Re: Touch Pro Reviews
After 2 weeks, I'm torn. Screen is beautiful, speed is good, but...
I am used to the Treo line (600 and 650), so I have not been able to make my peace with the keyboards. The onscreen keyboards get in the way, while the slide-out keyboard requires frequent rotations of the phone because most displays are not optimized for "landscape mode." Rotating Opera Mobile from landscape to portrait (by closing the keyboard) regularly causes the entire page to "shrink to fit", which is completely dysfunctional. The landscape home screen doesn't have an icon for camera, and I have not found an easy way to change this. (There do seem to be some hard ways. ) I do have a problem with the earpiece sounding muffled or distorted, even at low volume. When I switch to the stereo earbuds, there is an audible background sound, almost like the white noise of noise canceling headphones. I plan to discuss these issues with Sprint in the very near future. I've only locked up Windows Mobile a few times; I'd say stability is comparable to PalmOS. I find the TouchFlo 3D Mail screen to be more a hindrance than an aid to productivity, but when I turn off TouchPro and face the spartan native interface of WinMo, I feel a bit lost. Question: How can one keep the keyboard backlighting on for a decent amount of time? I am leaning toward a Windows based Treo (800w or pricey Pro). I certainly would miss the Touch Pro's display, and the dedicated number row, but I do think having a more compact thumb keyboard is faster, at least for me, and having some space between the keys improves ease of use. |

New swapped out Touch PRO is better
I just swapped out out my PRO I got the day before best buy was selling them.
I hard reset many times, reg hacked, soft reset and clicked my heels three times and said "I know theres a good phone". The issues I was having were: 1)Internet would stop working and not start back up again even though the data connection was on. I demonstated this in the store to the reps as well. I would have to stop and start the data connection the start the browser or youtube or whatever I was using again.. Every 2 minutes or so. 2)Screen sensitive issues on the edges. Not a big deal but annoying when using the scroll bars. 3)Phone would not answer phone call when using screen or buttons. It would only answer when the person would call back a second time. I did screen alignment many times. It didnt help. 4)Phone would turn off when on charger, and then not start back up. This caused missed alarms, messages and calls. I use this phone as an alarm when travelling. 5)Speaker volume ! It was really horrible before. it's pretty good now. Tolerable I should say. It's not muffled like the last one. 6)D-Pad was flimsy on the old one. It would crackle and make noises. The new one is solid. 7) The phone came with GSensor already installed on it. It worked good right out of the box. Weird noises on the callers end when I would answer. This is gone now. 9) Squeek battery cover. This is also gone and no longer an issue. More details.. Manufacturer Date 11/3/2008 Software Version 1.03.651.3 Firmware Version 1.03.15F Harware Version 0002 PRL Version 60614 So all in all I think HTC may have started putting out a different batch of phones. I am happy for now and as long as this phone continues to work as it should. I wouldnt normally post a new thread on something like this, but thought maybe there are some other individuals as frustrated as I was that I paid all that money for a phone that wont answer calls on the first call. Re: New swapped out Touch PRO is better
I had the exact same thing happen to me. I originally bought my phone from Best Buy. The area at the bottom of the phone was faulty (loose) so I took it to the Sprint store and they ordered me a replacement. My original phone was made mid Oct. and I had all the problems that everyone else did...minus major gps lag. My new phone has a manufacturers date of 11/2/08; Software Version 1.03.651.3; Hardware Version 0002. I haven't had to fix the sound, gps locks in seconds with no lag, and it hasn't locked up on me once.

Re: New swapped out Touch PRO is better
I have an 11/3 build date also and I don't seem to experience many of the problems that others here describe. My battery life is far from phenomenal but also far from pitiful, the phone doesn't get excruciatingly hot, and stability is fantastic.

My phone's sensitivity around the edges really stinks. Annoying, but not a deal breaker. The battery life isn't great either, but again, not a deal breaker. Now the heat issue is another story. My phone gets very hot when on calls longer than 20 min. Also when I run wmwifirouter it heats up super fast, and won't take a charge. Sprint is in the process of sending me a replacement, but still hasn't shipped. Not sure what is up with that? I got mine shipped when they said they had no stock, now they they say stock is ok I have to wait. Not a big deal though, I know demand is high right now.....and for a good reason. I really like this phone. Looking forward to a better build.

I Love This Phone
I recently purchased this phone and for the past week I have been in love... I have the same issues that everyone else has
- Battery last less than a day with normal-heavy usage ( bought multiple chargers.. waiting for seido battery) - Case creaks when pressure is applied (fixed with tape fix) So far this is the only issues I have had with the device, I do have the occasional slow down and sluggish performance.. But compaired to other windows mobile phones i've had this one is a dream.. I've gone through so many pda phones and had so many problems that so far the pro's outweigh the cons. Sprint Visor Prism Phone - Very heavy - had to reset at least twice a day - 36.6 data connection!! - random lockups and resets - dropped calls Treo 300 - Cracked flip - random lockups and resets - slooowwwwwww - non user replaceable battery - no memory... Treo 650 - data connection issues... many - still random resets and lockups - palm os... getting old... - sd card issues.. Hitachi G1000 - very very heavy.. - data loss when battery removed - slow slow slow! - battery life... literally a 30 minute phone call... - black/white screen of death... - Died within first week... HTC Apache 6700 - Slower than my G1000 - Random memory card issues - battery life.. Camera sucked HTC Mogul - White spots - button issues on keyboard - random resets.. - memory leak issue (reason i got rid of it) - OK battery life... - 10 seconds after i open the keyboard the phone would think about going to landscape mode.. - typing had to catch up with me.. big annoyance Blackberry 8703.. - amazing battery life - no camera - no touchscreen.. - poor internet browser I've probally had at least 4-5 other phones as well... none compare! All of the issues I have had in the past almost make this phone seem perfect to me... yeah the battery life sucks but that's what I expected when I purchased the phone.. I know I'll be purchasing the biggest battery that becomes available the minute it comes out.. The memory issues are gone compared to the mogul for me.. The camera is amazing for a phone and the speed issues are manageable. I have gone from windows mobile and back to windows mobile many times... i just keep coming back to it because of your support.. The support is amazing here and compared to every other OS I have used I love how much these phones can be customized.. Its awesome that the 6700 still has custom roms being made.. that phone isn't even made any more.

how would you change the Touch Pro
inspired by engadget's "how would you change"...
basically your wishlist for the Touch Pro so HTC with these little fixes can give us the perferct phone. I suggest to do this in 2 parts: A: Hardware (stuff that are too late to change now but that HTC can work on for their replacement to the touch Pro in a year or two). B: Software (stuff that can still can be upgraded by HTC or the community) --------------------------------------------------------- A) 1: standard headphone jack 2: Bigger screen (by covering screen on the whole front face and removing the front buttons, and maybe make the overall size a little bigger). 3: add buttons on the sides to offset the removed buttons on the front. re-add the scroll button (the one that is on the left side of the mogul). 4: make the phone less fat (should be 2/3 of what it is now, the size of what is the silver now) 5: capacitive screen 6: longer battery life 7: smoother mecanism when opening the phone. (like the mogul or g1) B) 1: faster 2: instanteneous response when typing (no delay) 3: screen instanteneously go to landscape when opening keyboard 4: landscape manilla 5: easy manilla customising 6: dual boot winmo 6.5/ android 7: xperia panels 8: handling medias better (like iphone/ipod touch) I might have to add more later but this is what comes to mind as of now. |
