Sprint TP2 in Canada?

Ok, I am going to Canada this weekend. I have sprint and I was wondering what type of charges I will incur for using my US sprint TP2. Also, do I need to call sprint to unlock the GSM function. Anyone ever used their phone in Canada? Thanks in advance.

The GSM should be unlocked already. Go into SIM manager, itll say it. Youll incur roaming charges. You may not have to actually use the GSM portion, youll probably end up roaming off of Bell or Telus, depending on where you go in Canada. Id call *2 and ask for the international department and ask about charges and special rates

AHHHHHH....CANADA..... America's hat.
lol.
In your start menu... all programs there's a shortcut (called international usage) that takes you to a PDF file explaining what steps to take.
It's a 3 page document.

if you plan on coming to canada more than once, you should SIM unlock your phone and grab a roger's SIM card, I think they're 40$ CND for the card plus whatever air time you buy, not sure if they sell data with those though.

Where are you going? Windsor? A little run to Tiajuana North.

Good to know in case I ever want a fresh cold Moosehead.
I only have international experience with my TP2 going down to Mexkicko... And I forgot to call in to set it up. I'm not sure if it roamed or what. I put it in airplane mode.

Sprint will RAPE you on roaming charges unless you get their Canada pack for the month. Call CS and check.

for $4.95/mo, Sprint roaming in Canada is $.20/min. I'm not sure what the price is without the roaming package. I used my TP all the time when I go there. This weekend, I am going back for the first time since getting my TP2. I still have my Rogers account (gotta love 3-year contracts!), so I intend to stick my Rogers SIM in the TP2, tell it to go GSM only, and see what happens. I am hoping it will work...

As an aside, though: one of the reasons I chose Sprint is the MASSIVE difference in data roaming charges when going to Canada. While VZW and ATT charge something like $14/MB, Sprint "only" charges $2/MB. On top of the simply unlimited plan not being matched by anybody, this was a major factor for me going with Sprint.

@pauldehoyos: Moosehead, huh? I'll have one for ya. That's from my neck of the woods :-)

From the Sprint web page:

"
$2.99 Canada Plan
For only $2.99 per month, you can make local calls in Canada, call
back to the U.S. and even receive calls in Canada for just $0.20 per
minute. That’s a savings of $0.39 per minute over standard roaming
charges! Sign in to your account at sprint.com and select the
“Canada Roaming Option” to receive this great discounted rate."

It's $.59/min without the Canada roaming option. If my math is right, you break even on the $2.99 after 8 minutes.

Re: Sprint TP2 in Canada?

FYI: I am in Canada with my Sprint TP2 now, using my Rogers SIM for both voice & data, in GSM-only mode, without a problem. I haven't tested the speed of the HSDPA yet, but I will at some point.
