Replacement Won't Dance

Is anyone having trouble with a replacement vzw TP1 not booting after flashing custom rom? This one was 'remanufactured' on 12-12-09 (which is pretty recent), and even after doing the flash dance on 6 different roms (both pre-built, and cooked by me) won't boot fully after flash. It sits at the screen with the radio at the bottom. The only times it will is with the vzw unlocker/relocker and the stock vzw package. It will let me put those on as many times as I want and will do customizations and then boot....grrrrr

Makes me wonder since I have been doing this on phones with vzw for 3+ years and this particular model for almost a year, but this is the first time this has happened. I am hoping I have a bum unit or that I am doing something wrong. Cause if not....that could be bad for vzw users if they figured out a way to thwart us...lol

Anyway, anyone with similar issues please let me know
(p.s. Did many searchs and didn't find anything like this...if you find one thanks for letting me know)

run the unlocker program again and confirm that it worked.

Mylt1,
Thanks for replying. Yes, I have done that. It shows up as .35 and all in the tricolor screen. Also, I re-locked and unlocked and put the original rom on and then tried another rom, but it only sat at the boot screen....I even tried to use the sd card method, and didn't get any further.

Any other ideas? Would take any anyone has.

Thanks again Mylt1.

Re: Replacement Won't Dance

I do have a question with regards to unlocker. What does it say on your tricolor screen?

Mine says:

Security Unlocked

RAPH500
SPL-0.35.COMNEX
MicroP-Wrong Platform(0x85)
MicroP-Raph (KEY) v8682
PSOC-Raph STAGE_EVT v20

Wrong platform would be a clue I guess, but it is the same unlocker I have always used for my TP's.

Gonna keep flashing back to stock and re-unlocking and trying some older ones, but I flashed Energy, and lunacie on the unit I sent back just 5 days ago...

Does the HSPL screen look right to you...(couple above)..??

Well I tried both but only the SD on Twisted and MaxDarkRoot....I think I should try a lower PP to see if that is the issue. Do you think that could be it?

very possible, set it 6,it's the best for a gimped model, also if doing from the sd card i would back up all your files and reformat the sd card and then try it,a few corrupt files can really screw things up

edit: I LOVE ROOTS WORK BUT HIS ROMS QUIT FLASHING TO VZW LIKE NRGZ DID FROM 11-25 TO 12-17 BUILDS, you may wanna try another rom,or ask on his thread if any vzw users are currently using his rom and having similar issues still

Thanks, Ill try the pp next then. Going to go stock, relock, unlock and then Lunacie, just to make sure everything is right.

What happend to NRGZ and ROOTs that made them not like VZW? I didn't see that....

EDIT: Also, do you know anything about what the tri-color screen should say? See question in post#4

i tried every energy rom 21xxx build released in those dates and none would flash but the 28xxx builds would, contacted him and he said it may be pp but i always set @ 6 but i tried every pp setting just to be sure lol, then he thought it may be something to do with the native 6.5 native kernel he was cooking with at the time, then on 12-17 releases i tried and they all have worked since,he never made any mention if he switched kernels or anything

Root who is one hell of a chef makes bada$$ roms, and i tried every one he released as well and then maybe around 12-28 i started having the same issue with his roms, but i had made RSTG roms my home rom so i figured i would just wait it out on his too lol, root may use the 6.5 native kernel too,i don't know

Re: Replacement Won't Dance

I'm having a similar issue on a recent Sprint TP replacement. Works perfect on stock ROM, but after unlocking and flashing a custom ROM, would take 1-10min to boot from "logo screen with red numbers at bottom". When it finally did boot, would HARD reset when I rebooted/soft-reset. Acted VERY strange, but flashing back to stock made everything work perfectly again. I received this phone a month ago or so.

anytime you have issues like that do the flashdance and especially if you jump from rom to rom and use all kinds of mods,i do it in between every flash and never seem to have the issues that most ppl have and most of the time a good ol' flashdance will fix most problems

That's weird. At first glance you would think the carrier shouldn't matter to the kernel, but since the kernel uses the memory map, it probably could cause that.

Anyway, will you tell me if your TP1's bootloader screen says the same as mine in post #4 please.

And thanks for all your help. I will try the pp tomorrow and update this thread if works.

Hadn't heard of "flash dance" before, but a quick search said "flash to stock,HR,flash to custom rom,HR"...

All those steps have been performed in one fashion or another. But, I'll
give it a full try and report back.

Just a reminder that the HR your refering to (hard reboot) doesn't work on VZW units, wether they are running on Sprint or not. The only way you can do that is if you have a booted device that has the clear storage function. The button dance doesn't work on vzw phones.

Re: Replacement Won't Dance

HR does work on VZN phones. it is the center button and the soft reset. press the center button strait down and hold without pressing either other way and press and hold the SR button and hold. it will come up with press vol up to restore to factory defaults.

that very well could be an issue , I dont know exactly what the details were but many of the energyroms have been troublesome for verizon TP because of their lowered RAM

Since I had already flashed back to stock, I just did a hard reset, then reflashed the custom ROM, and did another HR. Seems to be working - thanks!

Re: Replacement Won't Dance

Well I think the answer is found. The vzw TP only has so much memory mapped for booting os....much like most divices....and because of the newer roms being mostly bigger and bigger :-) .... a page pool of smaller and smaller will allow better boot. All that of course is just logical, but I never thought it wouldn't even boot. Seems that it will boot if pp set lower. On Lunacie's 'Lite' version I could boot with only 6mb pp, but not 10, 8 or 12.
Of course it is not very peppy.....lol

Anyway, thanks to all who helped, and especially for the hard reset info (I swear I looked at 2 or 3 Lonnnnnngggg threads arguing this point for vzw tps, and I personally could never get it to work).

So, short answer is: If the forkin thing won't boot, try ppchanger and bring down a notch or two.... :-)
