No EVDO after official HTC Alltel upgrade

I have an Alltel HTC Touch Pro that WAS running ? (Didn't write down the versions), it was 1 step below the latest. I upgraded to the "official" upgrade off of HTC website for my device. Upgrade was succesful, but I no longer can access the EVDO connection and have a roaming icon on my phone. Could not update the programming via *228. Hard reset the phone. Called support and verified the settings - went thru the hoops - they reset the profile, etc. There answer is to replace the phone. I have a new device comin on Tues. So I am experimenting with diffenent radio roms and custom roms. Have loaded Conflippers latest - no difference. Loaded the latest Verizon radio software - no difference. Went back to an old Alltel stock rom - no difference. So who can solve this before Verizon support? Verified that I am using the correct "towers" (SID) that were working before. Hope I have given enuff info for a troubleshooting start.
