Battery & Performance hacks - all cabed up for my friends

1 Attachment(s)
with all the flashing of roms and what not i figured i would share my cab.

this is a few reg edits that were found on a few sites. here is the main one... http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=127164

ppc link here... http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...=battery+hacks

this all started on the Q but works on many WM devices. i have been running it on my mogul for quite a while. works great.

this is what is changes...

(copied and pasted)
Speed Hacks

These have been posted elsewhere but the 3rd one listed here is never mentioned and often left out. A shame since it seems to have the most effect!

The following 3 hacks increase system performance and makes the Q more responsive:

Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\
Changed limit from 16384 to 32768

Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS
Changed - CacheSize to 4096

(NEW!) Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\StorageManager\Filters\f sreplxfilt
Change “ReplStoreCacheSize” dword decimal value to 4096 or 8192 (edit: I find 4096 best, g-funk finds 8192)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battery Life

A couple of us have tested this and found a nice increase in battery life. On my Treo 700 it seemed to do nothing but on the Q it greatly helped (I ran for 12 hours yesterday push email in a low signal environment and stayed at 4 bars battery--normally would have been at 2 or 3)

Just clck on the .cab file inside your phone and your set. PPC .cab = PC .msi in a way.

Installed.

No noticable performance increase.

Hosed the loading of Voice Command, get a little error now when restarting.

Havn't used long enough to notice a battery difference.

I will give this a try in the next day or so... my stock Sprint TP is worse than my Touch on battery life, so far, with the same software/configurations...

Just checked my stock TP. All of the changes for the battery life are now defaults.

There is no settingfor Irsir1 in the touch pro. just Irsir and that does not contain the disablepowermanangement key

Pro doesn't have IR, so that makes perfect sense.

This tweak worked great. I did it on my Pro, and not my girlfriends. We took our phones off the charger at the same time about 1pm. I was on the internet and doing more than her. She did get on a few times though. By about 8 - I still had all 4 bars of my battery life, she had only 2.

Putting it on her phone now!

I went ahead and downloaded it and installed it now. I'm going to be testing it to see how it stacks up, I'll report back tomorrow after a full day of use...

Re: Battery & Performance hacks - all cabed up for my friends

Just installed the battery hack, but I'm not too optimistic; according to nuePower, my discharge with the screen off is still 113mA. On a 1340mAh battery, that's roughly 11-12 hours of power. A few seconds after the screen turns on, the drain jumps to 157mA. This isn't looking good...

Please, the battery life blows! I had an issue yesterday which the battery was nto charging, which i had to do a soft reset (turn if off and on).

I incorporated all the advanced configuration battery performance options and have not seen any significant increase in performance. Are these improvements the same as the ones changed by this cab?

On my Touch Pro...I put in the changes for power management and battery indicator time. 1.5 hours of talking and I'm down to 2 bars.

4.5 hours of talk time my a$$.
This really, really sucks. It's like putting a 5 gallon tank in the latest model Corvette.

Interestingly-enough, the latest corvette, with the LS7 engine, gets 27MPG on the highway.

Not bad at all for a near-supercar.

Any news to report on the performance of the cab?

I just searched the registry using Resco for "DisablePowerManagement" and there were actually 3 or 4 other locations not mentioned in this thread with that key, so I changed them all to 0. I'll report back after a couple days of use to see how it compares.

I did not see a hugh difference but a little better preformance. At this point, I am not sure if it becasue my battery is getting to a point where the charging of the battery is increasing the performance or peformance is from these hacks.

Overall performance has increased since I got my pro two weeks ago.

Re: Battery & Performance hacks - all cabed up for my friends

Until HTC releases a firmware update that has a more efficient radio ROM, I found a better solution for improving battery life. It's a annoying to have to use it, but oh well.

For those that live on the fringes of EVDO reception or have poor / intermittent EVDO reception otherwise, it's best to disable EVDO altogether and go with 1xRTT only.

Here is the Registry edit for enabling Hidden Phone Settings "Mode of Operation" option to pick 1X mode only.

HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting

Change the option HiddenModeOperationPage from 1 to 0

Then go to Phone/menu/option/service/and check in the list, "Mode of Operation" should be at the bottom. You have 3 choices, Hybrid, EVDO, and 1X.
Once you have checked the box and hit ok, you will need to soft reset, and then the phone should switch to 1x only. (Not sure if a soft reset is necessary, but it does survive a soft reset).

It's a bit of a hassle, but at least it's a Settings Menu option you can toggle back and forth between.

Until Sprint puts EVDO back on the tower nearest to me or puts out an Airave that supports EVDO, this 1X only setting is the best solution right now.

Good thinking, I did the same thing and set them all to "0". If I keep my talking on the phoneto less than 2 hours, I make it through the day. I talked about an hour today and the phone is still at 50%. Off charge at 8:00am and it's now almost 7:00pm. I think the extra power management changes helped. As long as I don' talk, the battery doesn't really go down noticably. It did before.

So, if we can get a bigger battery, I think I'll keep this. I actually like being able to tell the phone to do things by voice and having the success rate be even better than when I ask my children to do something...

Ouch! This is like taking that Vette w/ the 5 gallon tank and removing 4 spark plugs to improve the range.

My battery almost never makes it through a day without having to recharge. Pretty weak imho (pun intended).

Seriously, wtf is up with the battery... took it off charge at 3pm, by 7pm it was down to 10%, made a couple 1-2 minute phone calls... have push email set up... how can they release something so fkn poor??? I thought my mogul was bad, but this thing blows...

Seriously, does anyone have ANY idea at all if this works? I bet there are 7 threads all with people saying I'll report back.. Is it snake oil or what on the TP?

Re: Battery & Performance hacks - all cabed up for my friends

I have done everything online with battery hacks and even with data/bluetooth/Wifi off I still get erratic battery life often as little as 2 hours and often when I am on low battery warning and I plug into even a wall charger the phone will just die. I really think the first batch of Sprint & Alltel TP are lemons. My frind was over here today and he says he gets tons of battery liefe out of his regular touch and always keeps data on and does over 3,000 voice minutes a month. My niece has an instict and after 2 hours of doing almost nothing the TP was down to 10 % the instict with a smaller 1000ma battery was down to 90% WTF HTC?

lexluthor 11-28-2008 08:17 PM

Re: Battery & Performance hacks - all cabed up for my friends

It really mostly comes down to signal strength. I'm convinced that someone who's in an area with 4 bars all day will get double the battery life of someone who's in an area with 1 bar all day.

bruceo 11-28-2008 09:01 PM

Re: Battery & Performance hacks - all cabed up for my friends

Yeah that might be true, but in the same room with crappy signal and an uncrippled instinct with 350 less MA and a user that is a total non techie has 90% battery left, while a techie with tons of tweaking and crippling of the TP features to save battery has 10%, that's terrible and embarassing to say the least.
