Well then what's the explanation for not being able to play a 640x480 video smoothly?

i really don't think it has anything to do with the lack of of drivers. it is qualcomm chipset. i an sure htc did not include the drives with ppc 6700 and it did video just fine with its pxa 270 416 mhz intel cpu.

I really don't think you're correct here. It would be different if the drivers were there and the device performed this badly.

Drivers I think are the issue more then anything else... Phones with the same Qualcomm chipset don't have graphic issues like HTC phones do..

What sort of phones have the same chipsets? Any way to extract their drivers?

Well... The CDMA Diamond has the same exact chipset... The new Sony X1a is MSM 7201a, as is the HTC Touch HD... As a side note, HTC is contracted by Sony to build the X1a for them... I also believe the G1 uses it, and HTC builds that phone as well...

The GSM Touch Pro and Diamond use MSM7201.. With a being the CDMA version...

The CDMA Touch Pro has the MSM7501A (Alltel, Sprint, Telus, etc.) and MSM7500A (VZW) chipsets. The GSM is MSM7201A.

What is funny about this is that when we had teh Touch, everyone was trying to get and mod the Diamond drivers to use on the touch for better performance. Here we are now trying to come up with a reason/fix for the Diamond/Touch Pro.
