You might wanna look at the cdma versions. That's one of the reasons the ATT version is called the Tilt and Tilt II.

I owned the Sprint PPC-6700, PPC 6800, Touch Pro, and now Touch Pro 2. Out of all of these Windows Mobile based phones, none come close to the Touch Pro 2.

You can speculate that the specifications look similar which is exactly what I was thinking. I originally bought a Touch Pro 2 based on the screen and battery life alone, but much to my surprise, I got a great deal more in regards to performance over my Touch Pro.

In just about every area I looked, it was better. It is definitely faster. The screen is a dramatic improvement. The battery life is much better. The biggest surprise of all, was the speaker, or should I say speakers. The sound quality is night and day. The microphone array is also greatly improved and when combined with much better sounding and louder speakers, I can now actually use the speakerphone when driving my car.

Don't get me wrong, I still use may original Touch Pro. I use it as a data hookup for my laptop :)

Agreed with the larger, higher resolution being the reason I upgraded, but the real surprise for me was the near-instant lock the GPS on the TP2 has. I have had a TP1, Fuze, & Tilt, and all of them had fairly slow GPS locks...not this bad boy.

The CDMA versions look awkward when you compare them, because of the added GSM support. The GSM versions are easier to compare:

No it's not, it's just AT&T trying to market it. The T-Mobile is GSM, and it's called the Touch Pro2. It's also called the Touch Pro2 in Europe as well

Also, the original AT&T Tilt is not based off of the Touch Pro. It's based off of the TyTN II/Kaiser/P4550

I was saying that the TP1 and TP2 run the same chipset, and HTC specifications I just posted prove that

I agree that the Tilt is just a marketing gimmick...just a name. But the CDMA versions use a newer chipset then the original. So just to be clear...The Sprint/Verizon TP2s have a newer chipset then the Sprint/Verizon TP's and also then the GSM/WCDMA ATT Tilt2 and T-Mobile Touch Pro 2.

That is a fact. The GSM side of the aisle got screwed on this one.

I suppose, but it's only newer because they needed to add GSM support. If you compare a GSM Touch Pro2 with a CDMA Touch Pro2, the CDMA one isn't going to perform any better/faster, and that's what this thread is all about, asking why the TP2 performs better than the TP1, and that answer can only be speculated upon by us

My guess would be the obvious one, and just be the fact that HTC had more time to mess with the hardware. More time to tweak TF3D, make drivers, etc...

Windows Mobile 7 and some Snapdrogon goodness? I hope so... Ive gone from a Mogul to a TP to a TP2. The step from Mogul to TP was huge. The step from TP to TP2 is not as noticeable in terms of performance but it is a better phone overall. Is it worth $200 is your current TP is working fine, probably not. I think of the TP2 as merely a revised TP with some minor fixes. I was not blown away by the change. The move from the current TP2 chipset to a Snapdragon or Tegra solution will be more drastic. Surprisingly, in this recent review of the HD2, it appears the aging Winmo6x is the real bottleneck limitation to performance even on faster chipsets.

http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/25/htc-hd2-review/

WM6x is what sets these Pro/Pro 2 apart from the Android, Pre, and iphone. I am a WM fan, but MS really needs to step it up and get their stuff together for WinMo 7. Winmo 6x is REALLY showing its age. HTC has done a great job with TouchFlo and now Sense UI but there is only so much you can do with the aging OS.

HD2 should come to a few U.S. carriers (hopefully Sprint) in Q1-2 of 2010.

Well, it looks like we might be only a few months away from seeing this wish become reality. Already shipping in Europe and now in Taiwan, HTC announced on Wednesday that it plans to bring the HTC HD2 to the United States with a major carrier in early 2010.

Unfortunately, the company did not reveal which U.S. provider would have that honor, or any pricing information, but we should note that the smartphone will be available through T-Mobile UK on November 9 and TmoNews has spotted the smartphone mentioned in some leaked T-Mobile USA documents.

touch pro 2 actually has an older processor than the touch pro 1, but because the phone is bigger, bigger hd screen, keyboard buttons are spaced out for bigger fingers, the screen tilts up in landscape mode, it has some big speakers on the back of it :). basically i think the differences is modifications in the hardware.
