Re: Major Battery Issue!

the included charger charges at a much slower rate... use the mogul or touch charger, it charges faster... you can see it in nuepower... the included charger sucks because the phone does not see it as an OEM charger that can output 1 amp.

Thanks Holo...Have you tried this out yourself? As in, if your battery is about to die and you plug in the Touch charger it actually charges on without dying? I'm asking this because I have to buy a touch charger from somewhere (ebay) maybe because I didn't own a touch/mogul before...

This has been a known issue for a while now. If your on the phone or using a constant data connection for a long period of time the phone stops charging. Either it's a heat issue or its when the radio is being used constantly the wall charger can't replenish as fast as the touch pro drains. I've had this happen with the charger from my Touch and also with the included charger. Hopefully Htc can come out with a rom update that can address this issue.

Yes, I have a mogul charger from my mogul - it charges much faster. Nuepower will tell you the current draw from the charger and it will draw much more current from the mogul charger (I have not tested the touch charger but I think they shipped with the same one). The fact that it uses a standard usb cable is the source of the problem since there are 5 pins in a mini port and only 4 pins on the regular sized end. The mogul and the pro both use the 5th pin to detect if it is an oem charger and will charge faster if so.

There are some cables actually that will make the mogul and touch pro think that it is hooked up to an oem charger - my friend got one as a charge only cable with a wireless mouse that charged via usb - it won't trigger activesync either. I haven't found a source for ones that will function like this.

My phone is constantly dying while on the charger running iGo 2008, how the hell did this make it out of testing.

Agreed. This has been raised as a concern in so many threads now. The problem is with the radio heating too quickly and tripping the charging mechanism to quit charging. This is a safety issue. If and when Sprint/HTC release a Radio rom update hopefully it won't be a problem anymore.

^try running iGo 2008 when your phone radio is turned off and see if it charges.

Re: Major Battery Issue!

It IS the heat causing the cutoff. You can easily prove this with nuePower. It gets hot, the charge current drops to zero and the 'pulsing' notification light stops. Put it in front of a fan, or air conditioner, hell - take the back cover off and blow on the battery - the light begins pulsing again, nuePower indicates charging again...

You can further prove this by loading up WmWiFiRouter. Connect to the device and start a major download or start streaming videos. Let the device heat up and stop charging. Let it get real hot, the charger wont supply while its hot. Then apply cool/cold air to the phone and in no time at all, charging will continue again.

It sucks... but seems to be just the way it is with this phone...

That is not going to be an acceptable fix for hardly anyone. I hope they are able to fix whatever the problem is in the next 20 days or I'd venture to guess they get a lot of returns. On the plus side, at least winter is coming up? :\

My treo 700 had the same issue, if my battery was dieing, if I was on the phone it would charge slower than discharge during the call.

Today I went though a whole charge with wifi on this morning, the at about 1pm I turned of wifi and barely used any charged the rest of today. I am not a big talker on the phone preferring quick conversations, IM an texting. So I am not the normal user.

im having a great response from my battery. maybe i just got lucky. but i took my phone off the charger around 1 p.m. and its 12:33 a.m. right now. i just put it back on the charger and i have 80 percent battery life. I made about 6 or 7 5 minute-ish calls, maybe 50 texts, and browsed the internet on my break. this is leaps and bounds better than than my touch. my touch would never last an entire day for me :-\
