Leave screen off when receiving SMS?

Every time I get an SMS message, the phone turns on and I start hitting buttons in my pocket. Is there a way to configure the phone so it stays sleeping when I get an SMS message?

Also, I thought I saw a utility that auto locked the screen everytime it was put to sleep... could anyone point me back to it please?

Re: Leave screen off when receiving SMS?

there is a registry edit you can do.

I am using CeRegEditor

navigate to-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]

add DWORD value for selected key-

DWORD Value Name= DisableSMSWakeUpEvent
DWORD Value Data= 1

Are you sure that's not supposed to be a 1 for the data? I would think that 0 would mean it wakes up (as that would make disableSMSWakeUpEvent off) and 1 would mean it doesn't (disable wakup would be on).

you are right. my mistake, I was typing off the top of my head. I just checked my registry and it is a Value Data of 1. I will change it in my post earlier.

Re: Leave screen off when receiving SMS?

The regedit tweak doesn't work at all on this phone. At least that's what every other thread covering this topic in this forum and elsewhere has concluded. It's been my own experience as well. It seems for some reason HTC REALLY thought we should have screens that light up when we receive SMS and that we shouldn't be able to change it. This was also my experience with the TP1 and the XV6700. It never made much sense since it clearly aggrivates users and doesn't reflect well on HTC or the carrier when battery life winds up being half that advertised (at least on phones belonging to people with texty girlfriends).

If anyone is running a custom ROM, I'd love to know if they made this problem go away. If so, then somewhere in that ROM is your answer.
