[TUT] How to offically unlock verizon tp2 sim for gsm use!! [TUT]

Wirelessly posted (AdrianH85(TP2): Opera/9.5(Microsoft Windows; PPC; Opera Mobi/16643; U; en) HTC_Touch_Pro2_T7379)

first off this is my first guide to do anything so excuse my format! thanks goes to Cozboogie for pulling the information from the now archived flame war going on inside the thread for the touch pro 2 hspl! i have posted this info before but it was pulled off because of everyone on the tp2 hspl thread was going off subject and it was closed!!!

if u have verizon and call 1(800)-711-8300 and hit option 2

and tell them that u need ur sim unlocked because u are going abroad

and u are not using vodaphone, they will give u the unlock code for ur phone!!

mine was a 8-digit unlock code number and it was for free with no hassle no questions ask 5 min call!!

all u need to do on ur end is goto Security and enter the code they give u! u can find Security these two ways

1. if u have tf3d on tap start>settings> All setting(soft key)> personal> Security

2. with tf3d off tap start>settings>personal>Security!!

All i did was enter the 8 digit code and it said sim unlocked so it sounds like its just locked in the

regitory based on the fact i did it via the software with no service inside the pentagon!!

the verizon verison will work on tmoblie(well voice and sms) i did try data but i dont have the data dail string for tmoblie (verizon and sprint is #777)

to activate u just sim unlock first then goto settings>commmanager> phone settings> network

then change ur mode of operation to gsm/umts only then tap find network!!

when i first put the sim into my phone i was able to get sms for the tmoblie card while still connected to the verizon network and my phone was till getting my verizon data sms and voice!! my phone was in the global mode of operation!! but when i changed to gsm only my phone picked up tmoblie and was able to make calls! will be doing more research to make data work

hope this helps someone\\:D/

Here is more research that is being done on this subject by isdnmatt

some research done here for at@t data settings

feel free to DONATE its appreciated, but not required
(Yeah I stole that from Juggalo_X)

I just saved u like $10 - 20 so it would help me get my next device if u donate like $2

add a dial up connection, use epc.tmobile.com as the number.

Just wondering if you/anyone might know the answer to this... I already sim unlocked my vzw tp2, if I flash a new rom when the hspl is released, does it stay unlocked or do I have to call vzw back? thanks ahead for any answers!

I believe "global mode" is CDMA and GSM whereas "GSM" turns off CDMA.

It will stay unlocked. A new ROM will not override the unlock.

Thx for the quick reply!! Good to know that I only have to deal with vzw once, rather than try to call them each time a new ROM is flashed...lol!

So you only have to enter the code one time? Not each time you have to use a GSM SIM card?

Sorry if that is a dumb question but I have only used a CDMA phone before.

yes u only need to do it once! u swapping ur sim is just like swapping ur memory card! as long as u have unlocked it, it should stay

not %100 sure based on the fact i cant test it but i assume it will stick even after a flash

gsm (Global System for Mobile communication)is the technology that at&t and tmoblie and telus(they also have cdma) use ie htc g1, iphone!! and i think global mode is so ur data will work overseas via verizon/vodafone not sure but will do some research and find out more on global mode

edit: found better answer =D>

By default, your device operates in Global mode. With a SIM card installed, Global mode
allows your device to seamlessly switch from a CDMA network to a GSM network when you
are traveling in another country and there is no CDMA service available in your location.

it's already unlocked on my sprint...

Re: how to offically unlock verizon tp2 sim for gsm use

of course it's already unlocked on your sprint. as a matter of fact it's unlocked on everyone's sprint, however...................sprint custom ordered all their phones that way and to trick us they custom ordered them with a radio that blocks ALL united states gsm providers out there. for those who have a sprint touch pro2 your s.o.l. until the great cmonex finishes the sim unlocker for the sprint touch pro2. you should all donate to her as she has made and assisted with many unlockers and other excetera things.

