Using GPS abroad?

I'm getting the TP as soon it comes out with Sprint, but I was just wondering if I would be able to use it abroad (mostly Europe). From my experience the qualcomm chips these babies come with have standalone GPS capabilities, right? How would one go about accessing that chip in order to change that option?

Perhaps that can even serve as a temporary fix for those suffering from GPS lag?
