Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
So after deciding to not give a crap about the unlocker and just wait for the official 6.5 release, I concocted (sp?) a support request to try to get info....it didn't go so well. And knowing all the effort Sprint is putting into customer retention I was really suprised at their response.
Can't blame me for giving it a shot...:D ----ORIGINAL SUPPORT REQUEST---- Original Message Follows: ------------------------ ================================================== ====================== Name: [omitted} Form: Ask A Question Learn OR Feedback and Suggestions - Learn Topic: Equipment Contact Number: [omitted] ================================================== ====================== Original Question: What is the release date for the Touch Pro2's Windows Mobile 6.5 update? Question: I bought the new Touch Pro2 about 3 weeks ago. I bought it knowing that the Windows Mobile 6.5 update was coming. According to the store I bought it at it was only a couple of weeks away. Well, now I'm approaching the end of my 30-day return period and no 6.5. I'm not interested in keeping this phone, or my Sprint service for that matter, if I don't have 6.5 by the end of the initial 30-days. I can just go to Verizon...they have the phone for $199 and it already has Windows Mobile 6.5. ================================================== ====================== Here's what the responded with: ------SPRINT'S OFFICIAL RESPONSE---------- Dear [omitted], Thank you for contacting Sprint to return the phone. I understand that you want to update your HTC Touch pro 2 phone to windows 6.5. as of now we do not have any update about window 6.5 and I understand that you do not want to keep your current phone without window 6.5. Please note that only the person whose name appears on the purchasing credit card can return the item to the store. For your convenience, you may also return or exchange your device by mail. Please call 866-789-8292 to initiate the return process during: Monday - Friday from 8 AM - 11 PM EST You will be asked to provide your e-mail address and account number to the representative who will send you the required forms and instructions by e-mail. Thank you again for contacting Sprint. Sincerely, Brian A. Sprint ================================================== ==== That was pretty much a "f*$k off!". |
Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
I would've replied with the same thing. Completely unrealistic. Go to Verizon then.
And why is this in the Upgrades forum? You can't read subtitles? |
Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
Moved to the Touch Pro2 forum.

Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
i got one of their courtesy follow up calls a few days ago. they asked me how i liked the device, verified billing info and then tried to sell me the insurance plan. anyway, the rep made a point of telling me one of the cool features of the phone was that it was upgradable to 6.5. he said he was told it would come by the end of october, but since october was nearly over it might not be out until november. he was basically reading from a script so i dont think he was making this up. that doesnt mean it is true, just that at one point in time sprint had a plan to release by the end of october.

Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
Here's a news flash for you....
The people you are talking to have no information on the 6.5 upgrade road-map for Sprint. All they can say is sorry & offer you the option to return the device. Once the unlocker is released it will be moot. I don't understand the level of impatience on the forums. |
Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
the response was pretty good, because if it was me, i would of told you to kick rocks.....

Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
Why is Sprint so tight?
The TP2 Tilt and Pure is already loaded in WM6.5. Whats up Sprint? One thing I didnt like about the WM6.5 is the jagged icon that row one up and one down on the Today screen. I thought we read straight. |
Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
Do you really seriously think SPRINT makes these upgrades? Honestly look at the box and see who manufacture's the device, It is Htc, Do not blame Sprint as they only provide service not manufacture nor build Upgrades, The best they can do is tell Htc to hurry up, You should be contacting Htc, Sprint does not let employee's know of anything as far as updates until it is released. If you want that visit Htc.com/support

