Re: Best software for a 'real' backup

I use Sunnysoft Backup Manager 4.0 personally.

I tried Sprite and SPB back when I had my mogul and I had so many issues with them I tried Sunnysoft. Sunnysoft was the only 1 I could ever get working to save all my data.

I upgraded to 4.0 just before getting my TP2. All I had to do was email them my new device ID so they could send me a new registry key for the App.

So far to date I am still on stock ROM and backups are complete. I will be flashing to a new ROM once I am not the primary oncall for my job. Would hate to possibly brick my phone during my oncall rotation.

I use SPB back up and uncheck the following to prevent freeze. I also turn wireless off just incase I get a text or call during backup/restore.

Menu>Options
Stop processes before backup

What I like about SPB is that when I need to restore from a hard reset, I can just run the backup file without having to reinstall SPB first. I believe Sprite doesn't work like this and you need to have it installed to run a back up. I don't know if that's still the case.

You can do the same with Sprite. It saves the backups to the storage card in an executable file that runs without Sprite being installed.

I do a complete backup before installing just about anything, that way installing something new breaks something I just do a hard reset and then restore from my backup.

What do you do when application Today plug-ins are not showing up after a restore? I have both SBP time and Flexmail, and after a HR and restore, the programs work, but I cannot get the plugins to show up. They're simply not in the item list on the today setup screen. Any fixes?

[edited] I'm using Sprite.

I've never had this problem but I switched from using Sprite to SPB BU a long time ago (I own both)

When I do restores from SPB, the system comes back identical in every way.
