Storage card disappears when connecting in "Disk Drive Mode" with USB Cable

Hey Guys,

I met a problem. Normally, when I connect my TP2 to PC, it shows what mode to choose, Activesyn or Disk Drive mode or Internet Sharing. I tried Disk Drive Mode, and it worked very well while I copied big files & music songs to my storage card.

Then later, I met some problem, I "Clear Data" of my TP2, you know, full reset. Then now when I connect my TP2 to PC, when I choose "Disk Drive mode", my storage card can't show in my PC.. You know, I need to copy some files to the storage card, but I can't see it!!!!

When I followed big geeks here to check in Start\Settings\Connections\USB to PC, the Disk Drive mode(Faster file transfer) says:

"The storage card won't be displayed in the device's File Explorer when connected to a PC in Disk Drive Mode."

Does anyone has a clue to what's happening with my device? Did I change the settings when I restored the "Manufacture settings"?

Thanks in advance!

Mine says the same thing, and I am on stock. First, when you do that and connect your usb to pc your phone turns into a DISK DRIVE basically. So you won't be able to see the card in file explorer when you connect. Because the PC is looking at it. I don't think I have ever been able to do that with my vogue, TP1 or TP2. And what you can do is unplug the usb from the phone. Then plug it back in and when the pop up comes on the screen choose disk drive as well.

Thanks Mike! But my problem is:

I wanna copy some files to the storage card, but I CAN'T see it from my desktop while normally, it will pop up as a drive that I can read the files in it.

Kinda weird... any clue?

Thanks!

Have you run activesync? You can go through activesync or WMDC and navigate to your sd card from there.. Also you can try resetting your phone and pc.

Maybe your SD card is currupted, Does your phone see the SD card when not connected to the PC

The real problem is I wanna copy big files(iGo8 GPS maps, several GBs...) to my storage card, normal small software files are fine.

And it seems like there is no options for me to choose since there is no "check box" as other devices do. See here:

I think there must have some setting there for it.

Is that possible? Or does anybody have some patch to fix it?

Thanks gutrrob!

My microSD card is fine. I can copy files to storage card when I sync with my PC through Activesync.

When I clicked the Disk Drive mode, my speaker of PC also give sounds when a normal USB Drive connects, but there is no pop-up window shows up, and I also can't see the card either from My TP2 or PC. Just as what the message says,

"The storage card won't be displayed in the device's File Explorer when connected to a PC in Disk Drive Mode."

Hehe...interesting....

Well your screen shots are completely different from the first post to your last post. What did you install in between? Second, you can't navigate to your card through MY COMPUTER? Did you flash a custom rom? What OS are you running on your pc. And finally have you been able to connect your phone and use it as a disk drive before all of this? On windows 7 or at least on mine every time I do a hard reset and connect my phone as a disk drive it installs a driver automatically.

Re: Storage card disappears when connecting in "Disk Drive Mode" with USB Cable

Oh, I just quoe somebody else's screen shot of their device, to show the difference.

My TP2 is original. Just hard reset twice. My computer is running Windows XP Sp3. And I did connect with "Disk Drive mode " before and copies iGuidance V2009 GPS software and maps to the SD card.

But this time, I totally can't see any drive showing up in my computer when I connect it with "Disk Drive Mode" ---- either from Explorer in Windows XP or my TP2 when it connects as Disk Drive mode.

That's why I post here to ask for help.....

Re: Storage card disappears when connecting in "Disk Drive Mode" with USB Cable

When I use the phone USB as a disk drive it shows up as another lettered drive just like a thumb drive, you should be able to navigate to the phone SD card via My Computer, you cannot see the SD card on the device like this though. It may be easiest to just use activesync and WMDC to connect the device and copy files to where you want them.
Are you sure you can't see the phone as a regular disk drive via My Computer?

Re: Storage card disappears when connecting in "Disk Drive Mode" with USB Cable

I am sure about that. When I connected, I am expecting the window shows up as another lettered drive(Previousely it shows as K:\, but it didn't.

To copy 4 GB files through activesync? Killing me...it takes too long...(Yeah, through activesync, I do see the files in the device and in the Storage card.)

Does WMDC work as a Disk Drive when using activesync? My previouse Treo 800w can work with Card Export II, but it won't show me the shortcut and I can't find it in the device through activesync.

Oh, I remember that I cleared some unuse files in the storage card. Did I delete some useful files? Here is the screen shot of my current storage card.

Re: Storage card disappears when connecting in "Disk Drive Mode" with USB Cable

Ok, I'm assuming everyone has rebooted both the pc and ppc without them connected.

the settings in the ppc applet can get 'stuck' so try toggling them. if you have it set to prompt when connected do you ever actually get the prompt?

one of the problems with usb is that the PC stores every device that connects, and sometimes records multiple instances of your phone, thus confusing it. there are several walkthroughs on how to clear your usd device list, but I usually just go to device manager and uninstall all my usb hosts. PnP will re-detect and your usually good to go.

Re: Storage card disappears when connecting in "Disk Drive Mode" with USB Cable

usually this problem is because the device was forcefully dismounted from teh computer in a dirty way. at that point its good to say run checkdisk on it. However, usually taking the microsd card out and in, and worst case rebooting the phone [soft] will usually let it rebuild the fs - filesystem

i didnt see the file on there i wish i could remember what file it was, do you have another mem card if you do put that it in your phone with no files on the card, when you hook it up to your computer it should put 2 files on the card one of the files i had to delete and the computer pick it up then

Re: Storage card disappears when connecting in "Disk Drive Mode" with USB Cable

I just hard reset the TP2 after taking my 8GB MicroSD card out, erased all the data, and when it booted, I went to start\settings\connections, and it shows the same things as I said above....

It was recovered to the orinigal data!!!!

Any idea?

Re: Storage card disappears when connecting in "Disk Drive Mode" with USB Cable

I had this same problem and thought there was something wrong with the disk. I popped it in and out like 50 times and finally realized, I just needed to unplug the damn cable in order to see the storage card. When i called TMobile 2 months ago to find out how to transfer the pics on my card to the computer, she said I had to actually copy them from my device (for me, it's under "my documents > my pictures > 100 Media" file), to the storage card (I put it in "my pictures") and then I could access them. I know, it seems sooo stupid, but that's just the way you have to do it.

FYI I absolutely hate the "double twist" software and refuse to use it at all costs (after it started automatically copying like every photo from my "my pictures" file onto my phone and I couldn't get it to stop). I just read the disk drive through "my computer" and transfer everything that way.

Re: Storage card disappears when connecting in "Disk Drive Mode" with USB Cable

Just set the device to use the storage card for your pictures then use a card reader to transfer them to your PC. Never have to connect the phone again for this. Advanced Config will allow you to change the location where photos are stored.
