Took phone into Sprint and they fixed my keyboard which had completely failed. Not sure what they did but it seems to be working fine now after less than 30 minutes spent with the tech. Of Course I flashed back to the Sprint Stock before returning and Flash backed to MR5 when I got it back. I am expecting it to stop again at some point, so we'll see, it has been fine for the last few hours.

me too.

'Cept alltel insists on sending you a replacement refurb unit to correct the problem. My first was for a bad screen... Second would boot into bootloader every time and not recieve calls, my current has this intermittent keyboard issue. Oh yeah, my first was on the 30th of last month. This has been both constant and immediate.

After the next phone (en route) I may finally get to go into a store and get a new one... I wish I had the deal you do with sprint.

Anywho, just a differnet perspective on the same issue.

Just came back from the Sprint store to get my pullout keyboard fixed. Had same problems as others. Took about a week for it to go entirely out. They replaced the keyboard and so far it is working fine. We will see how long it lasts.

I'm on my 4th or 5th one for the year with keyboard issues. Good thing the sprint store is just a couple mins away. I just wish I could get a phone that I could keep for at least 3 months without a keyboard issues. Its been going back to the Mogul phone, the keyboard worked but had multiple letter issues.

Add another to the list. Keyboard started acting flaky last night. Did a hard reset today, no change. Guess I'll be heading off to the Sprint store tomorrow.

I have the solution to the problem with the slide out keyboard on the SPRINT htc touch pro which just stopped working all of a sudden.

The problem is caused by the inserted storage card, it is likely you have uninstall and reinstalled a lot of programs on the storage card. format the storage card and remove the card, reset phone to factory settings, re insert card and your keyboard should work again. THERE IS NO NEED TO GO RUNNING TO SPRINT REPAIR OR GO THROUGH ANY HAZZLES. This will work - I promise.

Just had my keyboard replaced yesterday at the Sprint store. The repair tech said he had spent several hours on the phone the day before with a HTC rep about how many keyboard failures they were beginning to see and the HTC rep told him they were aware of the issue and were modifying the way the connectors were attached on the circuit board on Touch Pros currently being made.

This has nothing to do with the hardware of the phone, and since mine and most other peoples problems on here have been hardware I don't see how this would work.

One fix that worked for me was to pinch the keyboard while slid out at the space bar. I would recommend trying to have a sprint store fix it first though, cuz hey, it's free and it could come back.

This is bull****, my ****ing keyboard went out.

Anyone know if sprint will replace without the stupid $7/mo insurance?

I just got my phone about 6 months ago so not sure if this problem falls in the 1yr thing.

It's been acting up for a month, first couple times soft reset worked, then it took hard resets, now it's completely fooked.

I second that, the statement about the SD card is false. The reason for your keyboards going out is pressure overtime on the spacebar, the ribbon cable running from the keyboard to the circuit board is directly under the keyboard and it attaches to the keyboard their as well, pressure overtime causes the ribbon to fail. Another "theory", (which I haven't found to be true in most cases, but its possible) is that the ground contacts on the circuit board for the keyboard have been bent and aren't making contact to ground the keyboard, which causes it to fail, or be intermittent. This is unusual, as the only way to get this to happen is to somehow jar them enough to bend them or just a factory defect. So the SD Card theory is false! NEVER seen this happen, not sure how a faulty SD Card would cause hardware like this to fail.

Have you had any issues with keys "sticking?" Not physically, just getting things like "What are yooooooooou doing?" etc. If so, you have a hardware issue with your keyboard and you need to go to the sprint store and deal with them stealing your phone for a half hour or more just so they can tell you that you need a new one. I'm on my fourth touchpro since May. Grrr...

My keyboard started to go out about a week ago.

I am totally freaking out because I'm one of those Sprint->Verizon ebay phone guys. I have no insurance...I'm just hoping for this phone to hold on until the next gen comes out (skipping TP2).

anyhoo! looks like the "Hard Spacebar" solution seems to work for me.

my keyboard hasn't worked for a couple weeks or so. the hard spacebar temp fix works now that i try it. Hopefully sprint will give me a brand new one when i get it replaced tonight. how long does the hard spacebar usually work for?

mine stopped working this past weekend..i tried sfot resets, hard resets, re-flashing to sprint stock rom..nothing worked..definitely hardware.

