Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

OK Seems I didn't put this in an order that people could follow so Lets fix this.

1. Do NOT delete your #777 connection
2. go to settings/connections/connections
3. Click manage existing connections
4. Click New
5. Enter a name for connection ( mine is vzwembedded)
6. Enter another name ( mines Verizon 3g)
7. Use default Cellular line
8. Under enter number use exactly emgsm.vzw3g.com
9. User name enter emgsm.vzw3g.com UPDATE: use this: phonenumber@emgsm.vzw3g.com
10.Password: vzw
11. check make sure its server asigned
click finish.

Go back into manage into manage existing connections & choose Auto;

Thats it, you may or may not need to soft reset.

I am a little unclear of what you are stating here. However I am very curious. So is everyone else in this thread here. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=94581

Maybe you could clarify what you are suggesting be changed.

You said:

Log on: emsgsm.vzw3g.com
Pass: vzw (I tried our regular password & it worked)

Usually this is where under logon, you would input: 10 digit # @vzw3g.com

Are you saying to leave the 10 digit number out and just use what you have typed above?

Were you getting the voice only popup? If so, is it gone now?

Please elaborate, as it's driving many crazy!](*,)

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

I had gotten the popups etc when I flashed my 1st rom. So I remembered on the stock rom there were basically 2 connections and NO popups. So I reflashed with the stock and wrote down the info. and reflashed to custom and got the same annoying sh***.

So on a hunch and here was my thought. In theroy all cell co's share towers. In order to callout a function such as 3g, you need proper protocals to access the data connections. You must have a password to get access to the networks 3gs sytem otherwise it doesn't work. I think what verison has done is to incorporate a seperate setting that hops different towers and not only allows access but to be able to read & keep the connections.

I live between 3 sprint towers with their local office 7 miles away. Hence i'm in sprint zone. So by using the embedded connection it allows me to connect to 3g without being dropped like a big dog 24/7. This dropping issue appeared on regular connection after flashing the rom to custom before I put in the 2nd connection.

So adding the 2nd mearly allowed me to connect to verizons network without hassle & annoying popups, data connections are screaming fast.

I like to think of it as making an invisible line of site connection.
Yes your data usage shows up. You can not connect without the passsword.

I entered it like this:

1st screan called it: vzwembedded same as they had it
2nd screen just called it: verizon3g ( cell connection)
next entered the: emgsm.vzw3g.com
password: vzw

Hope this helps any questions please feel free to ask.

Update: remember under select networks it needs to be set to auto to allow the phone to swith protocals as needed.

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

Those settings have no connection to CDMA/1x data or voice connections. They are only used when the GSM sim card is enabled when roaming internationally. You'll notice that if you switch from CDMA to GSM with the stock rom, it will switch between the CDMA and GSM data settings.

clueless25 11-21-2009 05:31 PM

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

Clrification to confusion:

This is a 2nd connection you need to add manually. If you are using jmz, you already have the 1st connection. It's under My ISP.

clueless25 11-21-2009 05:33 PM

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

I looked all over the web and yes thats what they say. But since this is a gsm phone it does work. Before you say it doesn't try it.

When 1st setting up 2nd connection you choose cell connection and nothing else.

The GSM line is a DATA line, thats why this works. It's nothing more then a workaround they use.

I wouldn't post it if it wasn't working.

Whoops Ment to say GLOBAL PHONE. Not gsm

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

While sitting here looking for some info on the forum, I thought that since Verizon is using the GSM service in usa for data, this may infact be reason they are requiring data plans on these types of phones? Just a thought.

Is JMZ on ppc? I think he can incorporate these settings into his little program.

jlbusch 11-21-2009 07:36 PM

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

I added it in just as you indicated...we'll see how it works.

For clarity:
1. Go to settings tab, all settings
2. Select Connections
3. Select Connections again
4. Select manage existing connections (or add a new modem connection, either should work)
4. Click New
5. Enter Name - vzwembedded (modem= cellular line)
6. It will ask to enter a number...enter this: verizon3g
7. On next screen will ask for User Name: emsgsm.vzw3g.com
and password: vzw
Leave domain blank.

