Also if you're using a different radio (I'm using the telus radio on a Sprint TP) do you need to update using the telus PRI?

PRI's are obtained from unziping the Shipped OEM ROM's. It will be a cab file that is sitting in the folder with the ruu and nbh files.

Since no one answered my question I'll answer it myself after a post from Juggalo. In order to use PRL/PRI update you must be running the Sprint radio.

Now if I could only THANK myself!!

I've never been able to find a good answer to "what the heck is the PRI, and why do I care?"

http://www.justalurker.com/howto.html

Seems to imply that its related to the PRL, and is something like a tiebreaker. However, it seems like (at least for sprint) the PRI is only updated on rom/radio updates, so this might just be a case of acronym overload.

Way back in the mogul days there was some slight change in the PRI about the time sprint enabled agps - if you had the old PRI you'd get crappy sat locks, if you had the newer one, you'd get the "few second agps insta-lock".

So clearly its important. Its just not clear why, or how :D

Does anyone know exactly what the heck the pri is?

Re: Latest PRI version?

Here's a good definition of PRL from http://www.phonescoop.com/glossary/term.php?gid=11

PRL

(Preferred Roaming List)
The PRL is a list of information that resides in the memory of a digital phone. It lists the frequency bands the phone can use in various parts of the country. (The smaller bands within Cellular or PCS, technically called blocks.)

The part of the list for each area is ordered by the bands the phone should try to use first. Therefore it's a kind of priority list for which towers the phone should use.

For example, say you had a Sprint PCS phone, and were travelling in an area with no Sprint coverage, weak Verizon coverage, and strong Qwest coverage. The PRL would tell the phone to look for towers using Sprint's band for that area. Finding none, it might tell the phone to search for towers in Verizon's band next, perhaps because Sprint's roaming agreement with Qwest was not as favorable, or none existed. The phone would use Verizon's towers, as dictated by the PRL, even though Qwest might provide a better signal.

Since a PRL tells the phone "where" to search for a signal, as carrier networks change over time, an updated PRL may be required for a phone to "see" all of the coverage that it should.
