Well, I felt compelled to upgrade so I ordered the TP2 today, so I'll let you know how much better I like it compared to the Touch Pro in a few days.

Another big yes vote. The larger screen is quite nice - battery life is significantly better. BT is no longer a massive drain on the battery that it was with my TP. The lack of overheating is really a nice "feature" as well :)

Yes!!! Huge tilting screen, conference call, etc.

it wouldn't let me put just yes lol, but its the freakin bomb, only thing so far is all the roms are 6.5, and some of us still like the 6.1

Re: Is TP2 that MUCH better than TP?

i think the TP2 is much better too. I used to think it wasn't worth it, but when I actually bought it (I did so because I had to switch to a Verizon plan, and therefore get a new phone), I was very VERY satisfied.

I don't have any complaints. I've flashed Mighty's rom on here, and I haven't been compelled to change anything else. Battery life is great for me, and I'm a heavy user (it's not uncommon for me to play a game while talking on the phone with my bluetooth headset for HOURS).

It may not look like much of an upgrade on paper, but I think you'll like what you get :).

Re: Is TP2 that MUCH better than TP?

Another big vote for yes. This phone is much more solid that the Touch Pro and the larger, higher res screen is a dream to use. If the screen was capacitive it would be completely perfect, but as it is it's close enough.

Re: Is TP2 that MUCH better than TP?

SO much better. I liked the original TP a lot but it did have so flaws. It seems like HTC was able to fix most of those issues. Most notably:
-MUCH better speaker
-smoother & faster
-bigger screen
-feels like a better quality (physically) phone

to answer your question, yes, but would you really expect many of us here to say no in the touch pro 2 forum? :p

Re: Is TP2 that MUCH better than TP?

It's the most wonderful device since the TP and it'll be great until a CDMA, old-school SERO compatible HTC HD2 is available.

Re: Is TP2 that MUCH better than TP?

Never really liked my TP1 that much. Love my TP2. Keyboard is in a league of its own. I really liked the tilt at first, but have to be honest and say I don't use it all the time now. Much prefer the slightly raised volume and power buttons. Larger screen is definitely nice too. Unit doesn't look square like the TP1 did. Lack of a d-pad took some getting used to...but I don't miss it any more.

Re: Is TP2 that MUCH better than TP?

YES, I cant believe what a difference the phone is. Honestly when I heard the specs were the same I didnt even look at the TP but its leaps and bound better. The hardware just is amazing, they tweaked everything.

-Bigger screen
-Screen is almost got capacitive type sensitivity
-Battery is much much better
-overall build quality is better
-call quality is better
-speaker phone is best out there
-best hardware keyboard
-Sprints has a headset jack
-feels better, its about the same thickness but its wider, does not feel so brick shaped.

Agreed, my TP2 is much better than my TP1 (especially since I had a Verizon TP0.8).

I'd also like to add the battery life is much better. If I don't charge the phone overnight, I don't wake up to a dead phone - it barely uses any power. This screen is awesome, speakerphone is awesome, phone feels solid - good quality, qwerty keyboard is awesome, tilt is very nice to have.

I've gotten past the lack of d-pad, but I do miss the flashlight. Softwarewise, many minor revisions - especially on a new rom. Glad I upgraded!

Re: Is TP2 that MUCH better than TP?

I'm happy with the Touch Pro 2 but unless you can get a substantial discount on the device it's not worth paying the full price. Yes you'd be happier with the TP2 it has the larger screen, nicer keyboard, better speaker phone support, but personally I don't think it's worth paying the full $500 asking price if you're still in contract. After all internally it's essentially the same hardware. If HTC upgraded the processor and RAM I wouldn't have any hesitation recommending it. That said, if Asurion wouldn't have upgraded me from my Touch Pro I'd still be using it until my contract expired.

Re: Is TP2 that MUCH better than TP?

I love it so much more than the TP1. I dont have to have a microscope to see the screen and it just seems to run a whole lot better even though the hardware is about the same. It also doesnt heat up burning your hand off while tethering which is nice. Plus my TP usb port broke so I got my TP2 for free :headbang:

No. It doesn't have a DPad, Flash for Camera, or a capacitive controlling surface.

IMO the battery life is not better. It's about the same, if not worse(one of the reviews I recently read made note of this too). While the BT is not as much a drain as it was, it's now buggy. The big bug coming in the form of the end/hangup key not functioning with a lot of BT devices out there(so no voice activated dialing right from the BT device).

So, having given you my negative, to the OP, even with these issues, the TP2 is DEFINITELY worth the upgrade. It is MUCH better thand the TP1. Bigger screen, fantastic feel and layout of the keyboard(although I miss my tab key), better speaker and I love the proximity sensor. Load it with some 3rd party firmware(I'm using MightyROM) and you will be happy with it.

I disagree with this. The battery life is much better. With moderate use of the TP1, I had to carry around an extra battery. Now I get through a day easily and I use my TP2 pretty heavily, and I still have about 40% at the end of the day around midnight. I have never run out of battery in a 16 hour day, which happened all the time with my TP1.

Are you kidding??

The TP2 battery life is WAY better than any TP I ever owned (& I had four of them running all different ROM's)

Running Mighty ROM in my TP2 my battery life was outstanding, now running Juicy's ROM it is not quite as good but it's still way better than the TP.

Nope, not kidding at all. Lemme dig out the review I read that makes mention of the same thing...

**EDIT**
Can't dig it up since I believe may have been a youtube review(can't get to youtube here at work), but here is another review that mentions while he was impressed with the battery, other reviews he's read say they are not impressed(like myself)...

http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/4wm...k-my-life.html

Dunno, maybe a bad batch of batteries, of which I got one. I do have a couple of those eBay "special" 2000mh batteries on order, so perhaps they will change my opinion.

mikejones13 11-19-2009 12:33 PM

Re: Is TP2 that MUCH better than TP?

Thats funny considering I had to carry 2 to 3 extra batteries around if I knew I was going somewhere where the service SUX. Now I don't carry any extra batteries, phone works in places it didn't and the battery last 2 days without a charge...compared to my TP (6 of them total and still have one on my 2nd line). I took both phones to work with me when I first got the TP2 and the TP1 ran out of juice within 3 hrs while the TP2 only lost 10%. So, IMO the battery is light years ahead of the TP1. And personally I could care less about what some review says. Just like IMO 90% of reviews for the movies, cars and other things are dead wrong.

lol i dont need a review to tell me that with the tp1 i could barley talk on the phone for 3 1/2 hours straight & with the tp2 i pass 4 all the time not to mention when i put the tp2 on the charger while on the phone it actually charges & im not stuck with the same or less battery then when i put it on:mrgreen:

All I'm trying to show with the reviews is that while you guys seem stunned that someone would make a negative comment about the battery life, I am not the only one. Like I mentioned, perhaps there's some bad batteries out there. I dunno, but whatever it is, I'm not see the battery life that other are seemingly seeing.

I really liked the hardware buttons on the prev tp1. Without it on the tp 2 im lost.

Re: Is TP2 that MUCH better than TP?

I love my TP2. The TP2 is much better than the TP in form, function (much quicker/snappier) & fit.

I just recently had my TP2 replaced (Monday). I was without my TP2 Friday night -Monday after work (3 days).

I had my TP re-activated until my new TP2 arrived. I can not go back to the TP. Speed, screen sized & other features were very much missed.

Now that said. The TP2 battery does not last as long as the TP. Using same apps. the TP2 drains the battery quicker especially when streaming radio (Wunder Radio), calendar reminders, mail & text alerts)

Once you go TP2 from TP you will not go back!!!

It's Off the Chain!!!!!!!
