Re: A little tough Love about battery issues.

Great post Big D5, there are probably alot of new users who need to read this. The TP battery life is excellent compared to some of the previous WM devices I've had and I think most of that is HTC engineering...cheers!

I exchanged my TP for a new one Saturday. So far, much better battery life and much less heat, especially when it's not in use. Not sure if my first one had a bad battery or what, but this one is way better. Putting tweaks on a bit more slowly this time, but I'm hopeful. Like I said, I really like the phone so far compared to my 6700, but I need the battery to last at least all day with moderate use.

Re: A little tough Love about battery issues.

Hi guys, new member with a HTC Touch Pro on Sprint.

I have no heat issues from what I can tell but I am lucky if I get a full day out of a charge on standby only... no talk time. I have wifi, bluetooth, etc... all turned off. I do have GPS on still.

I compare the battery life to my Treo 700w. Currently my Treo is still running on a charge for 3 days and is still at 50% battery life with bluetooth on. As I said earlier, my TP only lasts 12 hours max with zero talk time.

Is this typical? My standby time seems pretty poor. I read this entire thread and didn't see much as far as what people are expecting for standby time. I saw a few tweaks that are supposed to improve battery time but why is it so much worse than my Treo? I realize my Treo has a larger battery but it will go a week between charges in standby.

Thanks for any info. Like I said, I read the entire thread but still didn't see any reason why standby is sooo poor on the TP. Bigger processor and more memory sure but it shouldn't be as bad as it is right? I've had the Treo for 2 years so I know what to expect from a smart phone running windows mobile.

Can anyone suggest any other tweak to improve battery life or actually reduce power consumption? Is there a list somewhere?

Thanks,

Darren

12-hour standby is ASTOUNDING for the TP.

I expect a WM phone to last about 5 days if you turn off the radio and just sit it on your desk, with no use whatsoever. These things are notoriously bad with batteries.

So much different than my Palm running Mobile 5.x? Sorry, I'm still learning here. My first experience was with my 700w and battery life is incredible with that.

Sorry, I should have said HTC+WM means poor battery life, in general.

We have all sorts of tips/modifications/settings to get our phones just a little bit more power, but in the long-run, these things are just horribly inefficient--even if you aren't using the phone for anything at all.

Re: A little tough Love about battery issues.

I have noticed a definite improvement in battery life since I got my TP about a month ago. It's not a night and day difference but it seems to me like the break-in period is not totally a myth. I end up charging once a day/night unless I have particularly heavy usage but rarely get to the super-low battery level at the end of the day. I surf the web, make a few phone calls, check email and play music. I have wi-fi and push email off, bluetooth off some of the day, and just made sure to disable everything unnecessary.

I have a feeling that battery life didn't REALLY improve, but instead, the GUAGE itself improved in accuracy. When I first got my phone, the battery level dropped quick, but stayed low for a long time before it actually shut off. I think that after time, the system just learns to read the battery level more linearly...

I HIGHLY doubt that.

It was probably the fact that the battery began having a more constant output, so the meter was actually able to read it more accurately.

You keep your GPS Radio on? If you are not using it, it makes no sense to keep it on. This probably is not the same as Wifi, where it goes into a very low-power state, because I am pretty sure GPS uses a lot more power. I'd reccomend you not leaving it on.
