repair damaged pro (scratches)

Any advice on how to touch up on a pro that was damaged from being dropped?

The chrome is scuffed a bit as well sa the battery cover in a small area.

Should I sand it a bit in those areas and get paint from a hobby store?

hmmm really. my esn is exactly in that range, right at the bottom. Should I go through sprint or directly to HTC? Thanks!

Wow! Nice info to know. You would think its users fault since the user dropped it.

Umm... it's supposed to withstand damage when being dropped from 5 feet? Was that a joke post?

Hopefully it doesnt shatter like glass from 5 feet, but my expectation is that these things are fragile. Get a wrist strap people!

hmm I actually went into the sprint store today before i read this bc i got a crack in mine on the chrome bezel and also the chrome has chipped off in another area, they told me physical damage call asurion i was like thats to little damage for 50deductable. maybe i should go back or another sprint and ask about this mine fits in this window of esn / MEID

anyone have anything more descriptive or some proof that way i can bring it in?

Sorry but i just have to ask, whats an ESN? My phone just fell out of my pocket a few hours ago and the chrome on the bottom left is chipped pretty bad with two deep scratches on the screen (luckily its just on the screen protector).

esn is "like" the serial number it what sprint uses to activate a phone and know what phone you have atleast one of them. check the MEID on the box or dial ##786# for the MEID (hex) if your looking for the number that corresponds with the effected TPs

You drop the phone, it's your own fault....lol, I have dropped everyphone I have owned and each one has suffered scuff marks. If you drop it and scratch the phone, goto AUTO-ZONE, get some chrome striping.

Re: repair damaged pro (scratches)

I'm sorry, I still think that "Sprint Email" is fake. There is no way they would do a silent recall on devices for suffering cosmetic damage when being dropped from "ear level." It's kind of obvious you're not to do that.

I agree....it's like buying a new car/truck.....take it down the road and a rock truck ahead drops a rock and hits your hood and scratches it. Do you think the dealer is gonna give you a new truck? Or let alone fix it free? I think not. If you have TEP, then you would pay the 50 bucks and get a new one, that would be the only recourse. But Like I said, you drop it, it's your fault...period...not sprint's, not HTC's, but yours....I'm all for getting a great deal, and maybe even lying a lil bit to get even a better deal, but dropping it and saying BLAH BLAH BLAH, I want a new one, BLAH BLAH BLAH is flat out stealing.

Baffles 11-07-2008 06:27 PM

Re: repair damaged pro (scratches)

Hell, since when will Sprint swap a device under TEP for cosmetic issues only (without deductible)?

eb3604 11-07-2008 06:47 PM

Re: repair damaged pro (scratches)

If you were to drop any phone from 5 feet it would crack, break etc. secondly, the average person's ear is not 5 feet from the ground. it's more like 5'4"-5'8" (women-men)

also if the chrome has some light scratches, try some brasso. I used it on my ipod and an razr2 to polish it up. looks good as new

Re: repair damaged pro (scratches)

got bored today had the day so i took shot, and went to the sprint store, asked them about a recall and the hostess or whatever called the tech and asked, and they havent heard of this "recall" about chipping in the chrome bezel and there werent any TPs to exchange anyways sold out in all of san antonio. should help squash the rumors

slammedtahoeon22 11-07-2008 07:31 PM

Re: repair damaged pro (scratches)

i stopped by a sprint repair center today, to check for a holster for my touch pro, and with out me even asking, the repair floor manager informed me of the cosmetic recall, she stated that she recieved a memo to exchange any touch pro with any chrome damage from being dropped. it even said damage from being dropped from ear level.

gator352 11-07-2008 07:40 PM

Re: repair damaged pro (scratches)

I called CSR, retentions, and a sprint repair center. They have never heard of a cosmetic recall....they did however stated that if you have damage...any damage....that TEP (with 50 buck deductible) would replace the phone.

