Am I to understand that the folks who are making unlicensed versions of WinMo and TF3D available via their unlocker are licensing that same unlocker? Is that not a tad bit hypocritical?

Lol I was just thinking the same thing now that I understand what the licensing thing is all about. Does it bother them that much to think someone else may make money off of it? I mean to be honest, I'm sure anyone with any know how of servers could probably just redirect the program to ping a dead server and allow for unlimited unlocks anyway. No offense to olinex, but if Microsoft, Apple and billion dollar conglomerates can't build DRM that won't be broken in 5 minutes I highly doubt they can, despite the pretty chunk of change they've amassed with their projects.

Basically the problem is the Business aspect of the whole deal. I sell unlock codes, and i understand the potential of capital gain here. The Hspl is free and everyone know's it. The simunlock on the other hand is very handy, its only available to people that made prior donations,or the ones willing to pay the 20 dollarst a pop. And at 20 a pop, i wouldnt want people to be able to use them multiple times, u get two chances, then you have to pay like everyone else. Well why not just make a seperate package available on the Elite Team Webpage and whom ever is interested in a simunlock they can go ahead and purchase it.This way there is no confusion, No frustration. And the Free HSPL remains free, and everyone is appreciative of all the hard work that goes into preparing the HSPL......
RUN WITH IT>.......................

I suggested basically the same thing..If the real issue is with the sim unlocker then why hold up the release of the HSPL ?? I understand the desire to retain some control over your hard work where others are going to be trying to unlock numbers of phones with SIM unlocker but the HSPL should not be such a big deal if it is going to be free , At least this way we could begin flashing some of these roms out here...

I think the elite team is creating a mess if they attempt to control access to the unlocker(s). If this phone is truely going to be popular then the demand will be too great to contain. There will be a hacker that will view this as a challenge and hack it. I think the elite team is watching us argue and laughing. That is probably whats taking so long. It is really sad. I've been a lurker here for a long time and never seen such arguing and insults.

Can't we all just get along?

Has anyone done that to the GSM version? Because it's certainly more popular than the CDMA version, yet they've managed to control access to the unlocker

I have seen several people on ebay and craigslist selling unlocked CDMA and GSM phones in the states, and toting that they are unlocked. And charging more for them. Check craigslist every day for a week in any major city and you will see at least one person offering to unlock a phone or jailbreak an iPhone or iPod Touch. And believe me, they aren't doing it for free.

As a former developer, I understand the Elite Team's thinking. And if you try to as well, I promise you it will make sense. They are putting a lot of effort and time into writing us an unlocker and offering it for free. Why in the hell would they want anyone else selling their hard work to make money? Be honest, if it was you, you wouldn't.

AC had the same issue last year with S2U2. Some web sites were selling packages of software as "compilations" which were in essence nothing but a collection of free WinMo apps. What did AC do? He pulled his software off his site and quit developing it for what I remember was a little over a month. Because he was offering a free product that someone else was selling for profit. Sounds familiar, doesn't it.

C'mon people, relax. It doesn't matter if cmonex and the Elite Team want to license it just for the fact that they can, because it is there hard work. If that's what they want to do, you have two choices:

1. Thank them, use it, and move along your merry way.

or

2. Forget them, don't use it, and move along your merry way.

The simple fact is that they have the right to do what they want because the blood, sweat and tears are theirs. Therefore, all the choices regarding it are theirs, as well.

Am I saying that they are excused for promising, or even hinting at a date, and failing to achieve anything short of success? No, but I am also the first to say "oh well" and move on to the next thread. Because ultimately I know they have lives, they have families, they have jobs, and they are doing this out of the kindness of their hearts (ok, maybe a little bit of bragging rights, too). And I also know that they will come through for us when they can. They always have in the past and I am all about basing my opinion on experience.

In any case, everyone just needs to settle down and be grateful that someone is working on an unlocker at all. Because all the whining, crying, yelling, quitting and everything else negative is going to do nothing positive for our community. And for me, that's why I am here. The ability to learn, the ability to grow, and the community that we have.

very well said.

i have said it... why would you go out of your way to help someone that only complains and cries.

i dont understand how you guys think this will get get the unlocker faster.

1) HardSPL: free for personal use, not free for commercial use (so that's not a donation), but as a personal user you can of course send a donation if you want to thank us.
2) SIM unlocker: not free except for contributing members which doesn't mean financial contribution (though that's fine too).
