Re: TP Software Issues/Unresolved Issues/Feature Requests

I see I'm not the only one getting the "connection error" on the weather tab...
I was gonna exchange this unit but I guess it's gonna make a difference.

Is the weather tab working fine for anyone?

No, keep the gps at com 4.

Make sure you enable QuickGPS as that is defaulted to manual updates.

Since I let QuickGPS update, I get near instantaneous fixes!

Weather FIX Found

If you are getting connection errors when trying to download weather, then I have found a fix.

This problem sounded familiar to issues I worked with back on the old HTC Home Plugin with its weather tab.

The issue is with the server we pull weather from which is http://weather.manila1.htc.com/. This server is basically acting as a proxy between you and accuweather.com where it formats the data to work correctly for the HTC weather app.

One solution is to bypass that server with another one that's been freely provided by an XDA user (N2A) for quite a while now. His "proxy" is http://weather.not2advanced.com/. His server then acts as the proxy between your phone and accuweather.com.

To get our phones to use his server requires a little work, but not much depending on the method you use.

I used THIS METHOD which simply requires you to download a zip file and put the folder on your phone somewhere. Run the exe from the phone's file explorer and that's it. If you wanted to add a custom city (one not already in the HTC app), you would need to modify the text file the author includes.

You can also go with THIS METHOD but its a little more involved.

Re: TP Software Issues/Unresolved Issues/Feature Requests

Keep posting guys, I am forwarding all this information up directly to HTC for review! These seem like very small fixs but im kinda concerned about the TouchFLO crash due to we didnt have that on our test model at all. But keep them coming!

Hi Crit
Out of curiosity, has HTC just recently begun to be more interested in what folks think and to also grab some needed info about problems from the community? If so, why the sudden change? I'm not complaining I'm just curious and am happy they are looking more too the consumers these days. Thanks.

HTC came apparent to looking more into the community when they noticed there engineers and designers where pulling fixs from forums such as this, This caused a issue, but there defense was -( We are getting the issues directly from the user instead of what only we can find)-. To me I completely agree with that statement! Now HTC does have there support check for issues online, checking forums, websites and looking at new software and widely used software. Notice there are some very cool apps on the Pro, Well thats due to reviews and comments from users, They look at what was widely used on the phones and what users may like. To put it simple HTC now does view issues of a consumer side now, and will continue aslong as we keep posting and providing information and possible fixs.

Worked like a charm..
But if this is/was a server issue how come it didn't affect everybody?

No clue. All I know is this cuts HTC's proxy out of the mix and seems to fix the issue.

Re: TP Software Issues/Unresolved Issues/Feature Requests

The Contact list in MMS messages take for ever to populate.

I select a picture to send to someone, it opens the picturemail app. I click add contact. I wait 60 seconds for the list to populate.

Minor, but annoying