Now on the main connections screen you will have three options: Auto pick, vzwembedded, and verizon wireless

I don't know if this works yet...
This is just a clarification of what I did based on Clueless 25's original post.
Will see if it helps anything.

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

Ok, after doing exactly what was posted above, as jlbusch wrote it. I get:

cannot connect,
No modem detected. Make sure blah blah blah! No data at all after making that change. Unless I'm doing something wrong. That is why I was asking for a more specific set of instructions, such as jlbusch posted. Is what he wrote, exactly how it should be input as you are suggesting?

Not working for me at all, if so.

***EDIT*** Update!!!

I reset my data connection in Comm manager after making above changes. Turned data off, then back on. Then I could connect again, but the popup notification returned within 2 minutes.!!

I will continue to use my fix, until someone can come up with something better! Thanks for trying though!

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

When you start to add the connection, when giving it a name are you clicking the cell connection and not the modem?

Won't work with modem. Use the cell connection. Try that, i'll hang out to help you set it up.

READ directions. This is NOT to set up a modem.

I entered it like this:

1st screan called it: vzwembedded same as they had it
2nd screen just called it: verizon3g ( cell connection)
next entered the: emgsm.vzw3g.com
password: vzw

Hey dude, I read directions much better then you write them, so lets not go there.

Don't make a worthy attempt at helping others, become a spiteful waste of time! I truly appreciate your attempt at helping others to figure this out. Don't wreck it with rudeness, kapeesh?

I did set it up as a cellular connection, Didn't Work!!!](*,)

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

You may or may not need to soft reset.

Anyhow, yes you did put cell connection and that is all I ever tried to set it as! I never set it as a modem.

However, it does not work, for me anyway! Yes, I read that you said to set it to Auto as well. Did that the first time too. Didn't work. Thanks anyway!

actually i did put it in thru the posts but might have helped if I had re-edited my 1st post huh

Ok read to me what your settings are exactlly:

It works for me and was the actual setup when I bought my phone in sept.

your not deleting your #777 connection are you?

santod 11-21-2009 08:15 PM

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

No, I did not delete the #777 connection

It just wasn't very clear what entry was to go in which box. If you look at how jlbusch summarized it, it is much clearer, what to enter in which box.

If what he wrote is incorrect, then I am doing it wrong. If it is supposed to be different then what he clearly posted, please rewrite it in the format that he used. That way it is straight forward and can be certain if it will work or not.

I hope that helps you to understand what I mean about writing the instructions more clearly.

You have said to set it to auto from the get go pretty much, that part is simple to follow. It's the rest that needs a little help!

who is jlbusch , I posted for a solution to this for over a week and not one response I was up till 4am to figure this out last night. Thats when I posted the darn fix.

Send me a link to that.

I'm referring to his post in the previous page of this thread that you started.

He simply was summing up what you were trying to say.

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

I have also spent quite a few hours digging through the registry and trying different things to fix this. The only thing to work so far, is the fix I posted!

clueless25 11-21-2009 08:27 PM

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

I see what your saying, I think we got to the same functions a little different but it doesn't work under modem settings.

You can do it either way long as you link the 2 connections.

Did you get it working? Careful of typo's and don't forget the period between emgsm.vzw3g.com

No, it didn't work for me, I still get the popups, until I apply my simple setting fix that works for me.

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

Well, again thanks for the effort.

The fix I posted, works for me. It is as simple as changing Network settings to Home, instead of Standard. No more popups since then!

Easy to switch back if and when needed too.

Here is a copy of the post I made regarding what has been working for me.

__________________________________________________ ____________________________________________
***!!!!!!FIXED!!!!!!***

Ok, after many hours of frustration with this darn popup notification, I have finally found a very very simple way to stop it.

Settings>Personal>Phone>CDMA Services>Network Service>
Change to Home Only (done!)

So far, I have noticed no negative impact on my reception or signal and have not had the popup once. It was doing it several times per minute, just sitting here on my desk, right before I changed that. So, that is what is causing it and is a simple fix and easily reversed.

So, I may leave mine that way 100% of the time if it doesn't hurt my reception where I go.

