Lower Buttons - Capacitive?
 

Well, I tried searching but couldn't find a straight answer.

I went into BB but they only had the dummy phone. I noticed that the lower buttons [Talk, End, Back, Home] had to be physically pushed down.

Is this the case with the real phone? It's not like the LG Chocolate or Venus where you just tap as light as possible and the phone responds??

My understanding is that the whole bottom area is capacitive, but it's used for the scrolling circle thing, not so much the buttons. You do have to physically press them to use the home/back/call/hang up/left/right/up/down functionality.

DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN IT TO HELL!!

Do you think that it's possible to write an app that will allow you to do a capacitive touch of the button and register as a full press? That'd be what I'm looking for!

yessir. I like it that way, i had thought it was gonna be like the choclate but i hear peaople complain about dem thangs.

Hmm... I'm sure no2chem would be able to whip something together EXTREMELY quickly. It shouldn't' be too hard. Just designate each corner to the corresponding command. I hope it can be done!

Yeah, my gf has a chocolate, and those buttons drive me F*#*ing insane... I cannot use it.. she hates it too... she's had it since the day they were released, and has never gotten used to those buttons..

Rumor was the Diamond for Sprint pulled the capacitive functions. I'm not clear on this, though.

I saw a debug capture of the capacitive touch input from the lower part of the display, and it apparently does register taps all over the place. The bottom line is that the buttons are indeed traditional out of the box.

Honestly, I kind of like that feedback over some of the response-less options out there, especially for call/hang up. Last thing I want is more accidental calls. Somehow it always happens. Text comes in, phone turns on in my pocket, calls the person.
