The htc tp2 likes/dislikes/issues [sprint]

These are just somethings i like and dont like about the phone.....in general i like the phone...i have some things i dont like about it, and i have some issues.....i know things i dont like can be fixed by modifying my phone and such, I have been looking into this off and on for 2 weeks now. I will get to playing around with my phone, some day. feel free to add what you want or comment.....this might help some people looking to buy this phone or not....

Like
  • notifications page (shows all at once)
  • facebook sync to contacts
  • keyboard easy to use, nice lighting, good short cuts
  • comparably fast
  • easy to set up and use wifi
  • the symbols page
  • the keyboard has t9 (because I'm a bad speller)
  • speaker phone (auto on turn over)
  • the 2 microphones to block out background noise (though I havn’t tested)
  • lighted keyboard
  • nice graphics (though sometimes slow to focus)
  • auto focus on camra
don’t
  • websites don’t work as expected (everything is still in mobile view)
  • press power button when texting
  • hard to txt and hold phone when charging
  • gps tells u to exit when u hit the exit sign (when its to late)
  • no detailed battery page (% and time left)
  • also getting a lot of crash errors for programs (not phone crashing)
  • some programs require wifi to be off instead of just pausing or switching to that connection
  • when viewing a messaging and press the call button it takes u to the call screen instead of calling that person
  • when typing and pressing space more than once it creates a .
  • no ctrl button for easy coping
  • cannot highlight stuff to copy easy
  • links in sms don’t always allow u to click
  • phone number on the web don’t allow u to call, any 10 digits number should be highlighted and able to be called (was on the vogue/touch)
  • fm isn’t installed on factory settings
  • the different sms screens (I love the look of the gray one, but the plain one works better, since I live on the border of a time zone….the sent is the time of the phone, and the received is the time of the tower, making them out of order, the plain txt shows them as the order they were received)
  • no translator to write free handed
  • when adding a contact entrances such as b-day and anniversary aren’t "none" by default

  • unsure about. the stylist location, and I wish it was magnetic

issues
  • lot of crashing errors
  • cabs I dl don’t work
  • when talking on the phone and the sensor turns on(turning the screen off) it defaults back to the home page ... when backlight turns back on, when I’m still in a call.... (E.g. when calling a 1-800 # and it says press 1, I have to press my talk button because it’s on the home page, then I press keypad, and then one, I have to repeat this process every time I need to enter a number)
  • in notifications, when hitting dismiss all doesn’t always work

was there something you needed help with...what is this post about or are you just listing your like and dislikes. If that's the case sometime its better to just write up a whole review on the topic.

you can change mobile view for websites in settings.their is a cab where it wont allow power button to work while keyboard open(personally i got use to not hitting coming from tp1) 10 dogit numbers should work, mines does.also, their is cab to delete the "gray sms"(manilla sms) you just have to search a little bit.look over at touch pro 2 tweeks and hack on the stickies should help alot

Re: The htc tp2 likes/dislikes/issues [sprint]

I liked the "like" list for the most part, but don't have many of those issues/problems on the dislike.

One thing I do dislike (entirely software) is that with my old TP, if I checked an incoming SMS while the notification tone was going off, it would cut it off. Not so any more. Even if I check/read it, the entire tone plays (had to shorten it, being 30 seconds long was insanely annoying after a while).

4. Be polite and treat fellow members with respect.

No Flaming anyone, we are all friends. This includes starting threads about a person or an issue. If there is an issue with something, it belongs in PMs, NOT in the public forum. Do not call out people in the forums, this belongs in PMs. If you have an issue with someone, PM a staff member. Unless addressing a matter to a Moderator or Admin do not post a PM received from someone in the forums.
1. Do the right thing.

Do not do anything that would get PPCGeeks in trouble such as posting copyrighted material. Although we may not agree with every takedown notice we receive we have to abide by the The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998.

13. VIP's

VIP status is something a user has achieved through post count or reputation. As a VIP you are still expected to uphold yourself in the same manner as a regular user. With this status comes more privileges but these privlages and status can be taken away should you do something to warrant the lost of your status/privileges. As a VIP we expect you to serve as a role model and to help and assist your fellow ppcgeek members.
14. Stay on topic and post in the correct forums.

As large as the forum is, it is very helpful to the staff and your fellow members if you post in the correct forum. As threads become off topic it makes it hard for your fellow members to find the information he/she is searching for so be respectful and keep it on topic. If the thread continues to stay off topic a moderator may choose at there discretion to close the thread without warning. All new threads that are created and posted will be moved to the appropriate section by a staff member.

Yeah, I noticed that subsequent to my post and felt kinda bad. Perhaps that's the culprit.

Still gives no excuse for that sort of down talk or negativity. Sometimes ppl need to be put in their place and it sure as hell seems that it more prominent then ever here at ppc geeks.

But if you guys are with it, let it be known

PS Josh I did that not only for u but for others who ask q's and get shined. not down w/ it bro. it happens here and there, but trust, u should thank me.

