Will not connect to PC anymore
I have a Sprint Touch Pro 2. It has connected to both ActiveSync and WMDC in the past on an XP machine and a Vista machine.
Now, however, when I connect it to the computer (Vista 32-bit) with WMDC with a USB cable, I get nothing but the charging indicator. I am no longer prompted whether I want to connect using ActiveSync or as drive access. (I've confirmed that the setting is set to ask me my preference on that). I have also confirmed that the connections setting to connect via USB to the PC is checked. When I disconnect the USB cable, the charge light goes away. When I connect it again, the charge light comes back. I have tested 4 different USB cables on 3 different PC's. Same result. After trying everything that I can think of, I did a HARD reset. The first thing that I did after the restart of the hard reset was plug it into the computer. Nothing. I only get the charging indicator. Any ideas? |
Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
Silly question, but did you hook up to an exchange server?
|
Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
I actually had this same problem with my TP1, but it was fixed after a hard reset. Not sure what the cause is.

Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
I do sync to exchange, but after the hard reset, I did NOT set the exchange server sync up first. I just plugged it in.
|
Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
idk then. I just know if youre on an exchange you have to deactivate it before you can active sync

Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
I had the same problem with a TP1 and XP Pro 64. I tried everything, or so I thought. I ultimately rebooted the PC and this solved the problem.
I previously had the same issue and reinstalled ActiveSync on the PC, which solved the problem. Hope this helps. |
Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
I have had this with all my phones at 1 time or another. A restart of my PC always fixed it.

Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
I have this problem too every once in a while, and I find that doing a soft reset of the phone usually fixes things.

Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
do you guys use tethering?? Ive noticed this after I use tethering. I have to boot up the tethering app and manually disconnect it . Works afterwords.

Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
I have this same problem. I have hard reset my phone, flashed a new ROM, flashed a stock ROM, rebooted my computer, rebooted my phone, messed with active sync settings, tried 2 different WM phones, tried 2 different cables (both phones and both cables work on another computer). Nothing works. Any ideas? I cannot sync ANY of my WM phones with my computer.

Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
Argh! I'm having the same problem with my Touch Pro 2, and it started yesterday. All of a sudden, I just can't sync anymore. This is very frustrating because I want to HardSPL and change ROM!

Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
go to settings>connections>usb to pc>uncheck the box under activesync which allows for faster data transfer
|
Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
What worked for me was taking out the micro sd card.

Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
You might also look in your active sync under options and make sure you have only 1 windows pc and not two or it might be confusing active sync. One of those two things should do it. The other being taking out the micro sd card.

Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
I got mine to connect now (had to plug my usb cable into a diferent plug on my computer), but it will not sync. It shows up in WMDC and says syncing, but there is no progress. Any ideas?

2.) On your PC open up the Device Manager, Action -> Add legacy Hardware -> Next -> Manually Install from list -> Portable Devices ->Standard Windows Mobile Devices -> Windows Mobile Device This worked for me when I had this problem. Hope it helps. |
Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
Idk if this will clear up any of the problems in this thread, but if any of you have recently installed a software internet firewall on the PC might want to try totally closing out of the firewall software (or if Windows firewall - heaven forbid - disable it) and try from there. I've had one instance where a hard reset did the job on one of my PPC phones a couple years ago, so that certainly could help, but try the firewall thing first, if applicable, since it's a lot easier than nuking your phone.
Of course for the fellow who got the same results on his XP and Vista box, one begins to wonder, unless he installed fireware software on both machines OR, since he's running Exchange, he may be also running a Windows Domain, in which case he may also wish to check his Group Policy settings for either of those boxes if they are enrolled in that domain. Also check patches and hotfixes on the DC, as any new updates may have altered the GP schema ever so. Microsoft likes to keep those support call$ coming. |
Re: Will not connect to PC anymore
I have resolved my problem and resolved it on every PC that I own (2 Windows 7 and 1 Vista). I believe that this may have been related to a Microsoft security update, though I have no proof of that. It is just a hunch. Here is what you can do to fix it:
1) Remove Windows Mobile Device Center. 2) Reboot. 3) Go into Device Manager and remove any devices that have errors and remove any devices remove any devices in the mobile device category. 4) Reboot. 5) Reinstall Windows Mobile Device Center with the phone disconnected from the PC. 6) After installing Windows Mobile Device Center, go into the Device Manager. 7) You need to add a manual device. If that option isn't in the menus right click on any device and say Scan for Hardware changes. 8 ) When it completes, go to the Action menu and select Add Legacy Hardware. 9) Select the option to install manually. 10) Scroll down and select Portable Devices. 11) Scroll down to Standard Windows Mobile Device and select it. 12) Let Device Manager add the device and search for updated drivers. At this point, the Standard Windows Mobile Device will probably be added to the device manager, with a problem flag that it isn't installed correctly. That is fine. NOW, plug your Touch Pro 2 into your computer. It should detect it at this point and add the appropriate devices. When it is complete, you can remove the problem Standard Windows Mobile Device from the Device Manager. |
