Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

WORKS ON VERIZON! When I put the phone to my face it turns the screen OFF automatically during a call!

VZ TP > Sprint TP in something! Celebrate!!! LOLz!!!!!!!

Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

I'm on sprint, mine does NOT auto shout off, but I would like it to...

Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

I know that if I don't use the Verizon dialer skin, it doesn't work.

Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

I used Advanced Config, but it still didnt work, does not automatically shut off when phone is placed close to face while on a call.

lol, why are there more posts about hockey than the topic?, and yea, very interested in this if someone can make it happen on the Sprint TP!

Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

it is supposed to turn off while against your face, then turn back on when you take it away from your face.

Seems like one of those options that sprint may have messed up. Does anyone know a fix for this?

Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

yeah, I'm in the same boat here. Never have seen this happen for my phone, either. Would love it to, though!

The checkbox for "Auto adjust backlight" must be enabled in your Power settings.

I tried the hack here and it made no difference: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44386

any luck anyone? I would also love to get this feature to work...

wouldnt that just make it duller, but not turn it off... its just so that when its dark it uses less battery life since it doesnt have to be as bright as it is during the day cause of the contrast

Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

Mine works....well it dims the back light when I'm on a call during the daytime, turns it off when on a call at night. I'm using the stock sprint rom with the windows dialer skin(I know ugly, but faster). No hacks just works....didn't notice it when I had the HTC skin on there, but I wasn't paying attention until I read this thread.

Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

I was under the impression that the light sensor is susposed to turn off the screen when you're on a call so your cheeks don't end the call accidentally. This would happen to me with my mogul, and with the larger end call button on the TP I would imagine it would be much worse. This would be a real handy cool feature if I could get it to work...

Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

Well i have a Sprint Touch Pro and my screen turns off when i'm in a call. It has worked with the last couple of custom roms i've used, i even think it worked with the stock rom but it's been so long i can't remember lol. First i had Juggalo's but now i'm with Dreams rom and it works no problem.

RockSta® 12-30-2008 02:38 PM

Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

^^^ To the ppl that are saying theres work, i dont think thats the light sensor at work, thats a timer that turns the phone off when on call after a few seconds, (probaly a minute) i could be wrong, but i dont think that its the sensor.

creedin 12-30-2008 02:38 PM

Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

there is a difference between what you guys think is the light sensor and what is actually happening.

Sprint roms will turn off within say 3 seconds, no matter where the phone is, if the phone is dialing and still connected, try turning the phone on, it will shutoff within another three or so seconds

Verizon rom would actually use the light sensor and if the light sensor sensed light it would turn on and stay on, otherwise it would stay off.

No there is a registry value that is EnableFastDormantDisplay or something like that, which is the 3 second value. If you disable that, the phone will not turn off in 3 seconds, but in say 10 seconds with the Sleep value in the registry.

I personally use the htc phone key blocker, disabled the fast dormant display and let it sleep, just incase i need to press a key or something.

I want the opposite to happen, when i am in a call the screen turns off, i have pull the phone away from my face and hit the power button. Really annoying, i just want it to stay on or dim.

No, this is not true- at least for me... and I just tested it out again to make sure.

Mine will turn off enentually, but as suggested I believe it has more to do with the power/sleep settings and nothing to do with the light sensor.

As others have pointed out, I think that's the power settings of your phone.

If your lightsensor is turning off the call, the screen will go black after the phone has been up to your face for a couple of seconds.

My VZW TP does do that.

Yeah, that's just the issue, my light sensor doesn't work, but I want it to...

Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

On Juggalo's Rom in Phone | Options | Services there is a setting Call Guard. If you turn that on then the light sensor will turn off the screen on a call. I looked at the Bell stock ROM and that settings isn't there. So just have to find out how Juggalo turned it on and then enable it.

I thought that the Call Guard was for preventing calls while roaming , 'cause I'm pretty sure that DCD's roms for the Titan had it on by default (from back when I had it).

Not sure.

I tested the light sensor turning off the screen and it works. Can someone test if call guard affects roaming? I live in a Bell only area so can't test.

well, any idea on how to get this to work properly on a sprint Touch Pro?
Does it have to do with the HTC Dialer?

The only place I found call guard was Settings|Phone|Services|Roaming

It's at the bottom and I'm using stock Sprint rom.

Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

well, wouldnt the pressing the end thing with your cheek be kinda funky, i mean i dont think you'll apply the kind of pressure you need to press the button is the same kind of pressure you'll put up against your face.

but then again, i've held it away many times from my face in fear that i'll press the end call button.

we could just start a trend of ending our calls my slamming the phone into the side of our cheeks. should catch on really well. =P

It definitely does when you're on Verizon. I have a Sprint TP running the leaked vz ROM. If I use the HTC dialer, the screen goes totally black (not dimmed) as soon as you put your phone to your ear during an incoming call. If you need it lit for any reason, you have to push the power button & it will light up & stay on at that point.

I don't use the HTC dialer (although I would like to). I use the WinMo dialer with a custom skin as it rings a full two (sometimes three) rings sooner on an incoming call & that's important to me. Using the WinMo dialer skin, the screen does not dim or go out on an incoming call.

ok, so what your saying is this:
-with the HTC Dialer, it will work properly??
If this is correct, please explain to the lay perosn whom knows nothing at all about anything to do with this phone, and is on sprint running the stock OEM rom how to make this work.
Thanks

It does on Verizon, I don't really know how it works running a Sprint ROM.

Where is this "Enable Fast Dormant Display" key?

EDIT: Nevermind I found it:

Re: Use light sensor to turn screen off while on call

It's actually very annoying that this DOESNT work on my stock sprint Touch Pro properly!! It's actually pretty pathctic that we are forced as a community to fix the screw-ups of our providers. It's pretty sad!
Can't they just let the manufacturer of the phone make the software and hardware and just spend more time on working on their network making it more faster and reliable?
That would make too much sense..

Sounds like a load of bull to me. And who can be without their phone for 3 weeks!

I'm also on the sprint rom and really wish it would be nice to have this feature. even if the screen turned off on a timer it would be nicer than nothing. i've had my check dial other numbers while on the phone...

mtnmedic 04-30-2009 07:04 PM

It Works!!!!!

Did a little digging and found this:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488991

It's a neat little appy that comes with several user-definable settings. I have the stock Sprint ROM on my Touch Pro using the TFLO3D interface (customised).

I installed the cab, did a soft reset, placed a call and WHAM, it worked! I put the phone up to my face and the whole screen went black. As soon as I moved the phone away from my face, it lit back up automatically! :headbang: One of the settings I UNchecked was "ignore the light sensor". Apparently this program doesn't really depend on the light sensor but it does use it.

Sweetness! I've been scratching my head at this problem ever since I got my phone!=D>

Hope it works for you folks who need it!
