does the tuch pro have a similar app?
Well i dont know if any one has seen the iphone commerical, the one with the urbanspoon application and was wondering if they had some thing similar or the same for the PRO.

Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
could you elaborate more on what this app does?
|
Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
ok well its kinda weird cuz im always indecisive about were my wife and i wanna eat and if you shake your phone it will choose what type of food were it comes from and what restaurant to get it at and where the restaurant is and if its cheap costing or expensive
|
Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?

|
Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
anyone know of a sticky notes application.. that let you set alarms by each sticky note????
|
Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
ahh yes i saw this app on an iphone commercial on tv.. i hope it's ported to windows mobile as i'm always indecisive when it comes to eating out.

Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
hmmmmm mc donalds or taco bell decisions decisions.... (lmao only 2 places close enough for me to go on my half hour lunch break)
|
Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
iPhone apps are more about flash than they are about functionality. I would much rather use GPS software to find places to eat, and get turn by turn directions, rather than shake my phone around to impress people.
And to answer your question, no there isn't an App like that yet, and there probably will never be one for Windows Mobile. There are plenty of applications, even free ones like google maps and windows live search, that you can find restaurants. |
Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
There's no reason we can't have an app like that, just add it on to the new GL Maps application.

Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
aps for the iphone are alot easire to make because the windows based pphones are alot more elaborate. thats why there are like 3000 usless apps for the iphone. like the light saber app. or the lighter app. which is just an animateed lighter you can hold up at a concert. theres a bunch out there. but there are alot of usefull ones aswel which i wish they mad for our phone.. even games! what can we do but wait right? plus why would oyu wanna shake your phone and get suprised with a place to eat. i mean... woudlnt you rather eat something your craving or in the mood for rather then have a phone pic a place for you.. if you wanted better choices, use live search! its a great app! you can select categories>resturants and filter through all kinds of choices. then search by current gps location. itll give you a list and even gps turn by turn directions on how to get there. iphone cant do that. but i know this isnt a topic of if the TP is better then the iphone

Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
More info on the app: http://www.urbanspoon.com/blog/27/Ur...he-iPhone.html
It does use gps and it appears you can filter on price range and style. From the pics it looks like the geographic range might be large, though I don't live in NYC to really know. The novelty, I guess, is the random selection and rating/reviews. Clearly you can call and get directions after you have selected a place. Not saying that it's better than live search, but I don't think it's worse for this particular application either. As much resistance as there is to these kind of apps on WM, I would like something like this, especially if had a "pick from favorites" kind of thing. That and a TD Ameritrade app (of which there are two for iPhone). grrrr |

Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
Iphone commercials make me laugh..lol.
|
Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
That app sounds lame kinda i mean the apple people obviously need their software to tell them what to watch, listen to and what kind of style they should have now apparently they need software to tell them what to eat. Come on man dont be apart of that mindless revolution!

edit: ha, ever date someone that could never help pick a restaurant, but would reject every choice you came up with? this would also come in handy for those situations instead of wasting half an hour just to decide lol |

For you indecisive folks, try flipping a coin or rolling a die.

Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
The whole thing about Urban Spoon is that they even admit they prioritize the chances a certain restaurant will come up. In other words, it is not random. In this way they can get restaurants who want a higher priority to bid for it, generating increased revenue. And everytime restaurant #1 bids for a higher priority, it moves every other restaurant down in priority, forcing them to pay more to keep up.
It's really a brilliant little marketing strategy if it works. But despite the fact that sometimes some people are indecisive, I can't imagine that there is a large need for this type of app...large enough to merit any real profit from it for them. Like most iphone apps, it is a funky little piece of nothing that ultimately is meant to amuse more than to use. Devin |
Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
.... true... but is it so wrong to want to be amused.
|
Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
I need an app like urban spoon to tell me what to drink at the bar and where. "Coors light, Johnny's Pub, 15 beers" or "Jack and Coke, Ruby Tuesdays, until you get IIP charge."

Windows live search, came with your phone.

Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
When I want to decide on where to go I just think of the 1,000 restaurants in the Phoenix area and pick one from my head...
My problem with an app like that is I would end up shaking the darn thing until something came up that I wanted to go to. |
Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
agreed but it would be nice to limit the area and how much money you want to spend to kinda have something point you in the right direction
|
Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
It would be nice if someone could create an app or script or something that would basically put a random input into the Live Search, though. I agree with the people talking about how it is sometimes hard for a group of people to not only think up places to go, but to actually agree on which one to go to. Even without the gimmicky "shake and choose" it would be nice to have a "random restaurant generator".
Yes, could flip a coin, and I've actually done that before, with a friend while we were driving home and couldn't figure out what to eat. We actually made a "tournament" bracket of 16 places that we could think of, and flipped coins to decide the "winners", and eventually came down to a place. Something like this would be nice to automate teh whole thing. |
Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
I totally understand why people would want this app and I think some others are missing the point of what people are asking about and are just focusing their iphone hatred. Yes it is a gimmick, as most apple products are, but you know it is nice sometimes to play with that gimmick. I HATE iphones and ipods and macs, but I have to hand it to them, they appeal to the masses with simple GUI and fun gimmicks that sell. So on to my point about this app. I too sometimes would just like to be a little suprised at what to eat at a given night, and this especially works well with a group of friends or family that all may have a little different cravings. Also on my own too, as sometimes I get bored of food and the things I can think to eat on my own. So given that situation where you really don't know the type of food then instead of using windows live and not being able to narrow down the list (which gave you a list of a hundred restaurants b/c you didn't specify), you may get a cool choice randomly if you had this app. Not dissin windows live but to say that's the endall source to use to me is like sayin complex functionality is best suited for everyone. It would be nice to have a clone program, or better yet make a better one for windows mobile divices so i can walk up to that iphone user and say what *****, your **** is inferior to my similar app!

Re: does the tuch pro have a similar app?
So I guess there hasnt been any more thought put into this by the devs. I would be neat to have a WinMo app that uses either GLmaps or Live Search to find nearby restaurants.
