Unfortunately no. Push email has to be set up with a microsoft exchange server. You can try a free push mail solution like mail2web, but you would have to forward your gmail to that new address. I really wish Google would get with it and allow push mail for this damn thing.

I have my gmail setup to foward to my mail2web account to receive push email.

You set it up in Activesync, add a server sorce, once you set up ur mail2web account. Just put in your username as (username@mail2web.com) and ur password for mail2web. The server address is mobile.exchange.mail2web.com

Also check out FlexMail as an Outlook alternative. GMail does actually support a form of push mail called IMAP idle, but Outlook doesn't. FlexMail supports it, and it works pretty well.

Re: Push Gmail

TP does push out the box without an exchange server. Windows Live has push email. I been using it since the Mogul. They should advertise this because this is definately a highlight.

All you have to do is sign up for a hotmail account and have your gmail (or anywhere else) forward to the hotmail account as well. Then go into the settings and make sure the email is set to receive when its delivered.

Some people says it doesn't work for them but they must be doing something wrong. I had this on my mogul, touch and now the Touch Pro. My TP sometimes get the mail faster then the computer.

Hey I'm giving the Windows Live email a try, after using Mail2Web for quite a while. Really hoping it improves my TP's battery life.

One thing I haven't been able to figure out is if I can change my replied-from address. Is this possible? Would be perfect if it looked like it came from my gmail account.

you could try ImapPusherService, I went ahead and started a thread for the app.

setup a gmail account manually in your outlook mobile etc and don't have it schedule sync or anything. Thats the only way I can think of doing it.

If you can get it to work without errors. I keep getting a tmail.exe error and it wants me to send a report... also, you can only set up ONE email address in there. I have 4 IMAP addresses that I want to use.. You lose gmails threading and storage when you use mail2web.

I believe this is the one snag with mail2web, you can't change the replied-from address, and remember that gmail forwarded to that account won't be kept on the gmail server. I have been reading that there's a "pay option" that allows SMTP on the site but I can't find it. I have heard someone mention that they are doing "reverse forwarding" from mail2web, so I wonder if that's how they get the mail to go back to gmail to be archived? I don't know how you'd do that without getting duplicate messages unless maybe you labeled all mail from "mail2web" to be labeled and archived, and not forwarded back to the mail2web account?

If anyone has instructions for this, I'd appreciate it!

And then just copy and paste the email and reply from the gmail account? You can't just select which account to send from, you'd have to just reply from the gmail account without the senders text, right? Then you also would have to do a send/receive to send right? or does outlook send immediately? I haven't noticed because I've been using hotmail and it sends right away.......

Nuevasync uses exchange for your google contacts+calendar, and they tell me push gmail is coming via their service within the next few weeks as well, using IMAP IDLE for gmail. No forwarding, its just straight up working.

Does anyone know if SEVEN makes the touch pro buttons all slow and unresponsive, like it does to the normal touch?

Re: Push Gmail

I use Gmail with checks every 30 minutes and the data connection closes 30 seconds after that. I think this is better than push, which required full time data connection.

Idle data connection doesn't suck much more power than no connection...

It didn't on the Diamond.

I have been using Mobipush for my pushmail. It works, it's taken a couple weeks for it to work reliably. No additional software to install. The only down side is no HTML support which really blows. Other than that, it works and it's free.

Funambol supports google calendar and contacts as well as pushmail. I have found the pushmail to be less reliable though and this one is free but requires install of some software.

Mobipush used to work great then just stopped completely... I really like their 'solution' though-- I am giving it another shot now.

Well, what I have noticed more often then not is that when I first started the service, it worked for a day. Then it started working very intermittently. I would keep removing, reseting and everything. Finally I just left it alone and it's been working fairly consistantly now. It might break again who knows.

I would say it's safe to use if you are not using it for buisness emails. If you are using it for buisness emails then it might not be consistant enough for you. Then again, you probably shouldn't be using gmail for buisness anyway since it doesn't naturally support pushmail. Gmail supports it but they do not have it set to push the mail. The capability is there but it seems like Google has that feature "off".

I actually don't have this setup on my phone because I don't send emails from my phone, I just read 'em.

I BELIEVE when you reply, you CAN pick the email you want to send from if you have multiple email accounts on your Mobile Outlook.

try it out and see what happen ;-)

Re: Push Gmail

Wow.
I manage 3 imap connections from my phone, GMail accounts all forwarded to a single Mail2web account.
I just use Mail2web for when I need push (not all the time, I'm not that important), so I'll get notified, then I go to one of my imap accounts to reply from.
That way I can get up to the second notifications when I need them, but I can also reply with the right email address.
It's an extra step, but I like how it keeps everything organized.

Re: Push Gmail

You can go into your Gmail account setup and set another address as your reply-to. I've done it. I can't recall all the steps but your account name for logging-in can be separate from the displayed "from" address, at least in IMAP. Go in and give it a try, I don't think it's especially difficult to do.

This is what I'm doing now, but if I want to include the text from the person's email, I have to select all, copy, then open up the correct email that I want to respond with, then paste, then put in the contacts name, and send....... is that how you're doing it?

go to the manage folders settings in your inbox view. And then check the Sent Folder... it'll start syncing your sent folder.

I have my "push" gmail working with Live but would really love to know how to setup the imap idle to work instead. Can anyone give any tips on how they set theirs up and how it works imap idle compares with live as far as responsiveness. Which is better battery wise?

Thanks
