Just dug the thing out again and nothing I do will hard reset the device. I start with the phone off, hold pwr,vol dwn, and enter and still no go. Do all the above with a reset, no go.

The phone was all the way off? Like hold power until it says yes or no and pressed yes and it shut completely off?

Damned thing finally hard reset after about 100 attempts. I think the sequence of keys was important. I believe I did vol dwn, ent, then pwr.

Now we'll see if it fixes the volume issue.

isn't doing a "1-2-3-4" in clear storage the same as holding down all the keys??