Im about to run to the sprint store..see what they can do. I'll report back.

well the sprint technician said its totally kaput..and said that because my case was hardcore cracked (I dropped it once) they would charge some $120 repair fee or whatever, so he said just go through insurance instead...so I called the insurance and they charge $100 to replace phone.

Thats pretty crazy considering the keyboard failure wasnt my fault, and happened only 7 months into owning the thing. WTF :(

If it's Hardware based how does a soft reset fix it? Mine just started acting up this week. Hard Spacebar press didn't help but a soft reset does.

From what I remember a soft reset was a placebo effect with mine. It would seem to help, but it didn't. After a while nothing helped and it died completely.

Soft reset definately brings it back. I was also careful not to move the TP when I did the reset as to try and have as little physical effect as I could. I hope it is a software issue that can get resolved...at least until Verizon gets the TP2.

Man, I wish I had found this thread last week....my kb is having all the symptoms described here and I was sure it was a software problem. I flashed 4 different ROMs, including stock, hard reset them all and systematically uninstalled all my cabs to test for software conflicts. I thought I was going crazy! Just like the rest of you my keyboard issues are very intermittent and sometimes a soft reset works, sometimes not.
Guess I'm getting a new phone.....

we get about 3-4 TP's a week in our store with bad keyboards. My brothers just stopped working a few days ago..

I am on my 3rd; 2 new ones and a refurb. I have had the refurb for 24hrs. Keyboard is now dead. Ugh.

I would have to say yes cuz a while back I installed the same thing and by buttons stopped responding. After uninstalling, everything was good.

Glad I found this. Mine was occasionally failing, then after flashing the latest MightyROM it failed completely. Switched to Juicy with no improvement, then stock and it worked. Went back to Mighty and it worked great for about a week, then failed again, occasionally functioning. Now it hasn't worked in over a week. Just tried the spacebar "fix" which worked, for now, which helps confirm it's definitely a hardware issue.

For those who brought it in for repairs, any of you running custom ROMs? Did they give you any trouble, or did you have to flash back to stock first?

I am on my fourth TP & getting ready to go back in for the fifth all in a matter of 3-4 months time. The second one I got went out within a week. Soft resets would sometimes fix it & sometimes removing & replacing the battery would temporarily fix it. The problem is the ribbon cable attaching the keyboard to the phone simply wears out.
I never had this problem with my Mogul so I really hope the TP2 solves this problem.
Aside from the keyboard issue, I really love the TP & have not found a comparable phone to replace it.

Well, I'm having the same issue. I purchased the phone 3 days ago from a 3rd part 'cell repair' store that does flashes, etc.

I purchased a brand-new HTC Touch Pro 2, still in the box. They flashed it to Cricket and I left. I was a little nervous about the "All Sales are Final" sign posted behind their counter, but whatever.

I paid 229 for it. Last night, my keyboard stopped functioning, along with the front keys (all but the hang up button) and my volume rocker.

Powered off from top button, fixed. . . 2 hours later. . . keyboard stops working again. . . Powered it off, still not working.

Soft reset - fixed.

Went to bed after that. Woke up, keyboard not working. Powered it off - worked. Sent one text message successfully and then viola'. . . not working.

Powered off - didn't work.

Soft Reset - didn't work.
Soft Reset again - worked.

I've soft reset my phone 5-6 times this morning and it has fixed it all but that one time.

I went through and uninstalled every single 3rd party app that I had. Keyboard stopped working.

Soft Reset - fixed.

It's been about an hour now. . . we'll see what happens.

What I'm afraid of is my keyboard screwing up major because I don't have a Sprint store to run to and I can't hard reset my phone without having to take the damned thing back to the guy to pay him 20 bux to flash it again.

If any of you know a way to flash cricket for talk/text/mms/web then please, show me the way.

But, it looks as if this is a hardware problem. If it happens again I'll be pinching the fork out of it to see what happens.

I'm very upset. I'll keep my blackberry close by just in case.