LOL. How do you know whether or not 'they' have any information on the update? |
Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
I work for a major carrier & I know how the system works. The agents he is speaking to are the last to find out information like this. Not to mention (contrary to popular belief) the 6.5 update is the last of their concerns. There are so many things ahead of updating the OS on a working phone, not to mention the release of other devices with 6.5 for the sole purpose of selling that particular feature.
If you want updates on 6.5 releases you need to be talking with the marketing folks, not the front-line agents & "retention specialists". The problem is, they don't have any reason to speak with us. 95% of the time when someone gets a obscure piece of information it's just BS so the agent can get the customer off his phone so it doesn't run up his CAHT (Call Average Handle Time). He will gladly take the hit on his FCR/FTR (first Call Resolution/First Time Resolution) if you decide to call back to ask someone else, who in turn will read the notes & go "OMG, one of THOSE ppl" lol and tell you what the last agent did (if hey are smart enough to pull up the history). |
Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
Surprisingly, I am relatively happy with the overall performance of the stock rom. I don't know if I have low expectations because of the rock the TP1 was before flashing and fixing, or if the TP2 has honestly worked out most of the kinks the TP1 had.

100% agreement with this post. The people you are talking to have no idea on this kind of stuff, and not to mention, who cares about an official release? Between ppcg, ep/td and xda, why in gods name would you need to wait on an official release? By the time the official release comes out anyway, the custom versions will be months ahead. |

You are exactly correct in that line of thinking! I wouldn't mind if Sprint was like here have fun. But I know our Chefs here will cook us up some amazing Roms. |
Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
not to mention the fact that even the official 6.5 upgrades will probably be LEAKED b4 the carriers even make them available

Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
Look at the latest MR for the TP. It didn't have anything that we didn't already get our hands on months in advance. Relying on sprint for the latest 6.5 update is senseless. Just hang in there for the custom roms. They will come sooner, and more than likely be just as good if not better.

like the previous said above, cares about the stock 6.5 rom. If your actually posting on this site im sure you know about custom/modded roms. So why are you going to sprint? When you kno how uptight they are bout things like this.
|
Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
I come from the touch pro and only installed cabs. I never ran a modded ROM. I would like to try it on this phone but I would first like to see what the stock rom with windows 6.5 does on this phone. Just cuz you are wondering about the release date doesn't mean we shouldn't be in this community. I too started a chat session with a rep and she was really nice. She told me she checked the website, then she told me she would ask her manager, then she told me she had no info for me. Then I said that that sucked and that I was a bit disapointed and she asked me to hold while she looked somewhere else... She came back with nothing. I trully believe that there are SOME people that know, however MOST are like us... just wondering when.

Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
I love it when customers give ultimatums to employees that have no control over the situation. Didn't your mother ever tell you that you will catch more bees with honey than with vinegar? I can't tell you how many situations that thought process has gotten me what I wanted, including my replacing my TP with the TP2.

Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
As the Op states...I concocted an email. It was purely to try to elicit information from them.
Jeez...people really see what they want to these days on PPCG. |
Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
I got a callback from someone with executive services today (had an issues with my TP1 that wasn't getting resolved).
She mentioned I should be happy with the TP2, it's what she had. So I asked "Oh cool, any news on Windows 6.5?" she said no idea right now. I didn't push it :) |

"As per your request, your account has been closed." If you wanted to "concoct and email" that was aimed at getting them to tell you the release date, you surely didn't do a very good job. Your email clearly stated that you would leave Sprint if they didn't actually release 6.5 according to your schedule. You didn't even include an announcement of a release date in your demands. |
Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
Sprint is waiting for us to unlock the phone so we can beta test 6.5 for them. Once we figure out everything thats wrong, they'll tweak and release their own.

i called my buddy who works in software development for sprint... he says nov 30 they are going to drop it. im just waiting for this beautiful unlocker so i can make my own rom :)

Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
I actually like this 6.1 rom, but I really miss the kinetic scrolling in 6.5. If I have to wait until 11/30 for 6.5, I'll definitely go to a custom rom first.
|
Re: Sprint just won't budge on a 6.5 release date.
I personally have given up on the unlocker, i'm waiting for the 6.5 release from HTC/Sprint. I'm good with the stock rom currently on the TP2. Come on 6.5!