Re: how to offically unlock verizon tp2 sim for gsm use

If anyone is worried about their SIM relocking for whatever reason (I don't know why it would relock), make a note of the unlock codes you received from Verizon (They e-mailed them to me). It will always unlock your phone. It"s not one-time use.

ca2l3vin 10-21-2009 05:33 AM

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.7 (WindowsMobile; PPC; Opera Mobi/35267; U; en; Presto/2.1.1))

Global Mode is indeed using both radios at one time for traveling abroad basically it an auto setting to look for both gsm and cdma in the area (for those that really travel and dont know which they have in an area) Example would be countries that have both or if you go to the virgin islands and dont know if they have either. it takes longer for the detection since it searches through both radios and can be a waste of battery. Its best if you know what you want to connect to to just choose the network.

ehh emmm... you go to walmart or meijer, buy a tmobile or at&t prepaid phone, take the chip from the phone you buy for like 25 bucks and activate and pop it in your touch pro2

Thanks for the post Adrianh85. Although it was a fairly easy process, the VZW Rep was completely clueless. She was telling me to going in to menu options that weren't there or that were in a completely different place. Thankfully I am fully informed of my phone thanks to this great forum. If you expect VZW to tell you exactly how to do it, then don't be surprised when you are acutally telling them the correct menus to go into. Otherwise a completely free and easy process.

I mean't to say Global support not a VZW Rep. I called the number in the OP. Yes they do not know sh!t. Apparently even some of the Global Support staff as well. LOL... Will be thanking you shortly.

I'm confused. So you are saying that you are able to use a US Carrier SIM card on VZW TP2? I thought these phones were locked down to only use overseas carrier SIMs? Or is this an OVERSEAS SIM card you are using in your phone?

i used a maryland activated tmoblie sim card without global plan and it works fine!! there were reports of that being true in the sprint verison(400) but verizon has the (500) that might be one of the biggest hardware differences!!

Very interesting.

btw...what do you mean by version (400 vs 500)? Is that the SIM card version or a hardware version of some kind?

Thanks!

Verizon will only give you an unlock code once every 10 months per account, so they probably wouldn't give it to you every time anyway.

sprint has the 400 hardware and verizon and telus have the 500. will do more research to find out the difference in hardwares!!

edit i did some more research and found this and from what i see the only difference in hardware between the verizon and sprint is verizon`s bluetooth 2.1 vs sprints` 2.0 and that it says that the verizon verizon only allows u to access half the memory!!

Well it took about 20 minutes for them to give me the unlock code. But it seems that they had it on hand. So I am wondering if the code is the same code for all of us. Unfortunately they didn't email me the code like they did for other users. But I do know that my code started with a 170.

the unlock code is based off ur meid or imei! i assume its the imei because thats used by gsm providers to issue unlock codes!

I dont think there is a differencei n hardware, the the radio

Sprint and USC support utms 900, VZW and Telus don't. it may be as simple as a radio flash.

I unlocked my sim from verizon but was also wondering what would happen if I switch from global model to gsm and always connect to at&t using my verizon sim card? Will verizon charge me for this or is this somehow against the tos?

Thanks, I am just curious but was afraid to connect to the att network without checking in with you guys first.

dont know where you got that from, they have full memory.

and they are quad pand gsm, im pretty sure they are the same chipset as the rhod500 so it might be as simple as a radio update to get the quadband for telus and USC users

once you unlock your vzw touch pro2 you are free to take any sim card that has service on it from tmobile, at&t and i think it even takes net10 and tracfone sims and when you switch to gsm mode you will use the sim card. When you switch to cdma or global mode you will mainly use verizon.

Re: how to offically unlock verizon tp2 sim for gsm use

thanks wolfordtw, that is what I understood about the other carriers sim card. What happens if I use the verizon sim card but select GSM only and the at&t carrier (better covereage in some areas I go)? Will this force my verizon phone to use at&t over vzw and will verizon care?
