Everytime I slide the keyboard out, phone turns off

Any idea why this is happening? I've tried hard resetting, but that didn't help either. As soon as i slide the keyboard open, the phone turns off... then I have to press the power button to turn it back on and it power cycles.

Should I call Sprint and have them send me a replacement?

If it's a stock ROM I think you need to call for replacement. I would try as hard as you can to ensist on a new unit. Since it's not that old.

Pull the battery...Replace battery...No more shutdown when you slide open the keyboard. At least that is what worked for me, when I first got the phone! The battery was not seated correctly, so when you open the keyboard it would make the battery lose contact!

This worked! Thanks!

I called sprint and the rep wanted me to file an insurance claim after he couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I'm like im not stupid, i'm not about to pay 100 dollars for a phone that ive had for just over a month when you guys should replace it for free.. so he told me to take it into a store. But removing the battery and putting it back in fixed it!

Haha I bet you were happy. I also just read some where that if you have further issues, some people put post-it-notes under the battery to help it sit better.

Re: Everytime I slide the keyboard out, phone turns off

That happened quite frequently with my first TP2.Ever since I had it replaced for other reasons, I have not had it happen once.

However, it is because of how the battery sits. The harder you slide it closed, the more likely it is to actually wiggle the battery loose. This is partially due to them leaving a little more breathing room around the battery, to prevent the overheating issues we all saw on our TP1. Unfortunately, this extra space sometimes allows the battery to come loose, if closed with any amount of force.

I can't be sure that my newer build has a slightly tighter battery slot, or what. But it hasn't happened yet. I can only imagine, that some may have to stick a felt pad or something to the battery cover on the inside eventually, as it may just get looser in time.

Re: Everytime I slide the keyboard out, phone turns off

Well, it started happening again... I tried reseating the battery making sure it's seated properly, but after an hour or so, it would start turning off whenever I slid out the keyboard, I took it to the store and they're ordering me a replacement. It gets pretty annoying considering i send 8000 - 10,000 texts a month :P

Touch screen texting is way too slow and annoying... ESPECIALLY while ... uh... driving (probably shouldn't be stating that publicly lol)

On mine the screen just sometimes goes off in the middle of typing a txt on the physical keyboard. I'm pretty sure I'm not inadvertently hitting that ill-placed sleep button, but who knows. It's rare, though, and even if its an internals issue, obviously not nearly as bad as what you've suffered. Just thought I'd mention it though, just for the record.