Besides all the rules you have broken in a single post, would you care to explain what you mean by this?

I guess I and a few others (as is clear by a multitude of other posts) are just sick of some of these mods impeding on the free flow of ideas and expression for which such forums exist.
Would you like a refresher on what happens when you disrespect other members like you just did? I am appalled at the negativity you conveyed in a single post.

I understand sometimes we all have bad days. I have them too. But I try not to let them affect my interactions with others. 90/10 rule.

I apologize if I came off a bit harsh, however many of you know I have a low tolerance for disrespect. There is no reason to treat others any worse than you would treat yourself.

Hopefully everyone can have a better day today, agreed?

I personally have yet to find something I dislike about the phone but many things I like about it more than the tp. The biggest being that you can backup contacts to the sim card so that after a hard reset they restore themselves. Just one less step needed after flashing a new rom and an added backup.

The SMS is the worst of the lot. I'm also having big lags on the dialer screen when answering a call. It feels very slow. I've seen the cleanup thread, so I'm going to hard reset and check that out.

This is the first winmo phone, so I'm still learning. That being said, I see an option for freehand writing. Just use the soft keyboard menu -> Other Input Methods -> Trasnsciber

Now I do have a quandry myself. From the photo album, I can't find a way to bluetooth a picture. Anyone have a fix? Or at least know where on the phone those pics are stored?

I also have an *** dial problem. Phone will come alive in my pocket for calls and texts. Any simple ways to lock?

I've actally taken touch flo off. As much as I like the flash I like the speed of the base stuff better. I saw something called spb, looks interesting, might have to try that out.

Re: The htc tp2 likes/dislikes/issues [sprint]

I'd have to say that I love almost everything about the phone with two big exceptions.

-The proximity sensor is all kinds of retarded. I love that it turns off when against my face and back on when I pull it away from my face so I can press buttons, but there is no way to disable it on a per instance basis. It still functions and flips the screen on and off or hangs up on people with BT. Two things would solve this issue, pressing the power button should turn off the screen and disable the proximity sensor for THAT call and it should be disabled when connected via BT.

-The second issue is also a known issue and that's the inability to hangup via BT. It's annoying and there is quite a bit of delay when someone else hangs up before the call finally disconnects.

make sure you dont have many programs running in the backround. set "x button to close" in settings. i use the cleanRAM1.8 to free up space. and definitly make sure that the apps are made for the phone. ( sorry, just making sure, no offense)

Quote:

in touchflo: in sms tab hit message, take you to conversation screen, then slide to the contact card then hit call. maybe not as easy as hit green button but its finger friendly.

search for the rhodium kb controller, and you can map any button to anything you want it to be as in..ctrl

Re: The htc tp2 likes/dislikes/issues [sprint]

I'm beginning to miss my TP1.

I don't know if it's my phone that's giving me trouble (please let me know if you guys are experiencing this as well), but here are the cons I'm experiencing:

CONS:

1. Clock and Battery can't coexist together on taskbar (if you choose to display clock on taskbar at all times... you loose the battery status icon).

2. Taskbar/Notifications; u can't click on any of the icons and get actual information. Clicking the taskbar just takes u to the "notifications" screen. The notification screen is a nice feature, but its only good for letting u know u have a new text/voicemail/etc. It doesn't let u check the status of your battery, network, etc.

3. Goes back to "home screen" whenever screen "sleeps"/goes on standby; If you're surfing the net on Opera... or running a program like Skype... once the screen goes off/standby and you wait a minute or so to turn it back on, it resumes back on the home screen (whatever you were working on is closed/hidden/etc.

4. Opera browser doesn't show up on Quick Menu (tab that shows running programs); meaning you have to relaunch the web all over again. Or you can open up the keyboard and push the "internet" button to resume. Both options are VERY inconvinient.

5. Battery is about the same as TP1; from what others were saying, I expected it to last longer. You have to recharge daily.

That's all I can think of at the moment. If you guys know how to correct these problems, please fill me in. Cuz it's really botherinng me.

Love it .. it should have been the tp1 .. my tp1 was crazy

I wish it has the Straight Talk Conference Apps that they marketed and was a huge selling point.. I think T-mobile users have it ... that sucks .. but at least we got a headphone jack.

Re: The htc tp2 likes/dislikes/issues [sprint]

I love the TP2 - but my biggest beef is, that the Sprint Navigator is not tied into contacts.

Used to be, you could select "Drive To" from the Contact Details screen - there's no such option now. The only thing showing is to map it, using Bing.

Even from inside the Navigator there's no way to get directions to someone in my contacts. I can't copy & paste the address either.

Major Faux Pas!!!

i have found a few ways to fix this, first in setting there is a check box that says close all applications when not in use or something like that, if you uncheck this it works) (remember bad on battery so remember to close things)
second thing i have noticed is its in a different tab, so if you open the internet and search anything (i normally just press a letter and search), and you will now see 2 tabs, close the one your in and open the other.....thats my fix on this issue ATM
