Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail

Has anyone found a thread that shows how to personalize the notifications for SMS,MMS and email. I think this is the only thing I don't like about the phone. I can change anything else but that. Help anyone?

Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail

There's nothing built into Windows Mobile to handle this, unfortunately. It's something I've kind of wanted, as well.

If by personalize you mean record your own then yes you can do that. If you open Notes and then click on Menu and View Recording Toolbar and record something it should show up in your list of available notifications. I had my girlfriend say "Message" and "Email" and set those up. Now I never get confused by the notifications!

Yeah, I have no idea what you mean if it is sounds you can change them in settings/sounds and notifications.

Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail

I assumed the person meant to set custom sounds for specific people, just like personalized ringtones for each contact. Was I incorrect?

Really? I thought he meant change the look/text of the notification pop-ups which look like a sore thumb plastered up on top of TouchFlo.

Maybe OR78 is looking for a "phonealarm" type of program ...the question is not very detailed.

I have done this using Phone Alarm pro. it is so nice. try it out youll love it. It also allows you to get the default home screen back as well as minilla. its similiar to second today with more features

One thing I liked about my old phone was that the vibrate pattern could be personalized for different things. I would know if I was getting a text, a phone call, or a voicemail without having to dig the phone out of my pocket.

Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail

Since I confused everyone let me elaborate. What I meant by personalize is to use downloaded ringtones(mp3,wma etc.). You can change the ringtone for incomming calls from individual people but you cannot change the tone to a custom tone for email or MMS or SMS alerts. You have to use the default tones. I want to change this. Does this clear up the confusion?

Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail

Yes you can change these.
Goto Start/Settings/Sounds & Notifications
Then click the "Notifications" tab at the bottom.
Then select what you want to change from the drop-down menu.

This is what I mean though. If you select email, you can only select the preset tones not a downloaded ringtone.

That's because notifications aren't compatible with mp3 files. You can download a wav file and use that.

OK to further elaborate.....If you have a Touch Pro, go to Notifications, select the event that says Messaging: New email messages. No select the ringtone. If you can select something other than the default tones please explain to me how you did it. wav mp3 mp4.....nothing works for me.

Really? I didnt know this. Thanks for that. Is it case sensitive?

*EDIT*

When i tried this it would let me change the sound for ringtones but not for sms/email
To do that it has to be in the root of my SD card.....

Okay, forget what I said about mp3's not working. On my mogul, I couldn't get mp3 ringtones to work for email/text, but I just remembered how to get this exactly like you need it. ALL of the OEM ringtones/alert sounds are in the WINDOWS folder on your device.

Easy way to make sure the device identifies them is copy whatever wav or mp3 tone you want for text or email notification, open Total Commander (or file explorer), use the tree to get in the WINDOWS folder on your device, paste the mp3 or wav file in the Windows folder.

Done. Now you can go to your settings tab and be able to use it as a notification for email/text or whatever else.

This works as well... However i find it much easier to leave them in the root of your storage card as they are persistent between master resets

Can you elaborate how you do this for the storage card. I may not have done it right.

Ok I have discover that the system will only support WMA files and you are very correct, the files have to be stored in the windows/rings files. It sucks that it has to be done this way but hey I can live with it. Thanks to all for the help and ideas.

My MP3 notifcations work just fine. I put the ringtones in /my documents/my ringtones and I put the notifications in /windows

it's always been that way.

That's not true. I tested with a MP3 ringtone. It's the name of the file that needs to be shortened in order to identify it properly.

System supports wav and mp3 for alerts.

Root of the storage card meaning not in any subfolders, correct?

In other words, open storage card and have the ringtones/alerts showing immediately when you access the storage card? I'm going to try that also because I'd rather not take up extra drive space on my actual machine (and leave that to programs/cabs/etc...).

Only do this if you don't care about the data on your card. This is exactly how you corrupt the card. You don't want basic things like ringtones/background images being read from the card. Too much conflict with power-saving modes/etc.

You have been warned. ;)

Good 'bit of information to know. Wasn't aware of that. I'll keep that in mind as well.

Alarmpal. Try it out. I like it because it will repeat alerts in case you didn't hear it the first time, have different alerts for different events, and can schedule it to shutup at night.

Have you ever owned a PPC before? It makes perfect sense. If the card is being routinely accessed for data like backgrounds, ringtones, and other data, you can run into SD card corruption.

Read through the Touch/Mogul forum if you don't believe me. Card corruption is a VERY common problem...

So that this discussion doesnt get off track any further, the solution is this. In order to have your own ring tones rather than the default for email and text messages, first the rigns have to be in wav. format. Also if you save the tones in the root of the card they can be used. I guess this is the best solution for now. It works so far.

Not true. MP3 works great, and always has.

I can see why people might want to keep their ringtones on their SD card, but I have ALWAYS copied all 100 of my individual ringtones to /my documents/my ringtones and I always have tons of programs installed, never to the sd card, and I have never once came close to running out of space, even on my Touch.

I guess people won't learn until they find out the hard way, but hey, if you can use the SD card with no problems, then be my guest.

Would you put a critical part of Windows XP on a USB hard disk? That's how I would compare it. No, you wouldn't, because USB has different power allocations, and it gets shutdown at various times.
