" checkbox just like Windows on your PC.

oh ok. does that mean you do this for each file? and there is nothing that can be changed in Kinoma itself...

Yea, but it's no big deal. You can't change anything in Kinoma (it's like the ultimate noob app). You just open Resco & say for instance click on any jpeg & set it to open with s2v. From then on, any time you click a jpeg it will open in s2v.

There aren't really that many file associations that matter, I change jpegs & a few others but it is simple to do & you only have to do it once..
