Re: Sprint Touch Pro 262,000 color ?
If 4 pixels need to come together to make a color, this would make sense. 262,144 / 4 = 65536. I'm not really sure why it'd need to be 4 colors...RGB is 3 (one of each) but what the hell do I know.

Re: Sprint Touch Pro 262,000 color ?
Either way, usually the effective color is less, because you need more pixels to create certain colors... I think, as a whole, if you were just displaying one color on the screen, you could do 262k, but if you can effectively only show 65k colors AT THE SAME TIME.
That's how I've come to understand it from my experiences over the years... |

Re: Sprint Touch Pro 262,000 color ?
Guys, one pixel is 3 different colors coming together to make it. There is no 4th color, and these individual colors are not called pixels. Furthermore you would not divide 262k by a number to get the max number of colors (if each color had 262k shades you would actually be multiplying them by each other to get the number of colors but this is not the case either). The math you are doing is all wrong here, either it supports 262k or it doesn't, although it is possible that the hardware does and the driver does not.
On top of this it would not be the case that it could display a certain number of colors, but less at the same time. Last edited by holo; 09-26-2008 at 04:51 PM. |

Re: Sprint Touch Pro 262,000 color ?
Ok, well maybe I can clear this up, though I'm not really an expert or anything it's just binary math.
If you look on pdadb.net they list "16 bit/pixel (65536 scales)" Meaning that each pixel is related to 16 bits in memory, so one spot in that part of memory is going to be for one pixel. And since it's stored in binary which has two options. so 2^16= 65,536. Hopefully that made since, but I'm sure it didn't.

Re: Sprint Touch Pro 262,000 color ?
I wonder if HTC did this:
"Alternately, a clever hardware company could make a mobile LCD controller that takes a 16 bit Frame Buffer and dithers up to 18 bits to match the screen. That would get you some benefit out of the better screen with no hit in speed. We would very much like to see this happen, but, to my knowledge, it hasn't yet." That's quoted from the fact sheet that someone posted earlier. Here's the link: http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/...07/462187.aspx Last edited by WisdomWolfX; 09-27-2008 at 11:52 AM. |
