Re: Sprint TP2 in Canada?
i think it depends on which part of canada you go to, earlier this year i went to Niagra falls in canada and used my sprint touch pro as well as other sprint phones the whole time i was there and did not get a single penny of roaming charges.
before i crossed the border i turned the roaming option off and set it to "sprint only" to make sure it wouldn't roam. Still got a decent signal, but maybe i was getting the signal from towers in New York. try setting the phone to sprint only and see if it works there, if not call CS and add the canada option to your plan. |
Re: Sprint TP2 in Canada?
Hmm....is no one having this problem?
I'm on a Verizon TP2. I get the can't determine Current Country pop-up on and off throughout the day. Seems to happen when the phone kicks over from Verizon to Telus. |
Re: Sprint TP2 in Canada?
Have been in Vancouver for 2 days with the cheap roaming data plan. No problems and no extra charges other than the $2.50/day. I have also been able to tether via PDANet, after turining off the 3G acceleration.
Next month will be in Toronto and will try it there. Mobile Skype worked fine. |
Re: Sprint TP2 in Canada?
When I go to Montreal it's considerably cheaper to activate the Canada Roaming Option then simply roam on CDMA towers there. Buying a SIM alone costs more than a week's calls using that option, then the per-minute charge is higher on a prepaid SIM than it is under the roaming plan. I don't use enough data while out of the country to make data an issue.
The situation in Mexico is the reverse. A TelCel Amigo SIM (if purchased in Mexico, say at an Oxxo store) is 150 pesos and comes with a 50-peso credit, making the final cost for the SIM itself around 8 bucks US. Calls and texts are cheap, too. Roaming on CDMA, though, costs a fortune and there's no Mexico equivalent of the Canada Roaming Option. |
Re: Sprint TP2 in Canada?
I spent 3 weeks in Whistler for the Olympics last month. I signed up for Canada Roaming option the day I left Denver. Calling was .20 cents a minute, but the data ended up being pretty expensive. (I don't remember exactly what it was but I ended up paying more for data than talk-minutes). I planned to not use data while there, but it's just too tempting.
