Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail
Has anyone found a thread that shows how to personalize the notifications for SMS,MMS and email. I think this is the only thing I don't like about the phone. I can change anything else but that. Help anyone?

Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail
There's nothing built into Windows Mobile to handle this, unfortunately. It's something I've kind of wanted, as well.

Thanks. If anyone finds something to change this please post when possible.

Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail
I assumed the person meant to set custom sounds for specific people, just like personalized ringtones for each contact. Was I incorrect?

Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail
Really? I thought he meant change the look/text of the notification pop-ups which look like a sore thumb plastered up on top of TouchFlo.

Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail
One thing I liked about my old phone was that the vibrate pattern could be personalized for different things. I would know if I was getting a text, a phone call, or a voicemail without having to dig the phone out of my pocket.

Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail
Since I confused everyone let me elaborate. What I meant by personalize is to use downloaded ringtones(mp3,wma etc.). You can change the ringtone for incomming calls from individual people but you cannot change the tone to a custom tone for email or MMS or SMS alerts. You have to use the default tones. I want to change this. Does this clear up the confusion?

Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail
Yes you can change these.
Goto Start/Settings/Sounds & Notifications Then click the "Notifications" tab at the bottom. Then select what you want to change from the drop-down menu. |

This is what I mean though. If you select email, you can only select the preset tones not a downloaded ringtone. |

OK to further elaborate.....If you have a Touch Pro, go to Notifications, select the event that says Messaging: New email messages. No select the ringtone. If you can select something other than the default tones please explain to me how you did it. wav mp3 mp4.....nothing works for me. |
Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail
it works for me... just put all my sounds in mp3 format at the root of my sd card....

Easy way to make sure the device identifies them is copy whatever wav or mp3 tone you want for text or email notification, open Total Commander (or file explorer), use the tree to get in the WINDOWS folder on your device, paste the mp3 or wav file in the Windows folder. Done. Now you can go to your settings tab and be able to use it as a notification for email/text or whatever else. |

Can you elaborate how you do this for the storage card. I may not have done it right. |
Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail
Ok I have discover that the system will only support WMA files and you are very correct, the files have to be stored in the windows/rings files. It sucks that it has to be done this way but hey I can live with it. Thanks to all for the help and ideas.

you might want to try this...it could work. |
Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail
My MP3 notifcations work just fine. I put the ringtones in /my documents/my ringtones and I put the notifications in /windows
it's always been that way. |

System supports wav and mp3 for alerts. |

In other words, open storage card and have the ringtones/alerts showing immediately when you access the storage card? I'm going to try that also because I'd rather not take up extra drive space on my actual machine (and leave that to programs/cabs/etc...). |

Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail
Alarmpal. Try it out. I like it because it will repeat alerts in case you didn't hear it the first time, have different alerts for different events, and can schedule it to shutup at night.

Read through the Touch/Mogul forum if you don't believe me. Card corruption is a VERY common problem... |
Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail
So that this discussion doesnt get off track any further, the solution is this. In order to have your own ring tones rather than the default for email and text messages, first the rigns have to be in wav. format. Also if you save the tones in the root of the card they can be used. I guess this is the best solution for now. It works so far.

Not true. MP3 works great, and always has. I can see why people might want to keep their ringtones on their SD card, but I have ALWAYS copied all 100 of my individual ringtones to /my documents/my ringtones and I always have tons of programs installed, never to the sd card, and I have never once came close to running out of space, even on my Touch. I guess people won't learn until they find out the hard way, but hey, if you can use the SD card with no problems, then be my guest. Would you put a critical part of Windows XP on a USB hard disk? That's how I would compare it. No, you wouldn't, because USB has different power allocations, and it gets shutdown at various times. |
Re: Personalized Notifications for SMS,MMS,E-mail
well I downloaded a trial program of Ringo Mobile from the sprint windows mobile website that allows you to do so...luckily for me I found a way to keep downloading it for free when it expires as long as the file is still on ur phone.just reinstall it...the bad thing is u hv to do it once a week.
