Best software for a 'real' backup

Any one know wut the best software for a REAL backup of ALL my data/UC is? I like to test all the new roms bu inevitably I seem to always end up w/stock with all the registry hacks/tweaks to make it my 'own'. problem is that takes FOREVER, and sashimi is a pain to setup EVERY little tweak and setting.
So what's your favorite backup program that will restore ALL my stuff exactly (kinda like Norton Ghost for PC's is what'm looking for)

Thanks!!

I use Sprite Backup.. It creates a perfect backup. Once I get the ROM tweaked the way I like it, I run the backup. Then I play around with other roms and end up going back just like you, I restore my Sprite Backup and it is just perfect.

Any one try SPB backup?

Freezes while it tires to close whats running and I don't think it's good as Sprite.

SPB Backup is the best back up for me i tried 3 different one's including sprite and nothing came close to SPB on HC TP2

again this is my preference...

PIM only for contacts, but I don't even use that anymore, Microsoft MyPhone or copy your contacts to the SIM!

Do you let it close all the apps before it starts to backup?

It looks like it hangs if I check off "close apps before backup"

If I don't check it, it does proceed to save, but detailed description after the backup says there were few problems logged. I have no clue that the logged problems are though.

Yes i make sure all my apps are closed and i proceed to full backup to sdcard and 3 min i have 100% full backup on sdcard i have done full restore 4 times and it was like nobody touched my phone...

it is amazing for windos 6.1 and htc tp 2

again this is my opnion my findings after i tried all three backup programs...

SPB was best in class

sorry but i have not yet loaded any rom cause my sprint stock 6.1 with pimp package with goodlife tweaks is awesome so fast with 2 days battery life and no glitches with anything.

even landscape with garmin and ig08 and all the apps i have loaded.

so i am not in a hurry to try any rom unless i see benefit

as they say don't touch something which is not broken lol ;)

Re: Best software for a 'real' backup

Question: I just reloaded the stock VZN ROM and when I tried to run my last Sprite Backup form the SD, it said it could not be run since it wasn't signed. Normally with my TP it would just run and i was good to go. Is there a cab or something I need to run first to authorized unsigned stuff??

I had to reload Sprite from my computer and put my serial (info I keep at home) back in for it to work. That sucks if I'm on the road and need to hard reset.

I never had that happen. Weird. I've done like 4394* backups/restores.

*number may be off ;)

yea, ive done a fair share also thats the only time it ever went weird, I also thought it was strange...Sprite definantly is the shiznizzle......

Re: Best software for a 'real' backup

i just had to reload sprite first and the run the restore. everything went peachy. I think I read somewhere (Good Things cleanup thread) that the stock ROM wont run unsigned exe files. Kind of a pain...I now have my Sprite serial in a text file on my sdcard if I have to do it again. I believe there is a cab that will disable that signed nonsense so you could just run that one cab after a hard reset and then run the backup exe. If I find it I will post it. Still, in the end it worked.

Mine works well too, but if I do a clean rom install and then try to restore from self-contained sprite backup file (to the same rom version), my today plugin are no longer on the today screen, or available as options in the today item setup list.

I haven't figured out how to bring them back - which has made the whole sprite backup/restore thing pointless.

From that standpoint, for me at least, it's not a perfect backup - not like Acronis, anyway, where it does it bit-by-bit.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.5(Microsoft Windows; PPC; Opera Mobi/16643; U; en) HTC_Touch_Pro2)

I have been using Sprite since it first came out and have always had real good luck with it.
I backup my TP2 about every day because I am always tweaking something.

Has anyone tried Sprite on WM 6.5.1,
I know the latest Sprite 6.55 worked on 6.5.0, but its not working for me on WM 6.5.1.

Just noticing this problem so wondering what everyone else is seeing.

Re: Best software for a 'real' backup

I use Sunnysoft Backup Manager 4.0 personally.

I tried Sprite and SPB back when I had my mogul and I had so many issues with them I tried Sunnysoft. Sunnysoft was the only 1 I could ever get working to save all my data.

I upgraded to 4.0 just before getting my TP2. All I had to do was email them my new device ID so they could send me a new registry key for the App.

So far to date I am still on stock ROM and backups are complete. I will be flashing to a new ROM once I am not the primary oncall for my job. Would hate to possibly brick my phone during my oncall rotation.

Re: Best software for a 'real' backup

I use SPB back up and uncheck the following to prevent freeze. I also turn wireless off just incase I get a text or call during backup/restore.

Menu>Options
Stop processes before backup

What I like about SPB is that when I need to restore from a hard reset, I can just run the backup file without having to reinstall SPB first. I believe Sprite doesn't work like this and you need to have it installed to run a back up. I don't know if that's still the case.

You can do the same with Sprite. It saves the backups to the storage card in an executable file that runs without Sprite being installed.

I do a complete backup before installing just about anything, that way installing something new breaks something I just do a hard reset and then restore from my backup.

What do you do when application Today plug-ins are not showing up after a restore? I have both SBP time and Flexmail, and after a HR and restore, the programs work, but I cannot get the plugins to show up. They're simply not in the item list on the today setup screen. Any fixes?

[edited] I'm using Sprite.

I've never had this problem but I switched from using Sprite to SPB BU a long time ago (I own both)

When I do restores from SPB, the system comes back identical in every way.
