Re: Use GPS in Airplane Mode?
I just turned on airplane mode, and ran GPS location. after almost 20 seconds, no coordinates appeared, so I assumed it didn't work, but a few seconds later, the program showed my coordinates.
Also, a few weeks ago I was on a cruise, and although Verizon has cruise ship services (I got a text on my phone), I turned off my data, and ran TrackMe in offline mode. It did track parts of my location, until I was out of range for gps. In any case, try it. it works fine. Oh, I also tried loading google maps out at sea so it can pick up the gps, but it errored (sp?) because it couldn't connect to data, so I guess it wouldn't load the coordinates either.

Re: Use GPS in Airplane Mode?
The agps story makes a lot of sense. That would explain why it worked better on a short puddle jumper when I left the phone on and it stayed in and out of signal but got very intermittent signal on a cross country flight at a higher elevation with no signal most of the way. Was kind of cool to see the flight paths and plane speed. Now I just need to get a map program with very zoomed out satellite images to track me like google but that doesn't need a data program. Thanks again everyone.

Re: Use GPS in Airplane Mode?
This would be helpful in case you have to let the pilots know they over flew the airport by 150miles

Re: Use GPS in Airplane Mode?
I have done this sort of things before.
Sometimes it work and sometimes doesnt. Usually when you are in flight you will lost your tracking. Maybe the plane is flying too fast. I will work if you got a Bluetooth GPS with built in data ROM. Then load the ROM to Google Earth and it will plot it. But you cant see it real time obviously. |

Re: Use GPS in Airplane Mode?
Ok just tried and GARMIN AND IGO8 both connect to satellites. Garmin only got 4 before I quit the program and IGO8 had 8... All I did was put it in airplane mode and started garmin first. After that connected, quit that, and started igo8 they both work.

Re: Use GPS in Airplane Mode?
It work for me if you get a BT GPS receiver with data memory in it.
Sit next to the window. You dont have to hold it to the window. Just put in your pocket and lean near the window. When you get home, load it to your PC and use Google Earth and it will plot the path. |