However if it seems to impact my ability to receive a signal in certain places, then I will simply set it back to STANDARD.

I hope this helps others who are having this annoying issue!

I had actually tried the home only switch & it didn't do anything for me. Kinda weird huh.

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

I have no clue, verizon told me to *228 #2 for local tower ( sprint tower of course) and it actually made it worse. One of the nice things about custom roms, you can wipe that dumb mess out!

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

My impression so far, is that VZW has no roaming, "technically". So any network it can connect on, it will if they have a partnership with their towers. In my area, Verizon uses U.S. Cellular towers when needed, or closer to them then Verizons. If I use the stock flashed rom settings or the ons you provide, it detects all other towers as extended network, causing the popup, even though data still works.

However by switching to Home only, it now sees all towers that it has permission to connect through, as Verizon network!

Anyway, I'm just glad I don't have to deal with the stupid popups anymore!
I'm also happy that your adjustments are working for you. Maybe it will work for someone else too! Not for me though.

clueless25 11-21-2009 09:13 PM

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

Thats weird because mine shows verizon network. There is one end of the house it shows extended. It quite possible may be a tower issue. Not sure. But I'm pretty sure verizon leases towers. How else could they have expanded to fast the last few yrs. It wasn't that long ago at&t had the market.

So have the two fixes posted in this thread done anything for the 1X issue? Sorry I'm just not clear. I have never gotten any popup so I'm not 100% sure what you guys are referring to there. 8notime and myself were the first two on here to report about the getting stuck in 1X issue and that's where I'm still at now.

Nope, I have done both I still can get stuck in 1x occasionally. Actually after I made the addition noted by Clueless I had to reset. Then it got stuck in 1x two more resets using the XDA shutdown reset did not work...then i used the HD tweaks reset and it worked right away back to EVDO.

In regards to the additional connection noted by Clueless25, I am able to use either connection to get an EVDO connection that runs average speeds, nothing spectacular but definitely EVDO.
I was not frequently getting the pop-up noted but do from time to time, I cannot confirm if either fixes the pop up as I am not having a lot of trouble with this.

FYI clueless25, you have a typo in your edited first post which is now much clearer but sadly incorrect due to the typo.
you originally posted that the user name should be emsgsm.vzw3g.com (which you did not reproduce correctly in your edited first post) Your typo will probably cause a lot of unnecessary consternation and you should probably correct it.

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

Yeah, thanks for pointing out the typo jlbusch. As the second time I tried, I thought, wow, I had an extra "s" in there. No, it got posted wrong after being edited! DOH!! Anyway, her suggestion did nothing but cause me problems. Reverting back to what I had, works like a charm!

What I suggested has gotten rid of the popup for me, may not work for all, as I had the popup almost constantly at my house. I could barely navigate files, without closing it out every 30 seconds. Sometimes more!

clueless25 11-22-2009 05:31 PM

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

I wanted to ask those that have had popup issues if you also had weird text messages with verizon on them. Turns out another gentleman may have been right. Missed phone calls and instead of getting the voice mail was getting funny text msg's.

I use visual Voice and since making these changes have Not received stupid weird texts msg's and have gotten my calls.

I should also note that this was on any rom other then stock.

Any other verizon customers have the same problem and had it go away when using the settings above?

clueless25 11-22-2009 05:34 PM

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

Problems such as?

Oh and just for kicks I tried setting that home setting, still didn't work for me & it also put +1 () infront of calls. I think that is for if your calling internationally.

Re: Popups & Getting stuck in 1x possible fix!

The HOME setting is not for international calls. There is also a setting to tell it to prepend numbers with a 1, or not. Anyhow, looks like the newer roms may have incorporated the correct settings and hopefully the issue will have been resolved. Looking forward to trying roms based off the new USCC 6.5 rom. Especially since the Automatic A and Automatic B settings have returned on those roms.

I am getting these pop up and have just tried the latest ROM from Juicy & ENergy. I guess i will have to go back to stock if someone hasnt figured this out. I cant use the phone with the popup every 5 seconds. I am in a 1x area most of the time and if i select HOME i get no signal.

Is there a carrier cab to install when using verizon ?

Any sugestions ??
