Silly Question?
 

I got my Touch Pro from Best Buy on Friday. My phone has a 1" piece of clear tape on the right side of the phone covering a part on the back between the display and keyboard - anyone else have this on their pro? What is it for?

Go right ahead and peel that sucker off. The plastic on the camera needs to come off as well.

I peeled the factory plastic film off and the plastic film over the camera. But this third piece is weird, its not really protecting anything. :dontknow:

Best buy removed all my plastic, and it is a good thing because I would have left it on until it feel off trying to keep it pristine. By them removing it, it saved me the hassle of dealing with it and the disappointment when it fell off, heh.

Anyone else have a little piece of tape on the under side of their display?
 

Erhm, I mean TAPE lol.

If so.. is it ok to remove it? I have one on the under side of my display, and is much more visible when the keyboard is out...

Seems like a silly question, but I am paranoid as all hell with this thing!

if you side the keyboard out youll see its just astetic, you can peel it off

I just used a razor blade and cut it on a seam so you couldn't see it when it was closed. I noticed the ribbon was marking the tape so I thought I would protect it as long as possible.

Humm. I was wondering what this was for as well. I do see some scratch marks in mine now. I guess there is something under there, or maybe the tape is making it too thick to slide freely. How many of you left it and how many pealed it off?

I took it off its really not there for anything maybe to protect when shipping

Exactly! You're going to want to remove it so the keyboard slides out a lot nicer. I was wondering WTF was making my keyboard so stuff, and when I looked I saw it after the 2nd day I had my pro. I took it off and all is good! It isn't there for any other reason besides holding it in place while shipping.

honestly .. my girl made this point to me while i was asking myself what the effer it was ... and it seems like a wonderful explanation of so it doesnt scratch the back of ur phone while sliding out ... SO LEAVE IT BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE :thumbright:

It's just for during shipping. Completely removable. Ever set up a new printer? They're covered with shipping reinforcement tape.

Yep i cut it with a razor and left the rest in the back of the screen. I dont think its hendering the sliding action.

Mine scrapes a little when it is sliding. Has anyone who removed it noticed any scratches on the back after it slides where it moves?

I took mine off right away, I think if it was designed to permanently stay there, they would have used something other than tape.

like what? A thin piece of protective film, or wait isnt that tape?

Looking at mine it appears to have alot of wear. Either I remove it and the keyboard slides out easier or it will continue to rub against the backside of the phone. Considering how thin the tape is I will leave it for now because I bet it will wear down the backside of the screen

i remember on the mogul there were pieces of tape on the edges of the keyboard.
i didn't notice those were removeable for quite some time.
once i figured it out they were gone

What does it protect during shipping? I removed when I first got the phone.

Personally I am keeping mine on there, as it seems it was added there as an after thought to protect that area from scraping up and getting worn via sliding. It also seems to take up the gap between the two halves.

Good point, however printers, appliances, etc always tell you were the tape is to remove. I don't believe HTC has indicated this info anywhere.

Touch Pro question
 

Did you guys/gals leave the piece of tape that came with the touch pro in the back of it? When you slide the keyboard open, on the back of the phone is a piece of tape that wraps around to the chrome side of the phone. I took mine off and noticed that from opening/closing the sliding keyboard, it leaved a scratch. I went ahead and reinstalled a piece of tape so the scratch (wear mark) doesn't get worse. I didn't like the fact that the tape wrapped around the phone.

Mine never had one on it, either that or the guy at BB removed it. No wear marks that I've noticed, then again it is underneath so I don't really care.

I removed mine.

There's no sign of any scratches or scuffs where the tape was.

Are you sure something else didn't cause it?

I was wondering about that tape myself. I think its there to prevent physical scratches from the kb being slid back and forth. I was going to remove it the other day but then I saw that it was scuffed up a bit. So i figure I would leave it. And if I decide to sell it down the road.. then I will remove it and it will look like new.

I think you're all nuts. 4 pages in this thread over who removed the packing tape? LOL

If it were meant to stay there, it wouldn't wrap up around the chrome trim. Look at all the photos of this phone, none of them have that peice of tape there.

If it truly bothers you so much, just remove it, then cut some scotch tape to size and replace it.
