keyboard keeps disappearing

Quick question- After I dial a number to make a phone call and take the phone down from my ear to push a number, the phone goes back to non keypad in call screen. So I have to hit the keypad button to bring up the keypad then hit the number I want. This is a pain when checking voice mail or called a company that makes you input info. I like it when it cuts off when you put it to your ear, but is there a way I can make it go back to the keypad everytime I take it away from my ear?
