Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
Hi..new user here. Received TP for Xmas and five days later is started acting weird. This morning my TP is now a paper weight!. I turned off the phone last night before bed and attached to charger. Pulsating white light around enter key...looks normal. I wake up this morning and the light is solid white. I can't get the phone to turn on no mattter what I try.
So I drive to three different repair centers and non-one in the centers have even seen a TP. One tech didnt even know how to open it!. One tech pulled the battery and magically got it to boot up. Even thought I tried that many times. So it boots and looks normal so far. I jump in my car and take off. I look down and the phone is frozen. I soft reset. The phone keeps freezing during the TF3D load. Finally it seems to be working and then freezes for the last time. Completely dead. Pull battery many times..no go!. Does not charge at all. I measured the battery voltage a little under 5V. I did notice few times where the phone got rather warm near the ear piece. Its not the battery getting warm but the electronics. The girlfriend purchased the phone NEW from an Ebay seller being that Sprint has been sold out. I called Sprint support and they wont honor the warrenty because It was not purchased through them. I called HTC...their analysis is the phone is defective but they say Sprint should handle the issue. So I call Sprint a few more times hoping to get a different response - no luck. I have the TEP that was transfered from my old phone. So in order to take advantage of TEP, I have to basically break my phone and spend $50.00 to get a replacement for a new 5 day old phone that should be covered under the manufacturers warrenty that no-one will honor. Of course Sprint has no TP in stock so I wouldn't get a replacement anyways! So I'm pretty much screwed here unless I can get the original receipt from the seller because Sprint wants to verify when it was purchased for warranty purposes. I said the phone has only been out for 3 months so the purchased date is meaningless its still under manufacturers warranty!!!! Sprint tells me there are many known issues with the TP. HTC tells me that the Diamond has the issues not the TP. So I sit here looking at this nice looking paper weight...SOL.. ON the funny side...the last app I ran was TomTom with OZZY and I swear right before the phone died OZZY yelled something about the F*KING phone lol! Later..jamz |

When you go into a Sprint repair center, and they verify the defect, then one of 4 things will happen: 1) The tech/rep will try and scare you into leaving, mentioning receipts/etc 2) The rep will issue you a BRAND NEW phone 3) The rep will issue you a used/opened/returned/refurbished phone 4) The rep will ORDER you a replacement phone, which can be new/refurb'd If you have TEP, you have paid for Sprint to honor your original manufacturer warranty, in-person. That's what TEP is for. I purchased my Touch off Craig's List, and it had an issue in the first week or so. I had it replaced, in-store, (a non-repair store, even.) Sure, they tried to give me trouble, because they couldn't see where I purchased it, but I just keep being persistent, and said that it was a gift and that I didn't know. I shouldn't even have to tell them that much, but it makes things go smoother--I recommend trying it. Bottom line, you pay for TEP, and as long as THAT Touch Pro is activated on your account, it is protected. You only pay $50 if you damage it. If it's a design/manufacturing defect, it's FREE, no matter where you bought it from. Keep your chin up, and get Sprint to do right by it's customers. -Steve |
Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
I used to have this problem but after hard resetting it went away for a month or so. Then it happened again last night.
Have people been contacting HTC about this problem? Here's a web form you can fill out, hopefully if enough people speak up they will address the problem. http://www.htc.com/www/CS_Mail.aspx |
Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
I personally contacted HTC 2 nights ago. The rep said that a hard reset usually fixes software glitches, such as freezing, on HTC mobile devices. However, we all know that doesn't work. He also said that I could send my phone in for repair. Worthless!!!!!!!

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
Yeah...I spoke with an HTC tech the other day and he said my DEC/HEX numbers did not sound right when I read them off. He said they should start with a zero. Mine did not. He said it sounds like a refurb even though it was advertised as new. Not sure about that one.
Anyways I boxed mine up and sending to HTC for analysis. Oh well - just like the new model car analogy - you never buy the first year release /model - too many bugs. Seems to apply to phones also. Live and learn! jamz |
Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
I have been getting the freezing the last few nights with the alarm on. Without the alarm on it doesn't seem to have a problem. I'll keep testing. Its funny though because sometimes you can see what time it froze. The other night mine froze at 11:30pm with a 7:30am alarm on.
Could it depend on the rom becuase I am using scrosler's 2nd rom (not the latest), but his first one didn't seem to have this problem. I can't be sure though because I don't remember whether I was setting the alarm. I will try his latest and see if I have the same problem. |
Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
I have a feeling this almost HAS to be ROM related.
I have a Sprint TP that I flashed to the leaked Verizon ROM & activated on my VZ account a few months ago. I have has ZERO problems with it including alarms (& it is absolutely LOADED with programs/add-ons/tweaks etc). When I had my Titan's, I was constantly flashing ROM's etc (I could swear I flashed a new ROM every day for a month once). I keep looking for an excuse to flash this phone to a different ROM (as I LOVE tweaking/troubleshooting etc), but I can't come up with one. This phone is plugged into a cradle every night & has had AT LEAST two alarms set in it every single day I've owned it. I can't say it's NEVER frozen up, but the times it did where my fault & would have happened in any system. The "wake-up" alarm has gone off religiously five days a week, week in & week out ever since I got the thing. ~John |
Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
I would have to agree with you jmorton at least on your last part. I think some roms have certain settings pre-set that stops the lockups, but all in all I think the reliable freezeups people are having is because of something they specifically are or aren't doing. the biggest thing being to uncheck the today timeout. the next biggest thing is to close all running applications before going to bed. (not just the x going into task manager and closing everything manually.)
after that is probably loading tweaks or programs that aren't fully understood which cause lockups under certain conditions. all in all nomatter the rom I have used I have not had a locking up issue since I started making sure that small list is taken care of. but before I understood this, I cannot tell you how many lockups I have had over the years. |
Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
I had mine freeze at night a couple of times, until I uninstalled s2u2. Could that be the culprit? It seems that many folks install it.

Re: TP Locking Up Overnight
The Vogue used to lock up, just like this, on the Stock ROM. It wasn't until we got WM6.1, (even the leaked releases,) that we got some reliability...
Not sure what changed, though. |