I work in a service and repair store for Sprint, I got this email. It's true the first 49,000 devices have this issue. At first I was shocked we were going to do this for cosmetic issues.... but I know why now... I dropped mine from like 2 feet and the chrome across the whole top of mine if cracked off and I have huge dents. seriously like 2 FEET! I'm going to call HTC first because I don't think my manager will let me do it because of inventory. ITS TRUE!

The company I work for makes rugged notebooks and we do drop tests from 3+ feet onto plywood over concrete. I'm impressed, Sprint seems to be very generous here.

Re: repair damaged pro (scratches)

I feel bad for Sprint loosing so many customers and cash. Everyone is better off having Sprint around to compete against Verizon and Apple (err, I mean ATT).

But that isn't going to stop me from swapping mine when the new stock comes in! I'm still peeved about the early termination fee I paid back in 1999.

Can I be your tester? I drop pretty much everything I own from any number of heights. Best one was a piano from 6 stories.

probably wanna remove your esn from your post... I am going with the conclusion that the recall is bull, at least for scratches or from dropping the phone. If you have issues and you have tep, take it in, see what they will do. If you are within 30 days, call sprint and ask for them to exchange it.

let's not get ahead of ourselves here. we're not talking about $30K trucks, we're talking about $300 phones. and automobiles do have recalls. http://www.nextautos.com/recall-defe...f-smart-fortwo if it comes from the factory flawed, of course they will do a recall. and if the company htc contracted to manufacture the phones used a flawed production technique or materials, then they should and will have to do a recall, phone dropped or not.

and yes, it's something as trivial as paints, such as the chrome paint on our phones if you really want to compare apples to oranges.

oh, side note, i did drop my phone right outside the bb store (i was so excited, i couldn't wait and opened the box and the phone fell out) and i kept it awhile, i read about this supposed email (it does sound fake, but i called the sprint store and i don't know if they were mocking me but she did say that they know about it and to bring it in but they didn't have anymore in stock to exchange it with) so i went back to bb and got a new phone (this time i waited until i got into the car to open the box).

so, i cannot verify that the sprint store will replace it on the spot, but i did get confirmation that they know about this "email" but again, she might have mocked me.

What if there are other issues with the phones other than the crack and they're just using it as an excuse to pull back particular ESN's?

I wonder why the first batch of most highly expected consumer electronics usually come out with a huge flaw, RROD anyone? anyway, i got fed up with my cracked, scratched, chipped, raised call button, overheating, reset hungry Touch Pro is going back to Sprint store to get exchanged.

i agree, i mean 2 feet is one thing but from ear level? theyre just costing themselves money with that one. People are going to purposely abuse their phones and purposely do excessive swaps when they know that, as evidenced by some users in here

I mean wow, what a difficult concept- you drop something on concrete or a hard surface like a fragile PPC it gets chipped or breaks, no way. This thing is NOT meant to be a rugged device like a Nextel. You wouldnt drop you lcd TV or your normal run of the mill laptop from 2 or 3 ft in a parking lot and not expect it not to have damage, cosmetic at the least. You guys act like Sprint owes you because you screwed up and had an accident with the device- its sickening. Be an honest person.

agree i went though 4 the first 2 weeks the phone was out. Eventually got fed up and said screw this im not spending $250+2years on this thing made like a piece of junk. And these werent even little nitpicking flaws like some people find in this forum, these were completely obvious ones like the dpad being raised prob about 2mm, 2 earpieces that sounded completely blown out and couldnt understand anyone, etc. I dont think a halfway decent one was too much to ask for for a $579 phone

Re: repair damaged pro (scratches)

For the people that bought theirs from best buy:

I took mine in for several reasons (loose screen, crappy battery life, chrome chipping). They asked one question: Are you within the 30 day return period. I was on day 29 so they exchanged it, no questions asked!!

They even let me keep the original 1gig card, splitter cable and carrying case (I forgot to bring them in). Also, they let me keep the battery:)

Hope this helps, if it does, you know what to click:)
